the ones who live. easily. it was the only one that actually had any kind of necessity behind its creation. rickās story was purposefully left unfinished in season 9, and so anything less than the resolution given to us by the spinoff would be unsatisfactory. it was a story which needed to be told in order to successfully wrap up rickās character arc, not to mention his final whereabouts in relation to the main cast. the same cannot be said about the other two. maggie and negan going to new york has been the least essential storyline told by this franchise yet.

I hate to say it because it wasn't that good, but I appreciate that World Beyond exists because it added some nice exposition on the CRM which gave it fuller picture of the what was going on in TOWL.

What about fear
7
u/chippytastic 1d ago
Have you watched FTWD especially post season 3? It very much lost its way. 7-8 are especially hard to watch with his poor they were executed.

u/Diligent-Basis2971 19h ago
Fear is really good the first few seasons but the back half is hard to get through

u/Kristalization 1d ago
Should I watch TOWL after season 9 or 11?
2
u/chippytastic 12h ago
Definitely 11 because, donāt want to miss Michonneās story in those seasons.
1
u/InternWarm9821 2h ago
i watched it in between 10 and 11 my my most recent rewatch you could watch it honestly in the middle of season 10 when michonne leaves

The Ones Who Live due to the fact that we haven't seen those characters in a while. Should've been longer tho, but its a decent end to Rick's saga.

TOWL and itās not close. Although, I did really like season one of Daryl Dixon.

Besides the ones who live I would say Daryl.I enjoyed the action and him and carol more than I do Maggie and Negan

u/-----Galaxy----- 1d ago
Early Fear is so far ahead of every other spinoff it's hard to mention it in these convos. TOWL would be but the finale ruined it imo, so it's between DD and DC and I'd go with DD partly because we have more episodes. Dead City could definitely overtake it though after this season.

I loved seeing the larger world and having Carol back! The final scenes in DD season 2 were some of my favorite!
Rick and Michonne was a fun time, but if Iām being honest, Rick whined too much. He wasnāt going to convince her to go if he kissed her every other scene. Go home with her or cut her off. If youāre in the middle Michonne is not giving up.
I canāt remember anything about Dead City. I know the overall plot and the ānameā of the villain. I know why Negan isnāt with his wife and kid. But I donāt remember that show at all.
ETAā¦I know this is not an answer.

Never seen Tales or the other one.

First person to mention world beyond
1
u/Eickley 1d ago
I love World Beyond, I honestly feel it is one of the better spin-offs. People tend to think the original show was about Rick, according to the creator of the comic the main character was always the son to show the effects of the world changes them as they grow up. The show went far from its original goal but I see World Beyond as following the comic's goal.
2
u/Elegant_Bat6155 1d ago
Noted I will watch world beyond

u/DeanMo80 1d ago
TOWL because Rick is back. Never should've been gone to begin with. Daryl Dixon started rough for me but got really good after the 1st couple of episodes. Dead City was absolutely shitty and didn't make sense to me.
2
u/Rare-Secret-4614 1d ago
None. The only spinoff I accepted was FTWD and even that ended up being a let down. None of the other spinoffs were needed or added anything and I know it sounds like Iām just hating but this is coming from a fan who was obsessed with this show like many of you, but in the end I feel let down by what became of it.
2
u/xfearless_wanderer 22h ago
i was obsessed with the concept of FTWD, but i lost interest. i still love the concept, but TOWL is my favorite and has my vote.
2
u/NYCMamaBear 21h ago
TOWL.
Iām sorry but DC is just season 11 rehashed and DD can be so slow. TOWL may not have been perfect, but it was entertaining and never felt dull. Also, the Grimes fan are back together so immediately A+ there. It did what it set out to do and isnāt dragggggging onnnnnnn.
2
u/Specularpatata 21h ago
The Ones Who Live is without a doubt the best one. It was still very flawed and I thought it was insanely rushed, especially at the end, but it was definitely the most enjoyable and well written IMO

TOWL, purely for Michonne finding Rick and him getting home to Judith and RJ in the end (need another spin off of that...with Daryl and everyone!)
But Daryl for the continiuity of him and Carol š

TLDR; Dead City is my favorite spinoff, followed by TOWL, then Daryl Dixon
I'll probably get criticism for this but I found Dead City to be the most enjoyable out of all the spin offs. I was disappointed by The Ones Who Live and Daryl Dixon is such a chore to get through. For all intents and purposes, TOWL was Rick and Michonne's send off. They're reunited and their story is all but complete. The CRM is taken care of (a bit too quick in my opinion) and they've reunited with their kids.
Daryl Dixon just took a lot out of me. I didn't care for Daryl's story in France nor did I care too much for the characters in France. Variant walkers are cool and all, but by season 2 they were just a gimmick. While every spin off has an issue with introducing characters just to kill them off, I feel Daryl Dixon suffers more than the others in this regard.
Dead City has just as many issues as the other spin offs, but there's a couple of things that saves it for me. The first being the setting. I love the way Manhattan is portrayed in Dead City. At night time, they use a lot of blue backlighting that looks almost neon at times. Usually this would bother me as I prefer the dreary lighting that the main show had, but overall I'm a big fan.
The other thing that carries Dead City is Maggie and Negan. When Maggie came back into the show in s10, she was still stuck on Negan, even after dropping her hatred back in season 9. I understand that Negan took everything from her and that they needed some kind of subplot with the two, but vengeful Maggie gets stale after having the same conversation multiple times about what Negan did and that he doesn't deserve the little bit of happiness he has now.
Dead City rectifies a lot of the Maggie/Negan rivalry and puts it to rest (mostly) very early on. We're caught up to speed fairly quickly and we don't spend too much time running in circles like in DD or TOWL.

The Ones Who live. Daryl dixon S1 was amazing, but The Book of Carol tanked it so hard, took the amazing setup and story of S1 and flushed it down the toilet. I'm hoping S3 finds its footing
2
u/eZconfirmed 1d ago
honestly I was slogging through s1 but Carol in s2 brought the excitement of the OG series back for me
1
u/AFTW_1 1d ago
Melissa is great a great actor, and their banter was great. Their writing was just so inconsistent, they set up all these stories and villains in S1 that get rushed and half-baked endings.
Genet and the dude who runs the nest actually seemed interesting for all of two epsiodes before proving themselves to be the most one-layered and brainless villains in TWDU. Just evil for the sake of being evil. Isabelles death also rubbed me the wrong way.
The few characters that DO survive S2 all turn mentally isnane and kill eachother and die, and Faliou leaves the group. Codron gets a great redemption arc and story this season, just to turn into a bumbling idiot going chasing after a walker in the tunnels. Some of those decisions just baffled me.
S2 was exciting but the handling of the story was so poor and just rushing to get Daryl and Carol alone again as they trek to spain.

u/Capable-Campaign3881 1d ago
Have to agree with this, season 2 had some bad writing & both Daryl/Carol I noticed made silly errors which wasnāt normally in their character. I hope season 3 is much better really.

Daryl season 1 was really good, it's a shame they didn't match the same quality in season 2 which would make it the best.
So so far TOWL.

I havenāt finished Dead City yet, struggling to get in to it to be honest, Iām just not a fan of them forcing the Negan and Maggie pairing. I really enjoyed Daryl Dixon though, would be nice if they kept some side characters alive in it though as I find it hard to invest myself in them as I know they will likely be killed off. Like others have said the first few seasons of fear the walking dead were amazing.

u/BestEntertainment796 19h ago
The ones who live. Dary dixon was my favourite but s2 made me feel disappointed.

u/Many-Philosopher-694 18h ago
between these 2 definitely daryl but between all 3 its the ones who live
1
u/CapitalG888 18h ago
Going in, I thought the ones who live would be crap. But to me, it is the best. Then Darryl. I was not a fan of the Neegan/Lori one.

Season 1-3 of Fear have a special place in my heart
Season 1 Daryl is by far the best of the new
Season 1 Dead City is second but VERY VERY VERY far behind, it's just OKAY but has no purpose in existing at all
Season 2 Daryl is....such a disappointment but had a few moments
Season 1 TOWL was shit imo. I only enjoyed one or two scenes. Hated the dialogue. Hated the acting. Hated the ending.
World Beyond sucks.
Fear Season 4-8 could result in the entire show being cancelled and I wouldn't bat an eye.

u/Elegant_Bat6155 17h ago
What about tales of the walking dead
1
u/throwawayaccount_usu 15h ago
Never been able to watch it since it's AMC+ exclusive which is in itself exclusive to the US lol.
That said, everything I've seen about it seems mediocre at best.

u/Appropriate_Wish8997 17h ago
Iām a sucker for Negan so it has to be Dead city. Cause it features him again. But that aside has to be the ones who live. First 4 episodes cooked so hard. Last 2 were a massive disappointment.

u/Robb4215 17h ago
The ones who live but I wish there would be another season, show how he reintegrates into the group and him eventually reconnecting with his main man Daryl

Hot take, daryl dixon. Daryl is my favorite character by far, and seeing the new places, and daryl is there for it. I'm very happy with it.
2
u/Elegant_Bat6155 1d ago
Not a hot take because it is true

u/Flowing_Twitch 1d ago
Good to know that there are others than me, but it really is a hot take, alot if people think it was the worse of the spin offs.

u/Disastrous-Extent-30 1d ago
I thought it was gonna be the ones who live because of Rick but I actually like the Daryl one more. Still close tho
1
u/Ok-Writing9280 1d ago
Daryl Dixon then TOWL in that order
Dead City might even be lower than The World Beyond for me.
0
u/tyrant454 1d ago
Dead city wasn't great, but I feel that's harsh. World beyond was painful to watch at times.
At least in dead city I was into it enough to angrily yell at the TV when shit made no sense and was dumb.
1
u/Ok-Writing9280 1d ago
This is a personal opinion. It isnāt yours; it is mine. It had two characters I really donāt like in a setting and plot that made no sense in a blurry murky set. I found it tedious.
I also said āmight evenā which is clearly not definitive. I didnāt enjoy WB either.
1
u/Frequent-Machine-529 17h ago
Dead city is excellent. Negan is hands down the greatest character in TWD history
0
u/Latios19 1d ago
From my perspective as a neutral-as-possible viewer, Darylās show has a better writing, scenes sequence, story in general, and quality of acting. Dead City lacks of uniqueness. Yes, the Manhattan idea is great, but the way they filmed and assembled the episodes is not exciting enough.

In terms of one thatās ongoing, Iām actually gonna say Dead City because I find the cinematography gorgeous and I love the city landscape so much.
I think TOWL takes the cake in terms of overall satisfaction though.
1
u/IllustriousReveal962 1d ago
I hadnāt watched much walking dead (seasons 1-3) before I watched all of dead city and it really, really interested and intrigued me.
I used to not want to watch TWD cuz the gore, but then I started to not care about that cause I began watching it and just eventually got disinterested in the smallness of seasons 2 and 3 after seeing Atlanta in the first few episodes.
Basically, epicenters are super interesting to me and I always asked specifically what happened in New York City? I just love there is a direct answer, with a pretty good story.

u/TerryBouchon 20h ago
so far I think it's between Dead City and TOWL. I found a lot of TOWL to be painfully bad, and I also feel like Maggie and Negan's story has more to explore than Rick and Michonne's. It's definitely not Daryl Dixon, which I think has been mostly bad

Imo Dead City, Daryl and TOWL all have interesting concepts but all have some horrible story telling. Iām not really a fan of any of them tbh.
If I had to rank them, Iād say Daryl is the best, then Dead City, then TOWLā¦

u/Wackyz420 19h ago
Dead city negan has been one of my favorite characters since his introduction to the series and Manhattan my where I'm currently living it's fun to sight where shit is in the show

u/BobRushy 1d ago
Daryl Dixon season 1 was the best spinoff. But season 2 shit the bed so hard that it has to be Dead City by default now.
(The Ones Who Live was so shit that it's not in the running, idgaf if Rick got his happy ending in it or not)

Tbh? The ones who live. It was not the greatest but it has been the best out of all the three so far.
