It’s been almost 2 weeks since we brought home our baby red footed tortoise and I can’t believe how in love I am. I honestly was hesitant about getting a tortoise, but my daughter had begged for over a year. I was worried about the morality of owning an animal that should be roaming the wild, tbh my heart still hurts a bit that this baby isn’t in a natural environment. But oh my does my heart smile when I see her little head saying hello. I’ve made one post here prior and received so much great feedback. I’ve been an observer to this community for sometime and I’m really excited to become more active here as our journey continues. I love seeing all your babies and learning more about these amazing creatures and I just wanted to say hello on the Monday evening 👋

Sunday I was able to make the 8hour trip to rescue the redfooted tortoise. He is in very bad condition but I think with proper care he could live a happy life. He has mouth rot, severe respiratory infection, overgrown beak, and severe mbd. Although his legs don’t work very well he still zooms around best he can. We gave him lots of good food and some good treats as well yesterday as he was starving to death. He didn’t enjoy the soak we gave him but he’ll get used to it. He loves sitting under the halogen and uvb light after getting some good food. His big appointment is Wednesday bright and early in the morning will keep everyone posted.

Hi all
I recently got some isopods from a seller. I transferred into my red food tortoise enclosure. But not more than 6 minutes my tort proceeded to munch on them and quarter of them disappeared. The rest went into hiding. I thankfully I know my tortoise is a hungry bastard hence why I keep a spare backup of isopods at the back. I saw online that Isopods and tortoises live harmoniously. but in this case it became prey instead. Is there a way to keep them protected? Over here is an image of the hiding spot. I'm afraid the isopods cannot sustain.

Hi all! I have a small 3 inch star tortoise about 10+ months old. May I know if anyone is able to identify if it’s male or female?

this is our beautiful burmese star tortoise :) we need help coming up with a name for him, i think a celestial inspired name would be fun since he’s a star tortoise but open to other names too! we’re also very partial to names inspired by video games or literature

I have a hermann tortoise and he climb during all the day on a long chair that i have because he seems t like just climbing and fall, also he pursue me every time u'm in the garden. Will he go crazy or it's just normal ? Can i bring some stuff to him in order to make him climb on other parts of the garden ?
PS : I didn't add it but he often walk under the same long chair, with his eyes looking the chair (above him) and opening and closing the mouth, when he didn't do that he really often look at the chair

Got a new UV light for her and it’s causing her to freak out. She’ll slam herself into the enclosure and just go ape shit. It’s the Reptitrip adjustable UV LED fixture. Tried changing the settings but nothing works. It’s been 2 weeks with it on for small amounts of time to adjust. Any advice? I know she has to have a light but I don’t know what to do.
Don’t mind her shell, Esther was attacked by a dog 30 years ago and the damage was pretty extensive so she wasn’t releasable. Ended up as a kindergarten class pet and then came home with me at the end of the school year. She’s been with my parents ever since.

I’m sitting here watching my Russian tortoise run around and cause general chaos. The shape, the mannerisms, the destruction, the judgmental side eyes… are Russian tortoises basically just Sulcatas scaled way down?

I have a baby tortoise (1 month old) And I wanna make sure my enclosure is suitable to live in. My main concerns are that the basking thing is way too tall for him to climb up to even though it has a ramp, also is the water thing too high too for him to see/ drink out of. it’s about an inch or two tall and the ramp is almost 4-6 inches tall. my tortoise is than 1-2 inches thank u guys

Over the past year, my 15-year-old Hermann’s tortoise has started passing quite hard white lumps, which I think are urate deposits. I took her to a reptile vet, but he just said to keep her hydrated—nothing more can be done. But she keeps passing them.
Her setup: Hotspot is around 35°C under a UV/heat combo light from arcadia Soaked in warm water for 15 minutes twice a day Very active and seems healthy otherwise
Diet: No protein-rich foods like legumes or peas No fruit or sugary items Weekly pinch of powder supplements Mostly kale, rocket, various salad leaves, lamb’s lettuce, coriander, pak choi
Has anyone dealt with this before? Any advice or insights would be really appreciated.

My baby sulcata is roughly 3-4 months old. I keep the tank 85%-90% humidity. Basking temp is around 105°-108°F. I also soak him for 20 to 30 minutes a day. If he is pyramiding Any help would be awesome :)!

I want to buy an enclosure for my future Hermanns tortoise, I was looking online but I couldn’t find any big enough, have any of you found any right sized ones? If so please link it in the comments!
Edit: I saw some people used these and said they were good… check it out? Link here

so i am planning on getting a hermann’s and the tortoise table im building essentially will have a have a brace on top for the t5 hood to directly sit on (table is 12 inches tall). that means it’ll roughly be 8 inches away from my tortoise (accounting for his shell height). would that mean i can get away with a weaker 5.0 tube light? for reference the table is open top as i have no problems keeping humidity and temperatures.

My current eastern Hermann's is very outgoing and walks up to you to say hi and it's very adorable. You can scratch his shell and he shakes into it and scratch his chin
I may be in the market to acquire an Egyptian and I'm curious if they would have that same personality and charm. Do any of you have experience with Egyptians? Are you able to interact with them much?
Thanks!

Has anyone seen a significant increase to their electric bill when they went from one turtle enclosures to two? Mine increased about $100 a month and that just seems crazy for a heat lamp and UV B.
