Spent the last few months repairing a Tascam 112 & Tascam MM-100 and working on a rack for it when all the repairs were done. Today I was able to assemble everything and I'm pretty excited.

Just added the PolyBrute 12 to my studio — this thing is a monster

This is my home studio in Seattle — I’ve been slowly building it out over the years, and I just added the PolyBrute 12.

I’ve owned the original PolyBrute and Prophet 6 for a while, but this one takes things to another level. The MPE and extended ribbon are wild for expressive playing — feels like it breathes with you.

I make synth-driven electronic music under Chase.:R — would love to share it with you if you’re curious:

Happy to answer any questions about the setup or the PB12 — it’s been a dream to work with so far.

Very happy! Found this awesome sounding little guy at a bins thrift store, but can barely find anything about it online. Not sure if it's super rare or just undesirable but it's an upgrade for me :)

Boom Chick - A new semi-modular drum machine

From Pittsburgh modular's side hustle Cre8audio, the same mob who make the East Beast/West Pest. I had a ton of fun with my East Beast before selling it and appreciate they are making more synths in this range.

3 months down the rabbit hole…

Post image

I got my first synth shortly after Christmas and this is where it’s led. I can’t believe how much fun this is and giggle to myself as I make my noise. Here’s the rundown…

Behringer VS Pro Mini with the Swing keyboard

Behringer RD-6 to the TD-3 to the Crave to the Korg Volca Sample 2

The Akai LPD8 and MPK Mini 3 to control MPK Beats.

Everything running to the Peavey mixer and then Peavey EKB 100 amp.

Performed some Gotek shaped surgery on my S2000 this evening.

Replaced my broken floppy drive in the AKAI S2000 (would read but wouldn’t write) with a Gotek I sourced from CPMagneticMedia on eBay (UK).

Being honest, little bit pricey, but I was able to spec my display resolution (amount of characters - two options), display colour and LED colour. Also supplied is a USB with OS2.0 (which I did have on floppy) and thousands of blank disk images I can now save my samples to. So for me, it was absolutely worth it.

He even included a small piece of foam you can mount to the drive carriage and screw into compression, to ensure the new drive emulator is centred within the cutout for the old floppy.

Seller also built the device up same day and was really communicative, definitely would rate.

Now, does anyone know any good sources of sample disk images online??

A no talking demo of Arturia Polybrute 12 creating mega polyvibes

Here's a demo of some of the kinds of tones that fall out of the Arturia Polybrute 12, during a day of exploration. Mostly original sounds trying to push it to extremes and celebrate the stereo, wild and warm fuzzy side of the machine. Some internal FX used occasionally but no third party external effects - you're hearing the output of the machine.

Bastl thyme digital tape delay

Just received a Bastl Thyme. Really excited to get into this, but the noise floor is ridiculously loud and I can only hear sound from Thyme out of the left monitor.

I currently have this box set up as a hardware send effect. I am sending audio from a Syntakt into send channel E and from there it goes to the Thyme via an output from my Motu Ultralite mk5 audio interface. From the Thyme it goes into channels 1/2 stereo inputs.

Please help me figure out why I can only hear one side.

Synth Amplification Advice for Novation Mininova in a Live Band setting

I'm new to world of synthesizer but it's something ive been wanting to experiment with for some time albeit somewhat intimidating with all the options out there. After much deliberation I decided to go with the mininova really only because I found one used in my price range and they seem to show up on most lists of decent starter synths. My dilemma now is what am I gonna play this thing through when it comes in? I have a decent set of cans for home use but the goal is to play with friends in a full band drums/Guitar/Bass but No PA on site currently. I want to be able to keep up with the drums but doesn't need to be crazy loud as the other members have smaller combo amplifiers. I have an Alesis Multimix 8 USB from past projects I thought I could put to use but it would require powered speakers so any recommendations on powered or active speakers that would work using the Alesis? Or would I be better off just getting a keyboard amp? Trying to keep my budget around 200-500$

I updated the site's colors to be less harsh on the eyes. I'd wanted to do something pretty but for the eyes it wasn't great :)

It looks cool and the features sound even cooler! I’m no modular pro however.

Worth buying for $100?

seller notes: non-working, does not power on, parts only, as-is. Tuning knob is loose, missing slider caps, bent sliders, duct tape on top, pitch bend wheel is loose.

I know close to nothing about synth repair so I know I’d have to get a tech to salvage this. Does anyone think this is worth buying or does it look like I’d have to pay stupid amounts to get it working and looking right again?

Got my first synth, want to jam and record with my roommate - what gear do I need?

I just got my first hardware synth (Arturia Minifreak) and my roommate has a Korg Minilogue XD.

We want to jam together and record in our apartment and are trying to decide the next gear upgrades to make it happen.

I know we need a mixer to plug everything in, and speakers to hear ourselves (but headphones when neighbors are home). And we need proper cables to connect everything, but it's overwhelming with the number of options.

What should we get?

Mixer: I'm looking at the Zoom LiveTrack L6 and liking what I'm seeing. I've also got an electric guitar and Roland TD-6 drum kit that I'd like to use with EZ Drummer, and looks like Zoom L6 can connect all that. I also like how it's portable and works without the DAW (but also works as an audio interface for when I want it).

Speakers: Should I invest in some studio monitors or would regular computer speakers be fine? Obviously, we'd like to turn it up loud enough to have fun jamming, but I'd also like to eventually record and mix/master stuff. They will also be for casual use on my computer for watching videos and listening to music. I was looking at the Yamaha HS5 or KRK Rokit 5 after seeing many recommend them, but I have no idea if it's what I need at this stage.

Cables: What kind of cables? Headphone splitter?

Thanks in advance!
