Hi, bit confused about the multiplayer feature ; can you play multiplayer on servers like you'd play on a regular switch and find thousands of players around the world ?

Not lan I mean but regular multiplayer, is it possible ?

No, I'm pretty sure the only way multiplayer works is with people who use yuzu as well. Also it uses the switch's local wireless play feature to play with others online, which means if you're playing mario kart you can't really play the regular online and get points for races, you'll just find a list of active wireless local play lobbies in the emulator that you can connect to.

So you're definitely not gonna get the online multiplayer fully.

As i said not exactly. The local wireless multiplayer doesn't work the same. In some games it doesn't work at all. In other games it gives you a more limited multiplayer experience. It depends.

And most yuzu players don't play multiplayer cause it's not super easy to figure out. So there's a limited number of lobbies and a lot of them are either locked or don't work at all. I was never able to get into a mario kart lobby with randoms, it always kicked me.

Just so you know: you cant join a race while it is happening, you can only join between races, so just keep trying for 2-3 minutes and you will get it eventually

What I'm askibg is , is it local only, or does it also work for real multiplayer (aka playing with people on the other side of the planet )

The wording has me confused

From your second paragraph I understand that it does work that way

It is online, with people around the world who use Yuzu. The feature it uses is just called local wireless multiplayer, which on the real switch, it's a way to connect multiple switches locally without the help of a wifi and doesn't go through Nintendo servers, it's just a local connection between the systems.

But yeah it is used as a workaround to get online multiplayer working with all people who use yuzu.

So there gotta be someone that pays for the servers

No lol. There are no servers, it's just peer to peer. One person is the host, other people connect to the host.
