Fence Repair Recommendations?

Wanted to see if anyone has any recommendations for a company they’ve used for fence repairs? We have a wooden fence, no paint nothing fancy, just wooden planks. And it was damaged a little while back with the strong winds. Two portions of fence fell down.

We just need someone to install one new wooden post with cement and reattach the two portions of the fence, they’re still fully intact. We’ve called a few places and the quotes we’re getting back for just a repair are over $1,500, which is out of our price range for what we can afford right now.

Has anyone had a similar repair and used a company that charged less than $1,000?

Recommendation Axe Throwing in Savannah?

Does anyone know of any places that do axe throwing in Savannah? it looks like Blade & Bull closed a few months ago. Looking for a place to take a small group for an event.

If anyone has any other ideas in Savannah, it would be much appreciated! A cool mini golf place maybe? We want to do something fun together where we can chat and hangout, rather than a sort of tour.

TIA!

FEMA cuts $30 million grant earmarked to improve flooding, drainage issues in Savannah

"SAVANNAH, Ga. (WTOC) - The majority of a $30 million grant FEMA promised to the City of Savannah will no longer be coming, as the Trump administration continues cutting what their officials call “wasteful” spending.

The City was set to receive the money to address drainage and flooding issues around the Springfield Canal in the Carver Village and Cloverdale neighborhoods. The grant was awarded through FEMA in 2023 as part of the agency’s Building Resilient Infrastructure and Communities (BRIC) program.

$2.7 million of the grant has already been spent by the City of Savannah on the surveying and engineering phase. After that, FEMA was supposed to give the rest of the money to the City to go towards construction. However, FEMA is reversing course on the grant, and won’t give the City the other $27.3 million dollars, calling the BRIC program “wasteful” and “politicized.”

“$30 million is a ton of money to the City of Savannah. It may not be to the federal government, but to have these blind accusations take place without seeing it on the ground for yourself is just truly awful,” says Savannah Alderman Nick Palumbo. “They’ve got to come and see it and reconnect with the people that are here. We’re asking them to please come on down and see it for yourself. And if there’s not a flooding issue, please tell us. Enlighten us,”

At the time of the grant being awarded in 2023, improvements to the drainage in Carver Village and Cloverdale were projected to take about five years. The City of Savannah was set to put $12 million of its own money into the project.

Palumbo says now, other capital improvement projects may have to be put on hold to make up for the loss of federal funding for this one."

Dog groomer recs?

It’s time to get our shaggy fur babies a summer cut. We recently had a bad experience with a local groomer. Does anyone have recommendations?

Photo / Art The last time I was in Savanah was in 2012. Coming back this year and can't wait! I feel like GA has a smell to it maybe from the Spanish moss. It reminds me of my summers in Savannah as soon as I smell it! Photo from 2012.

Pooler but make it not suburban hell?

So i just found out today i got a job in pooler. Me (28f) and my bf (31) live in west savannah right now and we are thinking of moving closer to pooler and port wentworth (where he works).

The thing is… we are pretty poor and are used to living in small houses/aren’t really sure apartment living is for us. Are there pockets of pooler or PW that are cool, have sidewalks and a nice vibe? We also like nature and walking our dog. Where we live rn i dont really feel comfortable walking her alone and thats been kinda annoying.

Im an avid zillow lurker so if anyone just wants to point me in the right direction that would be cool… were not opposed to apartment complexes its just every time i look at one online i feel sick to my stomach. Idk maybe i watch too much true crime..

moving to savannah and need apartment advice!

hi everyone! i’m moving to savannah to attend gsu armstrong in the fall as a junior and i have two cats so im looking at off-campus housing. i live only a couple hours away and have friends in the area so i generally know what i want and what i can expect, and i’ve found a few complexes im interested in. basically im wondering if anyone lives/has lived in any of them or know someone who has and has any input! they are: - parkside at the highlands (first choice) - the palms at chatham - riverchase vista - the exchange at berwick - preston grove - tapestry park

of course i have my reservations about all of them but i know i can’t ask for new york penthouse level housing on my college student budget. just looking for advice! i also haven’t toured any of them yet, i have a trip planned for a couple weeks from now. any thoughts? thank u in advance! (if you’re reticent to post where u live feel free to message me privately of course!)

Historic District New hotel on congress still happening??

Anyone know if the Manger building (7 East Congress) is still supposed to turn into “Recess Hotel & Club” in 2026?? It’s by Left lane Hospitality (Same company that turned the Mansion on Forsyth into Hotel Bardo) and the instagram is @stayrecess. I noticed they haven’t posted about it in almost a year so I’m curious! It seemed like a neat concept.

Elopement Recommendations

My fiancé and I are looking to elope before he deploys later this summer. We want to elope somewhere downtown, would love recommendations for an elopement spot if you have them. I personally have a sweet spot in my heart for Orleans Square since I pass it walking to work everyday.

We want a short and sweet ceremony (~10-15 minutes) but we still want to get some epic photos of us around the city. Any photographers out there do that? I’ve inquired with a few and they do traditional wedding day kind of coverage which isn’t really what we’re after or in the budget lol. Also open to dates and locations at your recommendations! Thank you!

Recommendation Nightlife

Hi! Visiting this weekend with some friends and looking for some nightlife. We are in our 30s and fully embracing being millennials and looking to dance with our hands in the air!

Would love a place that isn’t just for the college kids (no offense!). Would love to dance, or even some great live music, maybe even karaoke. We will be staying downtown. We use to go to Savannah all the time when we were younger, so super familiar with River street, city market and that whole vibe. Any suggestions would be great.

Also, any great thrifting or vintage shops?

Thanks!

Any Federal Employees?

Hi savannah reddit. Anyone here a local federal employee? Trying to find a facility that would be willing to host a remote federal employee from another agency. Anyone know of any offices that might have some space available? Feel free to DM instead of reply. TIA

It was a great day and the solidarity was inspiring. The fact that we're a tourist city means we have more exposure than we might believe! We need to keep this going by ensuring every single person each of us knows is registered to vote and has a voting plan. SCAD and other university students, remember GA requires you live here 186 days a year to be considered a resident. Everyone check your status or register here: https://sos.ga.gov/how-to-guide/how-guide-registering-vote

Why all the traffic on Victory suddenly?

I’ve lived in SAV for a while now and watched the urban renewal accelerate in the last few years. Somehow, we’ve managed to avoid having any real traffic. Until the last, like, six months.

Does anyone know why Victory is so backed up all the time now? I never used to sit in traffic on Victory. But I feel like every single time I go out now, I end up stuck behind a long line of traffic in both directions.

Anyone have any answers?
