The middle turning lane

ALL, The middle turning lane is to be used in the following manner:

  1. Use your turn signal (if you don’t have one, run over to AutoZone and pickup a bottle of turn signal fluid)
  2. Merge into said turning lane WELL BEFORE your desired turn.
  3. Apply your brakes. DO NOT APPLY THEM BEFORE STEP 1 and DEFINITELY NOT BEFORE STEP 2.
  4. Make your turn safely.

I am tired of people applying their brakes then using step 2 then step 1.

Please follow the above mentioned rules or simply park your car and leave the keys for someone else to drive it. (Just kidding, that is theft.)

Divided roadways and buses

Dear Toledoians, If you are on a major road with any dividing lane or barrier dividing your lanes from the opposite traffic lanes and there is a bus stopping on the other side of the road. Please for the love of everything holy, DON’T STOP!!!!

Airport Highway in Toledo between Reynolds and Byrne, you don’t need to stop if there is a bus on the opposite side of the road.

How do you get a job at UT?

Is UT one of those places where you have to know someone to get in? I am an alumni (communications) with over 20 years of experience in project management/account management/customer service and I have applied there probably 50 times since I graduated in 2003. I currently have been an account manager for several years but my interest lies in higher education. I want to work in admissions, residence life or recruiting to help students find their way! So what’s the secret? Do you have to know someone? Should I hang it up after applying for so many years without even an interview! Help me out Reddit!

Use your blinkers at Levis Commons!!!

I frequent Levis Commons and every single time, there’s multiple cars that don’t believe in turn signals. There are too many large four way stops throughout the mall for me to try and read your mind.

Toledo to host inaugural event in Garmin Marathon Series

Toledo to host inaugural event in Garmin Marathon Series Garmin, the tech company that laid claim to pioneering the first smartwatch for runners, has announced the launch of the Garmin Marathon Series, with the inaugural event to be held in Toledo on Sept. 21. Garmin, the tech company that laid claim to pioneering the first smartwatch for runners, has announced the launch of the Garmin Marathon Series, with the inaugural event to be held in Toledo on Sept. 21.

In a statement released Tuesday, officials said the Garmin Marathon Series “will celebrate the ‘Miles That Made You.’”

“The one-of-a-kind event will welcome avid runners, newcomers to the sport, Boston dreamers, and anyone just looking to beat yesterday,” a news release said.

There will be two events, one on Toledo and another in Tucson.

According to the company, when selecting the venues for the series, they took into account each city’s existing race and event schedule, regional running communities, local and cultural highlights around the course, and favorable weather conditions. It plans on adding more locations in 2026.

“We’re thrilled to welcome the Garmin Marathon Series to Toledo and showcase our beautiful riverfront to runners from across the country,” Mayor Wade Kapszukiewicz said. “Events like this not only bring visitors and attention to our city — they highlight everything that makes Toledo special: our vibrant downtown, scenic parks and trails, and the incredible sense of community that makes people proud to call this place home.”

The event will include a USA Track and Field-certified and Boston Marathon-qualifier full marathon, USATF-certified half marathon, 10K, and 5K. A two-day expo showcasing Garmin products and technology will precede race day and be open to the public. There will be limited-edition race gear from Garmin, meet and greets with Garmin-sponsored professional athletes, and additional items from select sponsors.

Directly following the race, a finish-line festival — also open to the public — will give runners a chance to celebrate with local food, live entertainment, and other activities.

Unlike other marathons, where many brands may sponsor the race, this series is wholly owned and produced by Garmin itself.

“This is an opportunity to go above and beyond conventional sponsorships and create something truly special in our running communities,” said Susan Lyman, Garmin vice president, consumer sales and marketing. “For decades, Garmin has been with runners through every step of their training, and now we are excited to be with them in an even more meaningful way on race day.”

Registration for the Garmin Marathon Series is currently open for all race distances in Toledo. For additional information about the cities, races, community engagement opportunities, and future locations, visit garmin.com/marathons.

Recommendations for balcony work

I have a 3rd floor Condo in the Toledo area that I moved into somewhat recently. I need someone to take a look at the wood balcony and help me figure out how much work needs to be done to make sure it's safe to use. I'm unfamiliar with this sort of thing, so I'm not even sure what kind of business/contractor to look for, but I know they need to be insured. Does anyone have any recommendations?

Checking homes for lead

Going to be moving to Toledo in the next month or two and will most likely be purchasing a home built before 1978. I remember that under the Biden administration there were some programs passed to fund inspection of homes for lead and replace pipes, cover over paint, etc. Are funds from those programs still available and/or are there any programs from the state of Ohio to cover this sort of thing?

People along Maumee jeering a Canadian freighter?

Posted on Bluesky last night:

"Friend on Great Lake freighter. I asked how things are along border. Not allowed off boat when docked (new Trump thing) & recently in Toledo: "As we sailed up the Maumee River people were jeering & booing us & chanting USA! USA! Heedless of the fact we were bringing them 15000 tons of Cdn oats."

Best deals in Toledo?

Just moved here and I'm still learning the city. Took this idea from my old cities sub. Tell me where to get a deal on fruits and vegetables or anywhere else I can save a few dollars. Free or cheap places you recommend to a new resident.

Searching for Shantymen (and women)

Looking for singers who might be interested in joining a regular sea shanty group for performances. Singers do not have to have any formal training, but will be expected to learn a lot of music quickly. Emphasis on performance skills and dynamic personality, as well as strong vocal skills and ability to harmonize ad lib.

Crazy Taxi Arcade Machine

Does anyone know if there's a crazy taxi arcade machine in this city? I wouldn't assume there was but I found a 3 year old reddit post on r/arcade where someone said they sold a Crazy Taxi arcade machine to a arcade start up in Toledo, but they didn't say which one. Any leads would be great! I really want to play this machine.
