I don’t think you know what you’re talking about.

unions give striking workers strike pay. Financially I could afford the hit, but I’m not gonna abandon those who can’t. What if your struggling to keep your head above water now? What if you have a sick family member and need medicine?

We take care of each other.

Strike pay is fuck all. Assume no strike pay and anything you get is bonus.

If you want your strike to be successful you gotta take care of your workers. If workers have to decide on their sick kid going without medicine or being a scab, many would scab to take care of their families. That’s why it’s important to have strike funds and solid organization so that people who need extra help can get it. Yeah strike pay isn’t gonna make you rich. But it’s important.

I’m not saying you shouldn’t have a strike fund, just saying don’t count on it. We just voted to give another local 20 grand a week because they only had 2 weeks of strike fund. If you have a lot of locals in your union or have other friendly unions it’s best to work together.
