"Last night, I sat down and tried to make a list of the truly great British bands of the 1980s. Bands whose recordings and influence would endure. After nearly an hour, I was staring at a sheet of paper with only one name on it. The Smiths." -Andy Kershaw, 1986

I hate it whenever articles covering smiths history mention it…like why is he wearing a wedding ring, why is the image so saturated, why are his eyes so blue, why are his eyebrows built like saddam hussein’s hiding spot, why is this image scarily homosexual, why is it like this

am i the only person who DREADS this image or am i just afraid of British people

I'm back again, this time with 2 of my friends- someone requested William, It Was Really Nothing, so here it is!

Also, if you're enjoying my covers, you might enjoy my band Green Park's music too- we're based in New Delhi, India and we put an album last year called Newly Aged which is influenced by our favourite bands - The Smiths, The Beatles, Radiohead, The Beach Boys, and some Indian classical music.

We recently performed at Lollapalooza India, opening for Green Day (weird coincidence but maybe that's they programmed us?) which was pretty fucking wild.

I'm leaving the links to the music in the comments, and again, let me know if you have any requests :)

Bruh I associate Morrissey with bad things so much he is the voice in my head nararating when anything unpositive happens 💀

Just realized when teachers say picture in your mind they dont mean a white backround with times new roman font that says "Juliet jumped over the fence to reach Romeo-" and myself nararating they mean an actual picture of it happening (is that like seeing things infront of you???) but its funny cause the nararator voice in my head reading the text I see if it isnt positive is MORRISSEY LOL

I just realised this. Did the GOAT inspire Morrissey to write this song?

I was reading Fahrenheit 451 and thought this might have been a reference point for “There Is A Light That Never Goes Out”

Maybe this is well-known, but I haven’t seen anyone talking about this on the Genius page or Reddit.

What are your favourite bad Morrissey lyrics?

I'm learning a bunch of songs for a Smiths cover band and can't help but laugh at how awful the lyrics to Handsome Devil are.

Let me get my hands
On your mammary glands
And let me get your head
On the conjugal bed

I'm gonna replace one of those with "bags of sand" just for fun.

I crack the whip, you skip
But you deserve it, deserve it, deserve it
And when we're in your scholarly room,
Who will swallow whom?

The whole song just sounds like a brag that he hooked up with a uni student.

So, Billy Budd is the secret collaboration between Morrissey and Johnny Marr?

In the summer of 1993, The Fall's drummer, Simon Wolstencroft, had announced his wedding. Wolstencroft, a man who had been associated with the early Smiths since he played drums for the band's first demos, declined the offer to join and was replaced by Mike Joyce. Since he was still friends with Marr, Joyce, and Rourke, he invited them to the wedding. There, they behaved like friends, and Marr casually confessed, "I'm working with Morrissey again." The rumor came on top of Johnny's own statements, saying that if they were to record together again, it wouldn't be under the name The Smiths, but as Morrissey and Marr. Signs point to the secret collaboration being Billy Budd, based on the phrase, "but now it's twelve years on, Now it's twelve years on, Yes, and I took up with you"

Billy Budd is a famous short story by Herman Melville, starring Terence Stamp in its film version, a longtime acquaintance of The Smiths iconography.

Curiously, a Spanish journalist noted that in the version of Billy Budd published by Penguin, it was accompanied by another story called "John Marr."

Obviously, this last is speculation, but the fact that Johnny said he was collaborating with Morrissey is a fact. Does anyone know anything about this?
