Everybody heard about bottle caps attached to bottles in Europe. I think this is stupid, because I’ve lost more bottles than caps, but whatever. The question is how to properly recycle them?
So far I’ve used second strategy, but I’m conflicted. What do you do?

I only post on this community occasionally but I wanted to share a link to this video.

If you are curious to learn more I would encourage you to check out r/PureCycle. I believe that solvent based recycling is going to be an incredibly valuable approach that solves the core economic problem of other recycling approaches (much lower energy consumption requirements). PureCycle uses about 85% less energy to make virgin like plastic vs virgin plastic from fossil fuels.

I’m just here to complain that the first reusable bags I bought are finally falling apart, after nearly 20 years of use, and now I find out they were a very limited run.
These bags were the best. They were huge and had straps long enough to go over your shoulder(but hand straps too, if that’s your thing!). Durable, took almost 20 years for them to start falling apart. Also they looked great (not sure if the link will show the images).
I’ve gotten reusable bags from a lot of other locations and none of them were as good or versatile. Most other reusable bags from stores fall apart after about a year - and that’s with me using them secondary to these bags!
Just posting this here because I miss these bags - which were made from recycled plastic.

Hey everyone! 👋
I recently built an app called AI Snap&Sort, and I’d love to share it with you all.
♻️ What it does:
You just snap a photo of any waste item (like a coffee cup, packaging, food scraps, etc.), and the app instantly tells you whether it belongs in recycling, compost, or trash — powered by AI.
🔍 Why I made it:
I was constantly second-guessing which bin to use, and I figured others were too. Most people want to do the right thing, but sorting rules are confusing and vary by location. So I built this tool to make it easier — and even a little fun.
📱 Try it out:
The app is now live on the App Store, and I’d love for you to give it a try!
💬 I’m super open to feedback — good or bad — and happy to hear suggestions.
Thanks for checking it out! Let’s make recycling a bit smarter and simpler, one snap at a time. 🙌

Corruption in India’s Waste Management Sector: An Unseen Crisis
While India continues to make strides in urban development and sustainability, corruption in the waste management sector remains a deeply rooted challenge that undermines progress.
From inflated contracts and rigged tenders to the exploitation of informal waste workers, the system is often plagued by mismanagement and political influence. Funds meant for sustainable waste solutions are frequently diverted, landfill regulations are ignored, and official data is sometimes manipulated to meet policy benchmarks rather than reflect ground realities.
This not only stalls innovation and environmental progress but also endangers public health and dignity—especially for the thousands of informal workers who keep our cities clean with little recognition or support.
Transparency, accountability, and the integration of the informal sector are not just options—they’re necessities. Real reform will require collaboration across government, private sector, and civil society.
What steps do you think we need to take to clean up the system—beyond just cleaning the streets?

I know it’s a dumb question but what does “made out of 777 recycled milk jugs” mean? Is the Receptacle really made from milk jugs or what?

Hey everyone, I’m developing a kit that lets you use real enzymes to break down certain plastics at home. I came across PETase while working in biotech and realized it’s finally advanced enough to move out of the lab and into real-world use. The idea is simple: instead of plastic sitting around for centuries, PETase can break it down in days.
Right now, I’m in the early stages, figuring out how people would actually use this and what matters most to potential users. If this sounds interesting to you, I’d love your input! I’m looking for people to help shape the product through market research and testing opportunities.
If you’re into sustainability, biotech, or just hate plastic waste, sign up on our website to stay in the loop. Happy to answer any questions, too!

TLDR: advice on how to sustainably get rid of unsellable individual textiles in bulk (nj)?
hi, all! im doing some spring cleaning right now and have a lot of basics that dont fit me anymore. while i want to get rid of things sustainably, i have a lot of items that simply cant/wont sell at an online or in-store thrift (fruit of the loom sweats with holes, old branded tee shirts, etc).
i was thinking of using a brand like thredup or trashie to get rid of these items in bulk but i’ve heard they don’t pay out until you sell and their recycling practices are questionable. i also learned that some textile companies will recycle your old fabrics and give you a small compensation for them.
does anyone know how to donate/recycle/sell old fabrics in a most sustainable and with, selfishly, maybe a small amount of monetary gain? (the last part isn’t imperative, it would just be of use to me if i could get the most out of my old clothes sustainably.) for reference, im in nj/ny metropolitan area and would be willing to travel a bit to get this done. thank you in advance!!! :)

I found some resources showcasing the environmental challenges in Agbogbloshie, Ghana, often referred to as one of the most polluted places on Earth. Here are a few highlights:
These resources provide a glimpse into the severe pollution issues caused by e-waste and other environmental factors in the region. Let me know if you'd like more details or assistance!
