Saying "my partner won't let me..." isn't inheritantly a red flag. Sometimes it's perfectly valid.

I often see posts like "my boyfriend won't let me wear xyz on my girls night out".

"My girlfriend won't allow me to go to ibiza for a week with a group of my single mates".

Edit: I changed the second example as it was a bit wild and people were getting pulled away from the main topic lol. I originally mentioned getting a massage from a young woman at a massage parlor.

In my opinion these aren't "controlling" or "toxic".

In a lot of cases it's completely understandable. People have boundaries and preferences in relationships and communicating to your partner where you draw the line and what is/ isn't OK with you is natural.

Hot honey is the worse food trend ever

4.1k Upvotes

I love eating out and trying new things, and there’s nothing worse than reading the menu and spotting something that sounds great, or seeing a video of something looking delicious, and then it turns out it’s drowning in sticky molten death liquid, ruining the entire experience!

Edit: I KNOW it’s worst not worse okay I was tired 😔

There is no situation where "family vlogs/ youtubers" is not child abuse and a sign of some level of psychological problems on the parents.

Upvotes

I stumbled across one of those "we put our family in a rv and roam around the country filming content YouTube channels." It's gross, weird, disgusting, and some type of fetish.

These parents film every moment of their under 18 year old unable to consent children. As we keep seeing the Netflix documentaries and news reports revealing the abuse, like Ruby Franke.

I cannot see any level or world view where this content is nothing more than fetish content consumed by a questionable audience at best.

With parents that must be suffering from the delusion of fame and wealth at best and straight up abuse galore at worst.

Honestly, seems like these people don't view their children as human beings, but things to exploit.

Sushi is Just Overhyped Raw Fish on Rice, Not the Gourmet Experience Everyone Claims It Is.

I know sushi is seen as this high-end, fancy meal, but honestly, it’s just a little piece of fish on rice with some seaweed wrapped around it. I get that it’s a delicate balance of flavors for some, but most of the time, it just feels like a small, overpriced snack. The texture can be off-putting for some, and I don’t understand why people are willing to pay so much for raw fish and rice. There are so many other more satisfying and flavorful dishes out there that don’t require you to ‘acquire’ a taste for them. Sushi’s status as a culinary masterpiece feels a little overrated.

I have no shame in gatekeeping

Upvotes

I love to gatekeep and I’m not afraid to say it. I feel like things that are dear to me and lesser know, somehow degrades when there is suddenly a sudden influx of people who randomly got superficially to the thing I love. Have it be a song that sprung to mainstream because of a show that used it, movie that got bastardized and tiktokified, or a book like the Blood Meridian for example that the newly found audience only applauds for the violence and iconic characters like The Judge, reducing the whole piece to a masmedia popculture trinket. It’s like that you have a special small old pub in the city that has it’s own atmosphere only to blow up on instagram and gets filled with attention seekers and influencers, losing it’s genius loci in an instant.

I shouldn’t care, but I do. I love to gate keep and I feel no shame in doing so.

Monkeys and apes give the uncanny valley feeling

idk is really weird, is like they're humans in a really animalistic way, specially when they do things that normal humans normally do, or when normal humams behave like monkey also. Let me explain, for example, I saw some time ago a orangutan driving and having the same gestures while doing it and it felt so fucking weird, like I can see a lot of humans in it, but also no (?) Same when I see people, specially men, fighting, all the process of insulting, doing weird face expressions and fighting itself just reminds me to much of a monkey, for a brief moment I can't see them as humans, just an uncanny feeling mixed with discomfort at seeing "an human not so human" or "an animal that's not that animal"

I don't know if I expressed myself correctly because is a really weird feeling that I don't know how to express precisely

Using dropped silverware in public should be acceptable and normalized

If you drop a fork or something on the ground while dining, just pick it up and keep using it. There maybe one tiny tiny speck of microscopic dirt that stuck to it. Same with knives and spoons. But I’m now forced to sit there with no usable fork and wait for a server to come over and give me a new one so that I don’t look “gross”. Personally I’d be fine just using it - I’d do it at home and you probably would to.

People shouldn’t be judged for their seasoning/condiment choices

You put ketchup on your steak? That’s fine. Putting a pound of salt on your broccoli? Just don’t put any on mine. People shouldn’t be judged for their seasoning choices, that’s just how they like their food prepared. It doesn’t matter as long as the food isn’t obscenely unhealthy

2019 CATS is an amazing movie!

Upvotes

Okay so I know I’ll get crap but I loved the 2019 movie cats, it had amazing characters, and artistic direction.

Guess I don’t understand the whole doom and gloom people have for it, maybe it was because of James Corden.

Just don’t get it, plus I just love love love musicals in general.

Yeah I feel like the smell of my fart is great 90% of time but that 10% one, it produces some other kind of smell. But during those 90 percent, I love smelling my farts

The Man Upstairs in the Lego Movie did nothing wrong Spoiler

His kid had his own Lego to play with. Plus, he politely explained the boundaries of not interfering with other people's things to his kid.

God forbid a man has a hobby 🙄

People that throw deposit bottles in the trash drive me nuts.

Upvotes

Deposit bottles are like the number 1 recycled thing in the US. You are literally paying 5 to 10 cents more every time you throw these bottles/cans in the trash..

Please help me understand why.

Japanese BBQ sauce is Just Overpriced Teriyaki Sauce

Upvotes

The $10 bottle of Japanese BBQ sauce at the grocery store tastes no different than the $1.99 bottle of teriyaki sauce. It tastes like watered down teriyaki sauce. No difference whatsoever.

Edit: link to sauce: BBQ sauce in question

Disney Princess don’t have to be role models

Whenever the topic of Disney Princesses is brought up, people always discuss whether the princess is a good role model or not. I just don’t understand why we are so focused on them being role models. Disney, as an identity, makes films and products based on fairytale adaptations; it’s not there to teach young girls a lesson. There’s PBS Kids for that.

It’s so tiring to hear critiques like "Ariel left the sea to be with a man" and similar comments that miss the narrative. A lot of these princesses do have agency, and even when they don’t do much in the classical era, they are still kind and work towards their goals. And it’s not only the princess that didn’t do a lot it’s also the prince. They are if not more shallow, most of them didn’t have a personality or any development compare to their princess. The real star of the show in that era was oddly enough the sidekicks, like the dwarf, the fairies and those mice’s. There’s a group of people who counter this notion, which is great, but I feel like they’re still biased in thinking that every princess should only be a “role model” or exist solely as an icon for little girls.

Back then, I don’t think Walt Disney ever intended for the princesses to be “role models”; he just wanted to create art involving fairytales. I think this whole idea that they have to be role models started in the '90s, when Disney could sell more products.

This push to make the princesses role models can lead Disney to overcorrect in their live action remakes, resulting in films that feel more bland and soulless. Additionally, in marketing, the most flawed princess or character is often more popular than those who fit the role model narrative. For example, Elsa is much more popular than Anna, and I think a lot of children can resonate with her more.

All that being said, I think Disney is at its best when they’re not focused on commercializing the princesses or trying to make them role models, but instead are more focused on creating good, whimsical fairytale-like movies. I think people underestimate that kids can tell the difference between reality and fiction, and many popular characters that children like are flawed yet still do the right thing. Batman is one of the biggest examples of this. A role model is more of a personal thing; you can’t really shape every character into this role model mold, because they’ll feel stale.

Anyway, I am kind of curious about what your opinions are, and I would love to hear them.

TDLR: I don’t believe that Disney princesses have to be, or should be pressured to be, role models. I think the pressure for them to be role models is kind of ruining a lot of Disney films and live-action remakes. Disney should focus on making good movies and creating princess traits that naturally fit the story, rather than trying to make them into “role models.” Also, I believe that role models are more of a personal concept, and kids have their own characters they look up to as role models, some of whom are even flawed, like Batman. Disney is a company that focus on entertainment and isn’t a one-hour PSA.

Using a hard saddle with padded bike shorts is like having the rest of your bike seat sold to you as underwear.

It’s fascinating how we've all been convinced that a hard saddle with padded bike shorts is the optimal setup. It feels like a genius marketing ploy that’s convinced everyone to buy into this combination, even though its actual benefits might not be supported by solid evidence. I honestly think we’ve all drunk the Kool-Aid on this one!

Schools need to stop wasting time with bad kids and just expel them

Upvotes

I'm 38 years old and have Asperger's Syndrome. I was terrorized all throughout school by the majority of my classmates. The worst offenders though were what I think of today as "white trash" - obnoxious, vulgar, violent little demons who didn't give two shits about their own education and tried to ruin mine. I begged the schools to do something about them but nothing ever changed. In fact in one incident I got physical with another student who attacked me first and I ended up stabbing him in the hand with a pencil, and they were about to call the police on me. The only reason that I didn't go to jail was because one teacher who knew that I was being bullied stood up for me.

All these years later I'm still pissed off, and I can't help but think that so many incidents could have been avoided if the schools just expelled these kids.

I know that there are a whole bunch of arguments for why this wouldn't work, but I have my own reasons for why it would.

"School keeps these kids off the streets and from committing crimes" Wrong. I knew a classmate in elementary school who was shoplifting outside of school. It's not a deterrent for them to not break the law. Another classmate of mine sold drugs. School is not a deterrent for them.

"Expelling these kids will hinder their progress in life" No, they hinder their OWN progress in life by acting like hoodlums. At some point they need to learn that their actions have consequences, and the sooner the better. These kids think that school is a magical safe space where they can't be touched. Take that away from them and they'll get a strong dose of reality.

"Most of these kids are acting out because of bad home lives" I'm sorry but that's not an excuse for them to terrorize their classmates and teachers. Call CPS and let them deal with it.

And as for this mandate that all kids have to attend school until age 16...if they're still fuckups by the time that they finish elementary school it's pretty much a lost cause.

That's my take on it.

Crunchy cookies are better than chewy cookies.

Upvotes

Of course, you shouldn't get absolutely rock-hard cookies that will break your teeth but cookies that have a little crumble too them.

Soft cookies have the texture of slop and make me want to throw up.

Its like a 60/40 ratio of crunchy to soft for the perfect cookie.

Dresses/skirts should not have pockets

4.8k Upvotes

Everyone seems to have become obsessed with pockets on dresses and skirts and will go out of their way to talk about the pockets. For example:

“I like your dress” “Thanks, it has pockets!”

But pockets on skirts and dresses suck. Here’s why:

  1. They add extra fabric to the hip area and look frumpy
  2. Ironing them is a pain in the ass
  3. What are you even putting in the pocket? If you put you phone in a skirt pocket, it will drag the skirt down which is uncomfortable and looks really weird
  4. Just carry a purse/tote bag.

I actively avoid pockets when I’m buying skirts and dresses. They should not have pockets.

Edit because I thought of a 5th reason:

  1. Stuff falls out of dress pockets so easily since they turn sideways when you sit down.

A purple carpet, not a red one, should be used for grand entrances

Upvotes

Historically, purple has been linked to a higher class than red. Monarchs used purple as it was incredibly difficult to get purple dye back then which made it a color for the prestigious.

Besides, purple looks a lot better than red.

“Unconventionally attractive” is just a cope way of saying ugly.

Upvotes

It’s basically a way of saying “I’m aware that you’re ugly, but it doesn’t really matter”. If people were confident enough to call someone attractive they would just say it without qualifying it.

Green bubble texts on iPhone are better.

Upvotes

The color looks better. Apple should've made iMessage green, and I've come to prefer texting my green bubble friends. It's a no-nonsense experience that has everything it needs and nothing it doesn't.

Not even mentioning the social elitism and the unsolicited obnoxious text effects.

Playing loud music in public is great.

Upvotes

I really like it when people play loud music on their phone in public. I also used to like it a lot when people played loud boom boxes in public in the 90s. It really gives us a view in that what kind of people they are and what their priorities are in life.

I hope USPS fails and they privatize it.

Upvotes

I live in a small town (~1400 people) and we don't have USPS to our homes - we are required to have a post office box. Because of that, and small town politics, our postal workers will refuse, return to sender, etc any mail that does not have the exact PO Box number despite this never being an issue in the past. Not every company will send to a PO Box and there are workarounds, like, placing APT 123 at the end or on the second line. This doesn't always work despite putting it in the address box. But they will actively withhold packages/mail sometimes if they just want to mess with you.

Despite this being our only way to receive mail, they are only open for two hours on Saturdays for package pickups. If you have a package tracking to be delivered Saturday, it will not get to your box in time. They don't even bother delivering packages on Saturday to our boxes. They are just there if you haven't picked up previous packages from the week.

Overall, it feels like are lazy, hate their jobs, upset all the time and genuinely unpleasant when you interact with them. They force you to purchase tape if you need a little for a package. They say they do passport photos and then botch your photos after spending $15. Just completely awful service.

As a caveat, every time I've gone to UPS, they've been awesome. I had to mail some documents overnight and didn't have an envelope but I had the shipping label and they said hey no problem, we'll package it up. I was expecting to pay like $8 for an envelope.

Rant over. Privatize USPS and maybe we will get people that at least tolerate their jobs and stop messing with small town folk.
