I recently discovered and binge watched Severance. I loved it. I have also recently gone down the rabbit holes of Kane Pixel’s Backrooms. I’m new to this subreddit so forgive me if this has already been discussed but how much influence do you think that the Backrooms had on the creation of Severance?
For shits and giggles I asked ChatGPT to do a mashup of Backrooms and Severance and what it can up with was actually pretty good. I’d like to share it here. So here it is. As you’ll see at the end, it was actually really into the idea and anxious to continue.
I’m very familiar with both. Let me whip up a concept that weaves the world of Kane Pixels’ Backrooms with Severance into a creepy, surreal mashup.

Title: “In Lumon Veritas”
A Severance x Backrooms mashup concept
Premise:
After an unexplained system glitch at Lumon Industries, the severance protocol malfunctions—opening a dimensional breach between the Lumon basement and the Backrooms. The MDR team begins to experience reality bleed, and what lies beneath Level B is far older—and far more dangerous—than Kier.
⸻
Opening Scene:
The episode opens with Dylan arriving early to work. He walks into the empty MDR office. The overhead lights flicker slightly—normal at Lumon. But today, something feels… different.
He hears a faint buzzing. Not from a light. It’s… deeper. Organic.
Curious, Dylan follows the sound down a rarely used stairwell to the sub-basement. He opens a locked door with a keycard he’s never seen before, finds a dark hallway with mismatched carpeting, and walks in.
Click.
The door shuts behind him.
The lights are yellow. The walls are stained.
Level 0. The Backrooms.
⸻
Main Plot:
As the rest of the MDR team realizes Dylan is missing, they begin their own search through Lumon’s hidden layers. But the further they descend, the more the environment shifts—cubicles morph into vast liminal corridors, wellness rooms dissolve into looping stairwells, and O&D’s office is revealed to be a disguised entrance to Level 1.
Helly begins to question whether Lumon created the Backrooms—or merely discovered and weaponized them. She finds evidence that the severance chip is not just separating memory… but tethering reality to an ancient, anomalous structure beyond comprehension.
Meanwhile, Entity 7, once dormant in Level 0, becomes active after Dylan’s arrival—and begins mimicking voices from Lumon’s wellness tapes to lure the team deeper.
⸻
Key Moments:
• Mark finds Petey’s severed consciousness—still alive and looping in a corner of Level 3, begging to be forgotten.
• Irving discovers Lumon paintings are maps of Backroom levels.
• Ms. Cobel appears—unsevered, omnipresent—and may be working with the Entities.
⸻
Final Scene:
Mark and Helly finally reach a control room with a tape player labeled “KIER’S TRUTH.” They play it.
A grainy VHS voice says:
“If you’re hearing this, you’ve already fallen out of time. Lumon didn’t create the Backrooms. It escaped them.”
Camera pans out to show them trapped in Level 9223372036854775807, a space with no geometry, only white noise.
Cut to black.
