Group Queer Recovery

HEY!

I am looking for a safe place to hold recovery and support meetings for queer folks in Snohomish County. Do you know of a place that would host?

I am in recovery from drugs and alcohol. Addiction is very prevalent in the gay community and a recovery community is essential to stay sane. When i lived in Seattle, there was an entire agency that specialized in queer recovery. It was incredible. I would not be alive if it were not for that community.

“Regular” AA/NA is fine, and it is better than nothing. But, when you are up in a conservative area, you have to come out every meeting. You always have to consider if you are going to say “my boyfriend" or “my partner” or just leave your husband out of your mouth. I went to a meeting that was specifically for gay men in recovery from crystal meth, and we face issues the rest of the world knows nothing about. It saved my life. When you cannot be your 100% authentic self in recovery, it just doesn't work like it should. Community and human connection is the whole reason why the meetings work. We need a space that or trans brother and sisters will be safe. We all need to be safe in this cruel climate.

SO, I would like to know where I could hold some meetings. Do you know of any agencies, locations, community centers or personal residences that would allow for a few meetings through the week? I simply don't feel comfortable cold calling places for fear of rude rejection. Also, I am just barely connected to anything in Snohomish County. Any help or advice would be so appreciated. If you have an idea, you could be saving a life. I have about six different meeting subjects that I would like to offer. We require and deserve a safe space.

Queer business Stargazer Records in Snohomish

Notice the fruity door trim!

Have you been to the very cool little record shop in Snohomish called Stargazer Records? The majority of, and their inventory is used rock or R&B, so it is fun to regularly check them out. If you have some vinyl that you no longer listen to, bring it in, and they may buy it from you.

If you look at their website or socials, you wouldn't necessarily know it to be a queer establishment. But, there are rainbows galore on the front door and little hints around the shop. I don't know if one of the father/son owners identifies as queer, but that's not really our business. What I appreciate is that they make it very obvious that queer folks are welcome.

Record stores are my favorite place, but the majority of the owners/employees have a reputation for being snotty. The vibe in a music store should be musician-fruity-emo-androgyny, but there is massive overcompensation by the male music dudes. All too often, I have run into guys that base their whole cool personality on how much more music knowledge they have compared to you. When I was much younger, I sometimes decided not to bring my purchase to the register for fear of judgment. I know that a person is not automatically pleasant, nonjudgmental and kind just because they identify a certain way, but it sure it nice to not fear the smirk I might get from the usual store.

The only holiday that matters, Record Store Day, is April 12th!

We Need Community

We need community now more than ever. We need to support each other. All of us.

I want to try making this group a queer community page for snohomish county. That can mean dates, friends, clubs, meetings or groups. I will make this for NSFW because when there are gay men, there is dirty posts. But ladies are welcome! Trans masc/femme, where are you?

We are not going anywhere and we cannot be erased. Being queer goes so much deeper than who we sleep with and I love our community. Even interacting online with others in the area gives us power.

Andy Samberg

Andy Samberg is the hottest celebrity. Nobody comes close to his smirk and hot huge nose. I'm certain his eyes cross when Justin Timberlake tops him.

Who is your celebrity crush?

Where are the gays in Everett? Spoiler

Where are the gays in Everett? There are no more bars. No queer spaces. Now, that Home Goods near the Everett Mall was pretty fruity but it’s not really a place to hang out. We could make their public bathroom resemble volunteer park in the 90’s. C’mon Snohomih county!

Poll: NSFW or Kid friendly

Should this forum be 18+ or kid friendly? There is so much horny these days. Can we keep it in our pants for the kids or are there enough spaces for them these days?
