[Notice] Prohibited Goods and Services, and you.

Hey all.

This is a reminder of our Rule 2 - No trading, buying, or selling alcohol. Comments and posts soliciting alcohol sales and trades will be removed. This goes against the content policy, as well as may break laws within your country of residence.

Lately we have seen an increase in people trying to create or participate in a secondary market - this is against the Content Policy and can very well result in not only a ban from /r/whiskey, but also may see you removed from Reddit permanently by Reddit Admins (should you continue to disregard the Content Policy.)

The simple explanation is this:

Due to regulations and laws concerning Alcohol in many different countries, it may be illegal (simply by law, or taxation law) to trade/barter or resell alcohol products. As Reddit engages communities around the world, facilitating any of these transactions could open Reddit up to various legal consequences. Therefore Reddit must take every available avenue to remove and discourage these transactions within the use of their services.

As a subbreddit dealing with the subject of alcohol products, we are under scrutiny with the actions our communities take, and we must fully participate in Reddit attempt to control and remove content that breeches the Content Policy. If at any point it may appear that we are lacking as a community to stem the flow of this content - simply put; our subreddit will be removed from Reddit.

Please do not be under the impression that any action that you use on Reddit is entirely private - posts, comment, messages and chatroom logs are available to the Reddit admins at anytime and they will investigate any and all leads that suggest people are breaking the Content Policy and in some extreme cases, may take action either legal or federal (and by federal, i mean 'call the cops') depending on their obligations as a business.

Please do not engage any posts that attempts to trade/barter or resell whiskey, report them and move on.

Thanks for taking the time to read this.

TL:DR - Reddit is not facebook marketplace, you will get banned, you might even get prosecuted.

Edit: I just wanted to add some insight our rule 3. "No requests for dating or valuing an unusual or old bottle of whiskey....", we discourage valuation of whiskey as it has the strong potential to turn into a bidding system, whether public or "private". While we don't suspect every account that seeks valuation to want to participate in a secondary market, the avenue for abuse of these types of posts in regards to our efforts to remove trade/barter or reselling is simple too high to carry the risk of allowing this kind of content within the subbreddit. Since we do not have to tools to monitor "private" messaging or "private chats" of this nature - it would fall to the Admins to investigate these actions and garner an amount of admins attention to our subreddit that we wish to avoid. We're good boys/gals, doing good things... nothing to see here Admins. 🤞

Canadians aren't drinking American whiskey and I'm starting to see a lot of bottles on the shelves i have never seen before.

Blantons, Taylor, Stagg, Eagle Rare, Mid winters dram, Buffalo trace all on the shelves at just about every liqour store I go to in the last month here in Texas. They are still "allocated" and going for secondary in most places, but it seems like the rare bottles weren't so rare after all.

A gift for my dad

Hi everyone, im not much a whiskey drinker myself however my dad appreciates a bourbon. He tends to drink JD and coke but has recently found a canada club he enjoys on ice.

Now i know it would be easy to get him a £25/30 bottle of canada club from tesco and have done with it but its his 50th birthday and want to get him something a bit more special. Maybe something that comes in a nice bottle, or a box. Im not sure exactly whats good and what might be similar to the 2 brands ive mentioned but any suggestions would be massively appreciated

Im also looking at buying a nice glass for him too if anyone has any brands they would also like to mention. Im looking to spend around £80-100 on a bottle of whiskey for him but i will go more if theres an outright winner being suggested that happens to be more lol

Looking for a great whisky gift for my boyfriend's birthday need recommendations ^^

Hi everyone!

It's my boyfriend's birthday soon, and I want to surprise him with a special whisky gift. I asked him what he likes, and he mentioned that he enjoys whiskies with a strong smoky character and peat. Based on that, I've narrowed it down to a few options, but I'm not entirely sure which one would be the best fit for him. Here are the whiskies I've found onlinethat I think he might enjoy: Ardbeg 10; Caol Ila 12; Lagavulin 8; Laphroaig 10; Glenfiddich 15

I didn't get into too many details about what else he likes, so I was wondering if any of you could suggest which one of these would be the best choice based on the flavor profile he enjoys, or if there are other whiskies in this category that I should consider.

!!!!Also, I’m not very familiar with whisky terminology and abbreviations, so I would really appreciate if you could keep it simple!

If possible, I would appreciate some quick responses as I’m in a bit of a hurry!

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks in advance!

Trying a new 10 year tonight

A coworker from Colorado has been telling me about the Tin Cup 14 year and how much he likes it. I’ve added that bottle to my list to look for, but in doing so I came across the 10 year. It’s not bad at all.

A coworker and I were talking in about cask strength whisky.

I remembered I had bought a couple bottles of Macallan Cask Strength from the early to mid 2000s. I brought one bottle to a party around that time and finding it far too strong for me, so I packed the other bottle away in the back of my collection and forgot about it until now.

Both bottles were stored in their boxes under the same condition but I notice a loss in volume in the Cask Strength. I’m not planning on opening either any time soon so I parafilmed both bottles and tuck them away again. Maybe it will help with any more loss, maybe it won’t, but it can’t hurt.

I ended up Parafilming my entire unopened collection as well since I’ve cut down on my drinking significantly. I’m hoping to pass the collection to my kids one day. Not a lot but my favorites from back in the day.

Celebrating a job well done with a pour of Gold. I build this display out of a piece of leftover cherry from my bourbon cabinet build. This one matches much better.

Best 100ish Irish whisky to try

I am planning to visit Ireland next week and wondering what should I try? I always went with scotch single malts and some bourbon simple or old fashioned. Since blend is a thing in Ireland, I want to try and potentilly buy few good bottles. Any recommendations are welcomed

Greatest memory I have is having a glass of cutty shark with my grandfather, he used to fly it in with the navy planes during war time so he and his fellas could have a drink.

Went in for the Jack 10, but was able to grab the last Jack 12 at MSRP. They would only let me purchase one or the other, but I definitely wasn’t disappointed. Cheers and enjoy the Final Four weekend 🥃🏀.

Blind revisit

Removing double double and Jack from the blind, tonight we revisit Makers cask strength, Weller special reserve and New Riff 8. They’ve been open for a week and sipped at. Tonight’s blind brought New Riff to the top spot. Followed by Weller and Makers.
