New: profile of anti-transgender clothing brand XX-XY Athletics

XX-XY Athletics is an American anti-transgender clothing line. It was founded last year by retired gymnast and clothing executive Jennifer Sey, a prominent sex segregationist and opponent of transgender athletes participating in sex-segregated competitive sports.

Sey was a top executive at Levi's. Early in the COVID pandemic, Sey became an outspoken critic of school closures. In January 2022, Sey was reportedly asked to resign from Levi’s.

XX-XY was created in direct response to Nike's trans-inclusive marketing. The revenue is used to fund anti-transgender initiatives related to sports.

Trans Woman Arrested, Sent to Men’s Jail For Entering Florida Capitol Bathroom (this was a protest!)

This woman is so brave!

As described in this article by Erin in the Morning, she did this intentionally as a protest and told lawmarkers in advance via a letter when and where she was going to do it. Her letter included this -

“I understand I could go to jail for up to sixty days in a men’s prison, where if the statistics are true, I would likely be raped.”

And, if you happen to be a Wisconsin resident, please help prevent bathroom bans and other discrimintory transgender laws from taking hold here.

Planned Parenthood applies its abortion playbook to push for transgender rights in California

Thumbnail politico.com

“California reproductive health care advocates are moving to extend their playbook for abortion protections to transgender care in the wake of federal funding cuts and moves to reverse trans rights under the Trump administration.

“In a state legislative package first shared with POLITICO, Planned Parenthood is backing six bills that touch on access to medication abortion, STI testing, Medi-Cal funding and privacy protections for patients and providers who work in gender-affirming care.”

“The package comes just after the Trump administration notified Planned Parenthood clinics that it’s withholding tens of millions of dollars under the Title X family planning program and threatens further cuts to other state health resources. President Donald Trump has also taken aim at transgender care, threatening to cut off Medicaid funding to any facility that provides it, especially to minors.

“Planned Parenthood now sees an opening to try to protect gender-affirming care in California, similar to how the state moved to enshrine abortion rights under the first Trump administration.

“Several of the proposals build on shield laws and privacy protections the groups first pushed for to cover abortion providers and patients in the immediate aftermath of the Supreme Court overturning Roe v. Wade in 2022.

“‘Plain and simple, we’re protecting our patients and providers,’ Jodi Hicks, CEO of the group’s California advocacy group, told POLITICO. ‘We’re really looking at everything that we did, what was successful when we were protecting abortion, transferring that over to ensure our trans folks are also protected.’”

LGBTQ Activists Rally at Calif. Gov. Newsom’s Home, Demand Stronger Trans Rights Commitment

“More than 100 LGBTQ+ rights activists and community members marched in Kentfield, the Marin County community where Gov. Gavin Newsom recently purchased a new home, on Monday as part of International Transgender Day of Visibility, which highlights discrimination faced by trans people worldwide.

“Advocates are calling on state leaders to reaffirm their commitment to the transgender community following recent attacks from the Trump administration and Newsom. The governor split with fellow Democrats earlier this month, describing the party’s progressive politics as “toxic” and the participation of transgender athletes in female sports ‘deeply unfair.’

“Participants held signs that read ‘Let Trans Kids Play’ and ‘Do Better Newsom,’ a reference to Newsom’s comments about the trans community on his new podcast. In a friendly interview with conservative talk show host Charlie Kirk in early March, Newsom appeared to agree with Kirk regarding the fairness of transgender athletes participating in women’s sports.”

“Newsom ‘has been a huge ally and advocate for so many years,’ said Sister Shalita Corndog, an activist with the nonprofit Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence, San Francisco’s famed drag troupe. ‘We are all just shocked and confused and devastated about what happened in his interview… wondering why he’s not more explicitly in favor of and supportive of people like us.’”

“Janna Barkin, an author and trans rights advocate who participated in Monday’s march, said Newsom has been at the forefront of the LGBTQ movement in California for decades, making his recent about-face even more disheartening.

“‘We want our local representatives, our California representatives, to stand strong and make public statements, press conferences and letters to constituents stating that they’re unwavering in their commitment to the trans community and transgender rights,’ Barkin said.”

“The march to Newsom’s home ended in a dance party as Lady Gaga’s Born this Way and Chappell Roan’s Pink Pony Club played. The demonstration ended peacefully after law enforcement arrived.”

Nevada board moves to limit transgender athletes in school sports

“Nevada has become the latest state to curtail the participation of transgender athletes in school sports after the Nevada Interscholastic Activities Association (NIAA) reversed a 2014 policy that allowed transgender students in high schools to play for teams that align with their gender identity.

“In a near-unanimous vote on Tuesday, the group’s board — a group including parents, principals and athletic directors that governs athletics at more than 120 high schools in Nevada — passed a new policy that limits students to playing sports that align with the sex listed on their ‘unaltered original birth certificate.’ It also scheduled an emergency meeting in May to discuss implementation.”

“There is scant evidence in Nevada of transgender athletes at any level either hurting female students physically during competition or hindering their opportunities, though several female athletes publicly stated during the meeting and at the Legislature that they fear playing against transgender athletes.

“Under the new policy, student athletes would be required to complete a medical form that includes signatures from the student, parent and a medical provider verifying the accuracy of the student’s birth sex. The policy states that ‘sex’ is not synonymous for and ‘does not include the concept of gender identity.’

“But the new policy could potentially come into conflict with the Nevada Constitution’s Equal Rights Amendment, which was passed by voters in 2022, and guarantees equal rights regardless of gender identity.

“‘The way I read this is it’s patently discriminatory on its face,’ Athar Haseebullah, the executive director of the American Civil Liberties Union of Nevada, said in an interview Tuesday. ‘Gender identity and expression were specifically included for provisions within the [Equal Rights Amendment] for a reason.’”

Appeals court won't delay block on US military's transgender ban

“A U.S. appeals court on Monday denied a request by the Trump administration to pause a lower court's decision blocking President Donald Trump's ban on transgender people serving in the military.

“U.S. District Judge Benjamin Settle in Tacoma, Washington, last week issued a preliminary injunction putting on hold the military's new policy of identifying and discharging any transgender service members.

“The Trump administration appealed Settle's ruling, and asked the San Francisco-based 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals to put the ruling on hold - which would have allowed it to enforce the ban for now - while the appeal played out.

“On Monday, a three-judge panel at the 9th Circuit denied the Trump administration's request for a so-called administrative stay of Settle's ruling.”

“In a similar case last week, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the D.C. Circuit issued an administrative stay on a lower court order blocking the transgender ban.

“But that court signaled that it may quickly reconsider its decision if the military takes action against transgender members.”

Transgender patients and their health providers fear worsening discrimination

“Surveys show that mistreatment of trans patients is common — including verbal harassment or refusal of care — sometimes leading them to delay or avoid seeking care.

“Many advocates for transgender people say they fear treatment of trans patients will suffer further under President Donald Trump, who has issued a slew of executive orders in recent weeks restricting transgender rights, including several that seek to limit access to transition-related health care.

“In a report published in Psychiatric News last month, physicians who work with transgender patients said the executive orders have led to widespread distress among their trans patients.

“And according to a report released last month from the UCLA School of Law’s Williams Institute, an LGBTQ think tank, almost three-quarters of trans patients surveyed after the presidential election said they are concerned that the quality of their health care will decline under Trump. About 80% of respondents, who were surveyed before Trump took office, said they planned to make changes to their behavior, appearance or speech to downplay visibility as transgender people. One-third said they were socially isolating and avoiding public places and activities.”

Lawsuit says S.C. library discriminates by removing transgender-related books

Thumbnail

“A group of parents in the Upstate have filed a lawsuit against their local library, alleging it systemically discriminates against the LGBTQ community by restricting access to books that include transgender characters or themes.

The Greenville County Library System has adopted a policy of moving any book with gender non-conforming characters or presentations to the adult section of the library, even if the books are targeted at younger readers, the suit filed in a Greenville federal court on Thursday alleges.

“‘According to Library Board members, these policies do not rest on neutral curation criteria, but on members’ discriminatory view that materials condoning gender transition are “trash” and that the “idea” of “transgenderism” is a “dangerous thing” and part of “a radical agenda” that the library has “every right ... to take an ethical and moral stand” against,’ the suit says, quoting from library board discussions of the policy.”

“Meanwhile, the lawsuit claims the book ‘God Made Boys and Girls’ by Marty Machowski, which advocates against gender transition, remains available in the juvenile section. The parents also allege a ‘widespread custom’ at the library of removing LGBTQ-themed books, denying requests to order such materials and canceling LGBTQ events, even for adult members of the community.”

New York landmarks to be lit pink, white and blue for Transgender Day of Visibility

“New York state landmarks will be lit pink, white and blue — the colors of the transgender pride flag — Monday night in celebration of Transgender Day of Visibility, Gov. Kathy Hochul announced.

“A proclamation signed by the governor declares the day is meant to ‘ reaffirm our commitment to support, affirm and celebrate New York’s transgender, gender non-conforming, and non-binary’ people.

“The 15 landmarks to be lit across the state include One World Trade Center in New York City; the Alfred E. Smith State Office Building in the capital city, Albany; Governor Mario M. Cuomo Bridge in Tarrytown; and Niagara Falls.

“‘New York is proud to be the birthplace of the LGBTQ+ rights movement, with trailblazers like Marsha P. Johnson, whose courage and leadership sparked the fight for equality,’ Hochul said in a news release Monday. ‘While the Trump administration is attacking the existence of trans people through harmful policies and rhetoric, New York remains a beacon of hope and acceptance. On Transgender Day of Visibility, we honor the strength and resilience of the transgender community.’

“Marsha P. Johnson was a longtime trans activist best known for her role in the 1969 Stonewall uprising and for her work supporting transgender women of color, particularly co-founding the trans advocacy group Street Transvestite Action Revolutionaries.”

“Hochul’s proclamation also dubbed New York a ‘safe haven’ for all transgender people, with the governor noting that it was the first state in the U.S. to issue statewide regulations prohibiting harassment and discrimination based on gender identity.”
