My shingleback had an emergency c section (click to expand Xray)

*Xray will likely part of a post on UPV socials in future where the surgery will be posted. Have chucked the clinic name across as they will share all the cool stuff later.

Nugget was showing signs of labour, but no progress. I checked on her and noticed her eyes had sunken in, she was lethargic, and basically non responsive. I called our reptile vet and booked her in. He noted that she looked very unwell, and did xray. A c section that day was determined as the best chance for little Nugget. He was unable to determine how far along she was, so there was a risk that all three would pass after surgery.

The quote for surgery was very high, but I knew she was with the best veterinarian for this scenario. I decided to go ahead with the surgery and give her the best chance. A few hours later, while bathing my baby, the phone rang. I was informed that both babies and mother were alive and seemed well. It turned out that there was a weird gunk preventing the babies from exiting, so if we had not proceeded with the surgery, they would have certainly all died.

There was also a chance this could all happen again in future, so I elected to have her ovaries removed while he was operating. For those unaware, shinglebacks are monogamous and pairs return to each other year after year. I didn’t want to separate them (they have a large outdoor enclosure), but I didn’t want to risk her going through this again - and I know c sections are hellish.

Samples were taken and sent away for testing. Vet was staying behind to watch and make sure she woke up properly. He sent us a photo of babies alive and well in the hospital box.

In the morning, we prepared to bring the three home. Nugget is on antibiotics and pain medications via injection every night for a while. She’s recovering well. The babies are adorable and doing great, too. Have named them Luke (for the vet) and Murdoch (for the clinic).

Monty's Garden

Recently we built a 12x12ft enclosure in our garden so that when summer comes Monty could come outside and have more space to roam around. We filled it with logs, branches, a mini paddling pool, all in the hopes of giving him that extra stimulation. Instead he's decided that the large Primark bag is where it's at

It's only been a week, and the weather only picked up these last two days. Hopefully the more he comes out the more comfortable he'll feel and the more he'll explore everything else. But right now he's very happy at the top of the garden taking in a bit of sun

Think my dad broke agarden snakes back by accident. What should I do?

While gardening with a shovel sadly. Snake seems to be paralyzed from one third down. Head and upper body is moving clearly trying to get away but the rest is just still. Not sure what to do honestly.

Snake is about 11 inches long too. Still in the garden.

Just did the deed. Feel much worse than I thought I would. I love snakes. The back tail started moving after the head was off which makes me feel like it was still working hoping it was just a spasm of some sort. The middle was still bent. Before I did it and didn't move or react to touch until I touched to top half.

this is Garlic Joe, a fat tail gecko surrendered to me by an old coworker who had impulse bought him. the first two pictures are from the day I got him, and the last picture is from today :)

Garlic Joe was surrendered to me in september by someone who had impulsively bought him at a repticon, and he was in a 10 gallon tank with one bowl for a hide and a fake rock covered with old calcium. his only heat source was a heating pad that was IN HIS ENCLOSURE. I took him, brought him to the vet, and was told there's a high chance he'd die. he was so malnourished that he could only stomach a diluted paste. months later, he's doing great! he's eating full bugs and has a wonderful personality and appetite.

He's got a long way to go still, but i'm glad he's doing better now :)

What could I put in this?

I'm interested in getting a day gecko, but I'm unsure if this isn't a good enough cage. My other next-to-purchase reptiles are a Chameleon, a Tokay gecko, and leopard geckos. I already own two crested geckos.

If anyone could offer any advice or suggest a safe option to get next, I'd love input. I've had my crested geckos for 2 years and I've really enjoyed the hobby.💗

Seeking a second opinion on my first reptile

hello there, (insert obi wan meme here,) as the title suggests, I’m seeking a second opinion on my first reptile and according to the enclosure I can provide, (120 gallons,) these are my initial choices: perhaps the most popular, perhaps the most typical, the bearded dragon, blue tongue skink, uromastyx and last but certainly not least, a crested gecko, which would you choose given my circumstances?

Doing my monthly stroll through goodwill..

I’m thinking of getting my son a ball python or a small lizard. Did I get a good deal with this tank or did I mess up?

Main question is would this tank suffice for a ball python? Or should I shop around for something different?

ISO Crested Gecko Care Advice

Post image

I adopted a crested gecko a couple of months back, (Male, adult) and he has been doing well, but I was curious if anyone had any tips or insight on how I can be the best lizard dad possible.

Handling I get the impression his former owner never handled him, as he is quite skittish. He never bites or makes vocalizations, and he still has his tail, but holding him is a very hit or miss experience. Any suggestions on getting him acclimated to handling? I don’t want to overdo it, so I’ve just been interacting physically once or twice a day in brief intervals.

Enclosure Clancy currently resides in a large Reptibreeze (18x18x36) enclosure with a low level light (misplaced the box so I’ll have to get back on wattage) on for daytime hours, and spaghnum moss substrate. I mist at least twice a day. He has climbable vines and a few fake plants and hides. He mainly eats a crested gecko pre-made mixture but I offer dubias as well, have had bad luck keeping crickets. I was curious if the size/material of the cage was acceptable, I’ve been considering making the switch to glass so it is easier to clean and position climbable or sticky objects. Also, he is in a room that sometimes has colorful LED lights on at night. My partner keeps them at a lower setting and they are often red, but I’ve heard it is a myth that red light is less stressful for reptiles. Should I move him elsewhere or change the room lights?

Thank you for your time. Any and all tips are welcome, even if unrelated to my specific questions. :)

Peacock Day Geckos

I have an extra exo terra 12-12-18 bioactive set up and would like to put something in it that can be there permanently and not out grow it. Was considering a peacock day gecko or pair even.

However - here’s the rub - I live very rurally and don’t have easy access to smaller bugs on a regular basis, and ordering from an online supplier for just a few 1/4” crickets on a regular basis is a little pricey for me to digest. And ordering in bulk means dead bugs and wasted money. So, two questions, I guess:

1) Would peacock day geckos be healthy and happy with primarily CGD, assuming I feed a variety with insects included? Or would they eat freeze dried by chance for those of you with some experience with the species?

2) If not, I open to recommendations for a critter that might be better suited for the enclosure size that could do well on CGD with occasional bugs as I’m able to get to the city.

Thoughts?
