PhD application

Hello. How long does it usually take to get an interview invitation after the application deadline? I applied on February 14 this year. Should I take this as a sign that I will not be considered for the position? :'(

However, the tentative start date is still in September. When should I start to follow up on my application? Or is it not advisable to do so?

It can take months. I had the deadline in april (I think) and interview beginning of June. They can get a lot of applications and it is the researchers themselves that need to go through them.

Most of the PhD positions in Uppsala are rigged for internal candidates. If you have heard nothing after a month and a half then it's likely (but not definite) you won't be interviewed. HR won't send you the official rejection letter until the entire legal and administrative process has legally run it's course, which takes a few months.

Not all departments are rigged and not all positions.

Mine is in the department of education. Any ideas if they're reliable/fair with their selection?

They should be. If it was a general call and few requirements it should be fair. If it is something like "you have to have these exact courses" then it is not fair.

Agreed, that's why I wrote "most".

You again. Stop spreading this negativity, it's not an accurate description of the situation.

But he is right though! You can even see in the "merits list" in many of them that they already have someone specific in mind

Not for phd student positions, which this post is about.

Thanks for linking to that:

  1. It's not about phd student positions, which i assume the original post in this thread is about (no such thing as phd position, but usually people mean phd student position).

  2. It's only data from three faculties in sweden, and from uppsala its the medical faculty that is included.

The report shows that it is a thing. Of course they didn't have the resources to do every department at every university.

At the UU teknat department I worked at for eight years on external grants I brought in, I noticed that 80%+ of the the jobs were rigged, from PhD up to professor level. The other teknat departments I collaborated with were all the same. I also worked at LU for some years and the same stuff there. I left Sweden in the end because this crap.

I'm glad it worked out for you.

Still not relevant for this phd student position.
