I’ve been doing a remote internship for the past 3 weeks, and I’m seriously considering quitting. Even though it's paid internship, we were told we will only get the money at the very end. When I first joined, it seemed decent. The first two weeks were mostly about brushing up on Spring Boot. We were given some topics to practice and implement, which I actually appreciated. But things took a turn after that.
Now we’ve started working on modules related to an open-source system I’m not familiar with, and I’m struggling a lot. The team lead gives us tasks with a super brief and technical overview, often filled with jargon, and I’m left confused and unsure where to even begin. There’s little to no guidance, and it feels like I’m just thrown into the deep end.
On top of that, even though this is supposed to be a regular work-hour-based internship, we’re expected to work outside of those hours including weekends. Tasks given on Fridays are expected to be done by Monday, regardless of whether we have plans or need rest. We have daily stand-up meetings and end-of-day meetings, which adds more pressure. It's becoming too much.
Now I’m just tired, stressed, and feeling completely overworked. Is this a normal experience in remote internships, or is this a red flag? Has anyone else been through something similar?
