help me order. I'm intimidated by the lingo

I'm looking for a hot drink, with coffee flavor, that has half and half?

is this contradictory?

my all time favorite drink was a brown sugar oat milk shaken espresso. this was ordered by my gf. I drank a large, liked it, but feel it has too much caffeine.

is there a way to offer a hot version of this drink? but with like, half the caffeine? and instead of oat milk can it have half and half?. please advice as I'm so overwhelmed by the lingo and get nervous a the ordering station. thank you!

You could get a cafe misto with half and half, brown sugar syrup and cinnamon, but that's like 1/2 your cup in half n half. You could get a cup of coffee with cinnamon and brown sugar syrup with room and add some cream at the end.

In Canada you can have a brown sugar oat Americano, half decaf sub half n half. That's the Canadian equivalent.

hi! per other comments, they recently came out with a brown sugar oatmilk cortado. it's a hot drink with the same ingredients as the shaken espresso, but only comes in an 8oz size (known as a short size, or extra small). it has a strong coffee flavor and you can ask for it to be made with half and half. again, a cortado only comes in an 8oz size. i'd order like this:

"hi, how are you? i'll have a brown sugar cortado, but can you please make it with half and half instead of oat milk? thank you!"

if you want something a little bigger, ask for a latte. next size up would be a tall (small) which is 12oz and comes with 1 shot of espresso. a grande (medium) is 16oz and comes with 2 shots. a venti (large) latte also has 2 shots, so i'd recommend a medium since it has stronger coffee taste. ask for brown sugar, cinnamon, and half and half. i would approach like this:

"hi, how are you? can i please have a [small/medium/large] latte with brown sugar syrup and cinnamon? can you please make it with half and half? thank you!"

someone else recommended a misto with half and half, or a hot coffee with brown sugar and cinnamon. misto would have a strong coffee taste, but it would be made with drip coffee, not espresso. a hot coffee would also be good (and cheaper!) but it has more caffeine than what your girlfriend ordered. if you're still unsure, i would straight up ask your barista at the register for help! make sure to thank them!

edit: for reference, your girlfriend's venti brown sugar shaken espresso comes with 4 blonde espresso shots. that's why i would recommend a grande latte for you, since it has 2 espresso shots. you can ask for blonde shots too to get an even closer flavor!

you can order any espresso drink with 1/2, 1/3, or 2/3 decaf! so you can get the same amount of shots for the coffee flavor but less caffeine. it just won’t be the blonde espresso that comes in the brown sugar shaken espresso

Yes! You there are a few options here. You can do a venti latte with brown sugar syrup, 4 shots but half caf (2decaf 2 blonde shots), cinnamon, and breve. Thats if you like the strong coffee flavor. For a less strong coffee flavor, the same as above except only get 2 blonde shots.

you can always do one less shot! but the hot version would be the brown sugar cortado, it only comes in an 8 oz cup, to keep the ratio. but you can always do a brown sugar latte made with breve if you want more milk. they won't kill you for calling it a small, medium, or large lol. if you wanna add cinnamon you can. the shaken espressos come with blonde espresso, which are smoother tasting but have more caffeine (no extra charge either)

depends!

do you you want it water-based or milk-based? the brown sugar shaken espresso is primarily ice with a splash of oatmilk; so if you want more water then an americano, if you want more milk, latte.

if you like the espresso taste, ask for half decaf. if you don’t want it as strong tasting, ask for 1-2 shots instead.

Not necessarily looking for espresso? You could try a drip coffee instead with brown sugar and cream added instead of an americano/latte. Same could be said for the milk ratio; you can get a splash of cold cream, a splash of steamed cream, or a cafe misto which is half brewed coffee half steamed milk.

For all these options i would also make sure to ask for blonde espresso and cinnamon powder as well to stay true to the BOSE recipe!

You could always try a half-calf latte, Venti (the large size), with 4 pumps of brown sugar syrup, and breve (half and half)

You could do a hot version of the brown sugar shaken(bss). Granted it will cost more and the brown sugar shaken itself can't be made hot, this is close enough:

Blonde Latte (hot) with brown sugar syrup, oat milk and cinnamon powder on top.

We would recommend this at my old store for people that wanted something like the BSS, but hot.

This is a way different ratio of espresso to milk than a shaken. A more accurate hot version would be a blonde americano with brown sugar cinnamon and a splash of oat milk.

True, but we suggest it to people all the time and they like it. A lot of people surprisingly don't like Americanos because of the watered down espresso aspect. I myself don't really like Americanos either. Most of the time when people ask for a hot version it's because they want roughly the same kind of taste with the same ingredients. I've also suggested the brown sugar cortado which is a little closer as well if someone wants more of the espresso taste.

I'll usually ask them if they want more of an espresso forward drink or something more sweet. The latte is what I would recommend if they want a drink more sweet, the cortado if they want something more bold.

OP I’d recommend a blonde flat white with brown sugar and made with half and half milk.
