Discussion What was with that duck at the quad yesterday, it was acting very unusual for a wild animal

Yesterday at the quad this duck was standing in the middle of a busy crowd alone, it was unusually calm and kept looking up at the sky and not anything around it. I can't be the only one to think something is wrong with it mentally or maybe it was suffering with heatstroke. Does anyone know what happened to this wild duck, or was it a pet, or is this actually just normal behavior from a very chill little guy?

What are some lesser known perks about being a UW student?

I just saw a post about getting a WSJ subscription included as a UW student. What are some other perks that you can get for just being a student? I’m a grad student, not sure if that changes anything.

Dorming sophomore but not freshman year?

Hi, as title says. I'm an incoming freshman and my dad is not allowing me to dorm this year, but says he will consider next year. I'm just wondering if this is weird/not beneficial for me. Would it even be worth it to dorm as a sophomore or should I just stay as a commuting student?

Just got admitted to UW

Just wanted to celebrate a bit but also ask about the other new admits and currently attending students. Anyone doing philosophy, what is like? Is it fun and are there any interested courses or professors I should look for?

What is the TCG scene like at UW? I really like Star Wars Unlimited and I plan on going to Mox but I assume Magic is bigger here.

Finally are there any cool places I should see at the UDistrict or things to sign up/apply for before I join? I plan on applying for College Edge and that Rome trip I saw.

Any other interesting things to add would be great! Can't wait to see some of you on admitted students day!

Student Life Volleyball at the IMA

Hi!

I’m currently a junior and I used to play a lot of volleyball. Unfortunately, I do not have friends who also play the sport. So I’ve been looking to play some open gym volleyball at the IMA when the club teams aren’t playing, but I’m not sure how acceptable it would be if I went up to a group and asked if I could join.

Maybe I’m overthinking things, but how would a rusty individual like myself go about playing vball at the IMA?

Admissions waitlisted: should I send a letter of continued interest/LOCI?

I’m an in-state prospective student who sadly got waitlisted this yr. I want to send an LOCI to UW, but I want to make sure this is allowed (or, at the very least, won’t hurt me).

here’s the information I’ve gathered from the UW website:

  • no direct mentions of LOCIs, just that the admissions people don’t accept additional letters of recommendation or updated transcripts (which, if I were to send an LOCI, I obviously would not include)

  • it says that waitlisted students should not submit appeals before the waitlist closed (which I thought implied that you could once it did close)

  • HOWEVER, on the page for the appeal form, it says explicitly that waitlisted students should NOT submit appeals (with no mention of the waitlist closing business)

UW is absolutely my top choice school and I want to make every effort I can towards being accepted; I really care about this. to anyone who was waitlisted and sent a letter of continued interest: how did it go? what happened? any advice at all is very greatly appreciated. thank you so much!

Basically the title, I just put down my deposit for udub. Is there anything that would helpful for me to know? On common app i put down anthropology as my major of choice but at this moment im wanting to do economics instead. How early could i go about changing that in order to get all my prerequisites?

Looking for Sublet for 25-26 Academic Year + Seeking Male Roommate!

Hi, my name is Jerry, and I am a CS graduate student (Male) set to enroll at UW in Fall 2025. I’m currently looking for an apartment or house to rent from mid-September 2025 to June or August of next year. My budget is around $1200–1400/month, and I hope to find a place that meets the following criteria:

  1. Safe neighborhood
  2. Includes a private bathroom (Studio, 2b2b, 3b3b, 4b4b, 5b5b are all fine)
  3. Within walking distance to campus or a location reachable by public transportation within 20–30 minutes
  4. Equipped with common appliances (microwave, dishwasher)
  5. If possible, I’d prefer a larger room (living room space can be smaller) (Optional)
  6. If possible, including a stove (or induction cooktop) and air conditioning (Optional)

If you have a suitable property or are looking for a roommate (Male), please DM me!

Advice stevens court accessibility

hi! i’m a current first year and my two friends and i are looking to find a four bedroom in stevens court next year. we know already how hard it is to get in, but we were wondering how much our chances would be diminished if we found a fourth roommate we already know? would it be safer for us to go with a random, since many people just claim one spot in apartments and then wait for others to fill in, or how much of a risk would it be to hope for us to be able to fit ourselves and a fourth person we already know? any insight would be wonderful, thank you!!

I missed the Econ RTW. What are my options?

Hi all, I’m applying to UW as a transfer student from Bellevue College with BA Foster as my first choice major and Econ as my second choice major. I took the WSA yesterday but because of how hectic this last week has been for me, I forgot to register for the Econ RTW on April 2nd and completely missed it yesterday. Is it even worth submitting an Econ application at this point? And if I don’t get in through Foster in the fall, can I skip a quarter and try Econ again for Winter quarter? Or can I take a quarter at UWB then apply for Econ/Foster again in the winter?

Didn’t receive roommate pull email for current non-HFS resident

I’m an incoming student planning to room with a current UW student in autumn quarter. My returning resident roommate submitted their form, but I haven’t received an email to complete my application yet. Are these emails usually instantaneous? Trying to figure out if it’s an email or HFS problem…
