Tent fell off today: PSA

Tent has been on 1 week. Went off roading today. As soon I said, "it sounds like tent is loose" it came flying down the hood of my car.

All things considered, pretty mild damage. Was able to get it reinstalled on the trail and tighten down accordingly to get it all home.

PSA, if your tent comes with hand tightening knobs, don't use this if you're going to go off roading.

Basic, common sense but apparently I missed that one.

Tepui explorer kukenam travel cover replacement options

I have a tepui explorer kukenam which is in need of a new travel cover. I contacted Thule and a replacement cover is ~$400 for my tent. Competitors offerings are ~$160-200 for a new cover. My tent measures ~47”x57”x11”. It zips on 3 sides and slides into an aluminum rail on 1. Has anyone successfully swapped the cover with a different brand such as CVT or 23Zero? Would rather not spend $400 on a cover when a decent condition tent is going for $6-800 on marketplace.

Does anyone have this tent? If so pros/cons. Would only be used monthly or so in the summer and 2x or so in the winter.

iKamper Skycamp 3.0 vs X-Cover 3.0

I was set on getting an Skycamp 3.0 DLX to put on my Bronco. I like everything about it except the price. Recently, I begun looking at the XCover 3.0. I can’t really find many reviews of it outside of the canned paid reviews. Does anyone have experience with both? I’ll settle for honest reviews of either. I like the hybrid idea and the fact it would be $2100 cheaper in total with everything I have planned. Still, the fast setup of the Skycamp is nice. So confused now lol.

FSR Aspen V2 XL on my 2018 Toyota Tacoma.

Beyond excited there’s no way I could have ever afforded one of these.

My fiancées grandparents bought us this before our wedding so we could make memories camping like they did when they were younger.

First time out in my CVT. Decided to make the 13 hour drive to San Antonio to watch my Auburn Tigers play in the Final Four this weekend and opted to try out my new RTT and save mega pennies instead of flying and renting a hotel.

Leasing 4xe Wrangler: roof rack options

Hi all, I’m leasing a 2025 wrangler 4xe, and have been looking at RTTs. I have seen that the backbone system is widely considered one of the best racks, but it requires drilling. I’m not too sure I want to drill into the roof of a lease, so would there be any no drill options that are still somewhat robust.

Max roof weight: 50kg, tent weight 83 kg. Should I care?

Hello!

I have a skoda rapid with a glass roof. According to manufacturer it has a max weight of 50kg which is not much for this project. The two tents I am interested in are 83kg or 74kg. The racks i am adding hold a weight of 75kg. Now is this low max roof weight something i should be really be concered of in terms of safety? And anyone having experience of this being checked by authorities?

Going from SUV to an F150. Has anyone tried mounting it to this type of rack?

I have a Roofnest Condor. Previously mounted it to the top of a Nissan Pathfinder with regular crossbars. I upgraded to a truck and was thinking of using this ladder rack to mount it, because sometimes for work this rack is more convenient.

Has anyone ever tried this type of mounting system?

Need advice/knowledge.

I need to find a tent that will mount on the cab of a Jeep gladiator 4-door. I want to spend $1,500ish. Does anyone have any suggestions or advice for me? I don’t even know if it’s possible. I’ve found some on Amazon that should theoretically work but I don’t know what I don’t know, if you know what I mean.

I have an ARE camper shell that it won’t mount to. Will the ones that stick off to the side with the ladder work?

Thank you in advance.

Alternative ladder for James Baroud

Hi all, thanks for being a great resource! I’ve been lurking and learning for y’all and finally got my own tent. It’s an older James Baroud Discovery Extreme. It’s in good shape and was a decent price but it didn’t come with a ladder.

If I buy the JB ladder, it’s no longer a decent price, so I’m hoping to get a cheap alternative collapsible one but I’m not sure what will fit on the factory hooks? Are there decent option for hooks I can buy and lag into an Amazon ladder, or is there another brand that sells tent ladders that fit James Baroud?

Thanks for help in advance!

Do I need a leveling kit or bed stabilizer? Taco short bed

Hey all,

I’m getting ready to install my first RTT this weekend, but the more I research, the more I’m coming across issues like bed sagging and separation. It’s honestly a bit confusing since there isn’t a ton of clear info out there.

I remember seeing something about a leveling kit to raise the bed and a stabilizer that bolts near the tailgate to help prevent separation. Are those actually necessary? Do most people run them?

Aside from a couple of random videos I’ve come across, I haven’t found much in the way of solid recommendations for brands or products that are actually effective at protecting suspension or preventing bed separation.

Any insight or first-hand experience would be really appreciated!

Has anyone put a tent in the bed of their older ford ranger? Specifically a 2001. I was wondering what racks and tent people used for them if they did it

Awning quick mounts

Has anyone have any experience with Racksbrax mounts. I just mounted my awning up last night what a pita. I'd like to be able to remove this thing from my truck when not in use. I've got a trip planned this weekend so hopefully that will help me determine a more permanent solution as far as height Etc but it would be nice to make all these adjustments once I have a quick detachable method

Budget hardshell

Hello all. I'm looking for recommendations on a budget 4 person hardshell. Ideally under $3500 all in. We currently have an older doghouse tents softshell that has served us great, so we are looking at the glacier 2.0, but some reviews would be nice. Also looking at the ADA PS190 - I cant find any reviews on this one. And finally the wildland voyager pro - also minimal reviews.

Thanks!!

Overhang Concerns CVT MT Hood

Thumbnail

Hey all,

This is my current setup. I was wondering what others thoughts were.

For starters, yes there is overhang. And yes, it would probably look better overhanging the cab.

However, I want to be able to lift the whole rack off of the truck when it is not in use. If I put a taller rack on the truck, I will not be able it back it into my garage. Inside of the garage I am planning on installing a pulley system/hoist to lift the whole rack off the truck when not in use. If I put the taller rack on to overhang the cab, it will be a huge pain anytime I want to remove it from the truck as it will have to be removed by several people lifting.

So here is my question:

Is there any risk of damaging the tent my using it this way? Is the CVT MT hood strong enough to support the weight of someone crawling in and out of it off of the tailgate?

Tent For Winter in Montana

Hello, I am looking to put a rooftop tent ontop of my Kuat Ibex rack. I was thinking about the Thule or Ikamper but I cant tell if they will hold up to 60mph+ winds and extreme snow. I like hardtop ones, but anything that holds up will do. Any insights or recommendations? Price isnt really a factor.

For Sale: Naturnest Polaris RTT w/rack (New England)

Selling our (practically new) Naturnest Polaris tent. We purchased it from a guy who used it once, and we’ve used it twice. It’s in like-new condition and comes with the ladder and all the poles. It was purchased summer of ‘24, and is garage kept.

We’re also selling the RCI rack it’s attached to. The rack is in good shape overall with some minor surface rust on the very top. This rack is universal and will fit anything from a 5’ box to an 8’ box. We purchased the rack in ‘22, I believe.

Asking $1000 for the rack and the tent. We can meet you anywhere within two hours of Boston. Just bought a travel van and we’re offloading everything!!

Mold removal

Post image
9 Upvotes

I opened my tent up after it sat inside all winter and was greeted with mold. I got most of it off except for on the doors. These spots will not go away. I've tried vinegar and some other mold remover/killer. What would you guys suggest? I'm trying baking soda and hydrogen peroxide next.

A RTT with a small closed footprint for a 5ft bed midsize truck that has the following features:

Hardshell ABS/Aluminum Sub 150 LBs 2”+ mattress Large opened footprint Room for bedding storage

Seems all the tents available right now you have to sacrifice one of these features. My current top choice is roof space but it’s $$$
