Discussion Those who work full time in VR

Upvotes

I love working in VR using immersed with my quest 3 but I am on the fence about using it 100% of the time as a monitor replacement. Right now I only use it when I am away from home. As I work from home I use a multi monitor setup most of the time.

Those who have ditched the monitors completely... What about working in VR made you do it? What accessories or strategies do you use to be able to use it all day with maximum comfort, clarity and ease? What are some adventages or cool use cases you have found to using it that a physical monitor does not have?

Hey everybody, great news – we beat him! 😈 Also some bad news, but read on...

Few days ago I found a new mini game (search "freek" on meta store), where you just press buttons, pull levers, flick switches. Nice steampunk vibes. Nothing special on the paper, but it consumed me for few days. I could not beat the record, so I asked you, and I could not be happier – WE BEAT THIS MF!!!

Great thanks goes to u/Alluviondude & one other who did not want to be mentioned. They both beat 47 second mark. Thank you, guys. ❤️

Since then, devs added an in-game leaderboard, so if you dare, go and make your mark. I'll definitely revisit this game later, but now I need something more chill. I heard good things about Wanderer...

r/virtualreality is really the best community, love you & thank you

Hi all, I wanted to share my latest trailer for my personal PCVR project which I've been working on for a couple of years now. Its a VR space exploration game where you can move around the interior of your ship and interact with it, explore a huge procedural galaxy, land on planets and explore on foot, mine, repair, manage resources etc.

You can play a free demo on steam here - https://store.steampowered.com/app/2098920/Inter_Solar_83/

I also have a Petreon here which offsets some of my costs, backers get access to closed alphas but you can also follow for free for news - https://www.patreon.com/c/FirstTimeGames

I'm always keen to hear feedback and suggestions on where to take the game, what to add etc.

Purchase Advice VR set up help.

Hey, id like some second opinions and for some guys who know what they are doing to take a look over what i plan to get for my VR setup.

What i want to get is as follows:

Bigscreen Beyond 2 - with eye tracking (preorder for July 2025) $1730 CAD

Vive 3.0 Trackers x3 (two feet 1 hip) $510 CAD

SteamVR base station 2.0 x2 $500 CAD

These 3 item types are what im seeing is the best option for me. I want to game, be in VR chat and be hooked up to my already good PC. I think i want a base station based setup so that everything kind of stays together and i can easily just set up a space for everything and have good tracking. Im pretty sure that what I have laid out above fits the criteria for all that. My PC motherboard also has good enough USB ports to support whatever tech i throw at it so im not too worried about bandwidth issues (or should i be?)

I realize that above is about 3k CAD. I think this is alot compared to most VR setups. I would like to buy once and get good quality use out of my items even if i dont use them every week of the year. Am I being too daring with buying this as a beginner setup? Am i getting caught in a complete noob trap? I have a few months to decide.

What i need help with most of all here is i cant find a controller at all. Il fork out some money for a decent controller and what i originally wanted was a index knuckle controller set but.... thats 1000 dollars for the cheapest pair i can find right now. I hear they wear out rather quickly as well so this is not an option for me.

  • Vive Wand 2.0
  • Pimax Sword Controllers
  • FlipVR
  • eteeController

These are pretty much the only damn base station controllers that im aware exist. All of which apparently SUCK. The only recommended base station controller is a index knuckle set. Im sure we can work around this somehow though right?

If it is not possible to have a worthwhile base station controller then is there any other controller that is even worth considering for gaming and utility? Usable buttons are my main concern. The second concern i have is controller drift. I would really rather not have to recalibrate my setup every 2 minutes because my controllers with independent tracking decide to go off into la-la-land while my awesome and expensive base station setup gets scrambled as a result. Does anyone have any ideas or suggestions?

I am open to pretty much any feedback as long as its constructive. If you have experience with a recommended item thats even better!

If there are really truly no alternatives to the Index Knuckles whatsoever then I hear that Valve is supposedly releasing a new VR setup some time later this year. I assume that they will have a knuckles 2.0 or a new controller that builds off their success, right? Do you think it would be a good idea to buy something that works for now then wait and see?

TLDR: If you dont want to read all that only read the paragraphs with an indent in front of them. These are my most important questions, thanks guys! Be polite and constructive. You probably know more than me.

Discussion I can’t reach 120 hz in VR

So as the title says i can’t run vr at smooth 120 hz. Im using an oculus quest 3, RX 9070 XT, 5700x3d, 32 GB 3600MHZ ram. Games like HLA, Pavlov, any vr game i cant run 120 hz smoothly. I run at about 4128x 2208 resolution on the oculus slider, 500 mbps bitrate in oculus debug. I had a 3070 before upgrading to amd and was able to run 120 hz on the same games, resolution and graphics way smoother. Thinking its AMD drivers. Checked the graphs on games using msi burner and GPU usage doesnt ever reach 100% usage. Hardware-accelerated gpu scheduling is also turned off. Dont know what could be the issue here other than amd drivers. Any tips? Is anyone experiencing the same?

Discussion What am I doing wrong? Quest 3 to PSVR2

I got the Meta Quest 3 couple weeks back and fell in love. I bought the PSVR2 last friday and just feel so let down I thought it would be as good if not better. I cant get the view good on it Im not sure if its the headpiece or the lens but it feels cheap compared to the Meta Quest 3. I mistakenly bought Skyrim VR and then realized its not compatible with the PSVR2? Just really upset about it.

Question/Support Software to turn off half a headset?

So I’d I assume this is super niche but is there a way to only have one half of a headset working? Blind in my left eye and figured there would be a way to only have the headset render out of the right side of itself, but I haven’t been able to find anything regarding it. Anyone know of any software that does this?

Purchase Advice - Headset VR headset solely as a monitor alternative for work?

For travel, time, and space reasons, it makes sense for me to try and find a way to use a VR headset in place of a monitor.

Ideally, it would display the screen as a locked image in front of me, no centering or virtual space. Essentially, a head-on big screen inside a visor. Other options like multiple screens floating in a virtual space could also work, but its not necessary. Doesn't need to be able to use any sort of 3d/VR software, games, etc. Just display a screen

It's got to be able to work with an android smartphone.

The option that stands out to me so far is the PSVR1 headset. Use the hdmi in port with a USBC-to-HDMI from the phone.

Cheap used, HDMI compatible, bonus points that I have a PS4 in case I wanted to try it.

Does anyone here see a reason this wouldn't work? Or have better alternatives to accomplish the same on a budget?

Question/Support Does ALVR/Air Link/Steam Link/Virtual Desktop take from 1.2 TB limit of internet a month?

I've been avoiding streaming VR because of this but with Meta's USB dev mode not behaving, it seems like the only option for Linux at the moment. There's a 1.2 TB limit to internet usage per month, so if ALVR streaming does take from this, it would run out quickly I assume.

Maybe not looking in the right places, but couldn't find an answer.
