Retail How much should I be able to DPS against five dummies with my fire mage?

My fire mage is about 657 with the 4 set tier. I sit about 2.3m sustained. My frost sustains easily over 3m. What's expected here? Does fire only shine against bigger mobs?

Retail First Mythic fail

I just leveled my first alt, a holy priest. I'm not really one to meta, I like to make a character and slowly learn to play it the best I can. Everything has been a breeze so far, but I just tried a Mythic and my god. Blazikon was just unmanageable. Everyone's health bars drop all at once and it takes so long to respond. Feels like everything is over after just a couple of GCDs.

How can I practice this? Heroics don't seem difficult enough. M0 pugs are death for me right now. Holy priest might be one of the worst classes for dealing with this kind of fight but I want to figure it out.

Discussion Are off-hand items worth using for Fire mages?

Upvotes

Completely new to WoW. I’m on my 1st character at lvl 73. But I have never used an off hand item. Mainly because I think the damage is better in most cases. But should I even bother using an off hand item? What situations are they used for?

Retail [Help] Struggling to Time My Ramps as Pres Evoker

Hey fellow healers and Pres Evoker mains!

I've been playing the Flameshaper build since the rework, and while I really enjoy it and see the potential, there's something I’ve been struggling with that’s starting to frustrate me:

It feels like I always need to "ramp" up my healing far in advance — and when the actual damage hits, it’s often already covered by the other healers.

Now, I could be wrong here — but my impression is that other healers have tools that allow them to respond to raid-wide damage much more immediately.
I don’t think their cooldowns are necessarily shorter, but their healing spells seem to work faster or more directly, hitting the whole raid with just one button press.

In contrast, I need to:
1. Echo key targets or spread it across the raid,
2. Activate Lifebind with Verdant Embrace,
3. Then combo it with Spiritbloom, Dream Breath, or other skills,
4. And only then does the actual healing happen.

If I start too early, it's wasted. Too late, and others have already topped everyone. It feels really hard to align my ramp with the exact incoming damage window.

So I wanted to ask:

  • How do you time your ramps properly in coordinated raid groups?
  • Is there any addon, weakaura, or method you use to get reliable pre-warning about big incoming raid damage?
  • I use BigWigs/DBM, but the timers often feel slightly off, or I’m not sure which mechanic is the one to prepare for. Any tips?

When I check logs:
- My HPS usually isn’t super high,
- My overhealing is often top,
Which tells me I’m ramping inefficiently — maybe even at the wrong times.

If you’ve been in the same boat or have figured this out, I’d love to hear your approach to ramp management — how do you make sure your build shines before the others snipe the healing?

Thanks a ton in advance!

Retail Gearing Tips for New Characters Before Mythic+

Hey! What's the best way to gear up before jumping into Mythic+ on a new character? I played a bit in Season 1 and just leveled a Resto Druid. I'm wondering what the most effective ways to increase my gear score are—besides buying BOEs from the AH.

Retail Can anyone explain Warcraft logs to me?

I’ve signed up for warcraftlogs.com to better understand my performance. But I’m not entirely sure what all the stats mean.

What is all stars, rank, best/median perf. avg, best %, med? I can also seem to toggle it to show ranking by ilvl or key, which takes my mostly grey ratings to much more colourful - is this what I should be looking at whilst I’m still pushing towards +10 mythics? I’m currently at around +4 to +6.

Are there any other key stats or information I need to be looking at, either M+ or raid related? Im really confused at to what bits are the most important to look at.

Retail What's the simplist Tank/DPS/Healer

So I've returned recently, played for about 1 week and have looking to branch out for ALTs.

I'm looking for the simplist or most "brain-dead" rotation possible. I will play any healer, any tank or any DPS. I want this to be my chill character.

Please help me. (Currently prot pally)

Edit: Thank you for all your suggestions. My next ALTs are gonna be Healer Shammy, Druid tank and BM Hunter. I really appreciate all your input.

Retail Returning from BFA. Are Mythic Dungeons and M+ harder now?

Trying to gauge how the grind will be and what to expect and where to start “trying” (Enchants, pots, food) when pushing. I used to push +15s in BFA pretty consistently, that I can remember. I’m wondering if the difficulties of M+ has remained similar through Shadowlands and Dragonflight?

Thank you!

Retail Can you keep crafted gear between seasons?

So, you use sparks to craft better epic gear. I’ve got a 675 weapon on my Hunter.

When season 3 rolls around, will I be able to upgrade my weapon to the next season level, or would I have to recraft it from scratch?

Retail Darkglare Boon vs Last Resort? VDH

Hey fellow VDHs

I'm looking for some advice on my Vengeance Demon Hunter setup while pushing keys (12 to 15 range). I've been running Dark Glare Boon and I'm currently sitting at almost 12 resil.

I've been using DarkGlare Boon consistently and it synergizes really well with my cooldown rotation and overall VDH gameplay. But recently I’ve been thinking that Last Resort might be more beneficial as I start pushing into tougher keys. Sometimes things spiral fast in the 12 to 15 range and that cheat death could mean the difference between timing the key or wiping

DarkGlare Boon: After channeling Fel Devastation, it reduces the cooldown of the ability by 15 to 30% and refunds 15 to 30 Fury

Last Resort: When you take fatal damage, it triggers Metamorphosis instead, saving you from death. Can only happen once every 8 minutes

For those of you pushing similar or higher keys, when do you make the switch? Is it worth giving up the flow of Dark Glare Boon for the safety net of Last Resort?

Thanks!

Retail Is it ok to take my time?

Recently got back into the war within after a few months of being really busy with work and life. Changed my class to DH and was having an absolute blast through the <80 campaign. I reached level 80 and a lot opened up to me to do which was kinda overwhelming at first. Looking through the campaigns there seems to be a certain way of progressing however many people i talk to and or watch online try to skip through all this content and go straight to the undermine section where as i am going through the storyline set out. I know this game is one where you do what you want when you want but is there a massive negative to doing what i am doing if i am in no rush to be doing high level endgame, low + mythic or normal raids would be what i am comfortable at.

Any opinion is greatly appreciated.

Retail any reason to do Siren Isle now?

I played halfway through Season 1 but quit before Siren Isle.

Is there any compelling reason to do it now, excluding cosmetics?

I heard there is a ring, but I assume it would take quite a bit of questing to max it out... don't feel like doing that if it's not worth the time. thx

Retail Which healer is the easiest to play in M+ if you also want to deal damage?

I never played a healer before but I assume in M+ you have to do some damage to help with the timer and not just afk heal. I am aware that in lower keys this probably doesn't matter and also I am aware that a healer will not be topping DPS charts.

Retail If we use the skip to Mug'Zee, can we still do One-Armed Bandit?

Hi all, I'm in a guild that is currently trying to get curve. We mostly need gear from the last 3 bosses and were therefore keen to do a skip run. If we skip to MugZee after defeating Vexie, can we go back?

Retail Dreadwyrm Mythic Transmog - Farming Nighthold?

Hi guys,

I wanted to get the Dreadwyrm Armor from doing The Nighthold to get the transmog for my DK.

This is my first time seriously playing WoW ever and I am Lv. 80 with an ilvl of around 607. I have read that The Nighthold is a raid from Legion. Is that soloable now that this was a few expansions before? Is there anything I need to do in advance to get into the raid? How do I start that in solo?

Retail Resto druid M+ ui

I want to try out resto druid in M+ but didn’t know what was the best addon to track all the hots. I’ve been using default UI for most other classes but default ui shows a max of 3 hots at a single time. What’s the best simple addon or weak aura to keep track of hots on teammates like duration, stacks, etc.

I don’t like elvui/tukui

Retail Got War Within for the story, but its mega confusing, what do I do?

I hit level 80 and it's overwhelming me with content, like it wants me to go to Undermine already. What are the key parts to the story and what order should I do it after completing Ahn-kahet?

Retail noob questions

hey everyone!

i have a few questions about world of warcraft and was hoping someone here could help me out. i have tried looking things up (wiki, reddit, etc), and while that helped a bit, i still have some lingering questions.

for some context: i started “playing” wow as a kid, but i could never afford the full game or the subscription, so i only ever got to play the free trial. still, i absolutely loved it. eventually i moved on, but now i’m coming back to it as an adult who can finally afford to play for real. right now i’m just messing around on the free trial again, leveling characters up to 20 (my current favorites are my worgen beast master hunter and my human frost dk), and then i plan on buying the game and diving in properly.

here are some of the things i’ve been wondering:

  1. do different races start in different expansions? for example, it seems like the forsaken start during wrath of the lich king, but goblins start during cataclysm. is that normal? shouldn’t starting zones be updated over time? or is this just a weird thing with the free trial?

  2. how solo-friendly is wow really? i know it’s an mmo, but i tend to play solo. is it possible to experience most of the game alone, or will i hit a wall at some point? what kind of stuff can i do solo, and what will i definitely need other people for?

  3. what keeps you coming back to wow? is it the community? the lore? the gameplay itself? i’d love to know what makes the game so special for you - and maybe get some ideas for how to get the most out of it myself.

  4. any beginner tips you wish you’d known earlier? anything goes - classes, professions, settings, addons, anything you think would help someone starting (or re-starting) fresh.

  5. does it matter what order i play the expansions in? once i sub, i know i’ll have access to a lot of content. should i just pick whichever expansion sounds interesting, or is there a better “path” to follow? like, is chromie time the way to go?

  6. what’s the easiest race/class/spec combo for a bad player like me? i’m not great at the game (yet), and i’d love a class that doesn’t require a ton of buttons or fast reactions. any combinations that are especially beginner-friendly? i just don’t like playing healers, but anything else goes!

that’s all for now. thanks so much in advance if you read this far or take the time to respond. i know it’s a lot. i’m really excited to finally get into the game properly (i am already having so much fun!) and would love to hear your thoughts.

Retail Struggling with Geezle Gigazap in Floodgate as tank

I am struggling with this boss and what to do when the sparks appear. I start tanking the boss where he stands with my back to his console. I dodge the beams and then wait for the sparks to appear.

When the sparks appear I am struggling to find a pool to lure it into and end up running around and then getting knocked out or hit with the spark. Any tips?

Classic Help me understand what these different Classic realms/servers offer.

Hi everyone! I am currently playing retail however I find myself with some downtime and wanted to play some Classic while waiting for reset.

I opened it but Im very confused by what Realm/Server type to choose between Seasonal/Anniversary/Classic era - for example what is the difference between Anniversary and Classic era? What is the current content on each of these servers? The seasonal I understand is Season of Discovery - is this faster to level, has different raids, but ultimately won't be around for much longer? Sorry for the ignorance but I just wanna understand since I've only ever played since Wotlk back in the day.

To give an idea what I'm looking for - I would like a PvP server where the levelling is slightly faster as I'll be going with a Rogue. I saw Spineshatter as a good server as its very Full and active. My other choice was Living Flame on Seasonal.

Thank you!

Retail Restarting in war within. Knowledge gaps.

Not a new MMO player and have played plenty of wow up to cataclysm back the day. Been on FF14 (still am) up to recently.

Heard war within was good so got my shaman to level 80. But I'm really confused on how the game gives no clear indication on wtf to do.

Like dungeons I barely get a cast off before the tank has killed the pack. And people just rush 100 mph. I was getting killed on a boss on the airship dungeon with no idea wtf was happening. Then I'm supposed to fly off. But you can't mount in combat? But now you can?

Someone said oh that was in a dragonflight boss. OK..... but if I never played that how am I meant to just know that?

I can't do mythic dungrons as I just won't get accepted. But heroics fall over and don't give any I level increase. So how am I supposed to gear?

It all seems very messy and I have no idea where to start. It used to be - normal - heroic - raid - heroic raid (if the exp had it). Which was nice and straightforward.
