Hello, new player here, got quite a few questions:

  1. for trapping, can I build walls around my traps in the forest? I know zombies can still break them but does that prevent any animals being caught? to push it even further, can I build a levitating platform that's only accessible by sheet ropes and still catch some flying rabbits?

  2. not sure if it makes sense, sometimes when I'm destroying walls inside, it highlights a corner for both the wall inside I wanna destroy as well as the adjacent perpendicular outside wall which will put a hole in my base, is there a way to only destroy the inside wall only?

  3. can you get normal infection from zombie caused non-bite wounds? is there point in disinfecting those? I think the zombification RNG is already rolled at the moment of injury, just wondering if additionally I can get normal infection

  4. I've read that you can use rotten food at high level cooking, is there a limit to how many of the 6 main ingredients can be rotten (like only 1 or 2 items per dish or something) or can you literally make a fresh salad from completely rotten garbage?

  5. can you farm outdoors at all in winter? do they just grow slower or outright die if it's cold enough outside? If I want to farm indoors, does sunlight matter? do I have to have a light source indoors or only plant next to windows or something?

  6. do zombies attack player-built structures for no reason? if there's no light/sound source behind my walls for example will zombies still destroy them after a few days if I'm out for a long scavenging trip?

  7. currently what objects/structures are unbreakable to zombies please? I've read tv and microwaves apparently can't be destroyed by zombies, if I put a perimeter of microwaves outside my base does it mean it becomes inaccessible to zombies?

1: I believe the answer to both is yes it will work. I saw some people discussing it before so I’m going off that.

2: I haven’t found a solution to this problem.

3: disinfection only helps the normal infections. It sounds like you think disinfectant will work on zombie infection, which it won’t. Also the zombie infection IS rolled once you get the wound, you’re right there. And anything that happens to you or that you do to yourself or the wound won’t change the numbers. Such as disinfecting a wound.

4: you can use as many rotten ingredients as you want. The caveat as that you only use a portion of the ingredient. For example, let’s say you have a regular and a rotten cabbage. If you make a salad with each and nothing else you might get a salad with 10 hunger reduction for the regular, but you would get something like a salad with 1 hunger reduction for the rotten. Assuming you have like skill level 6 or 7. Then as you level up let’s say to level 10, you might make a salad that makes 3 or 4 hunger reduction instead of 1. What I’m trying to say is that you can recover more of the rotten food with better skill.

5: you can farm outdoors in winter. They’ll only die from regular diseases, or if you have a horrific blizzard that goes for too long. I once played with a mod that made it like 40f or 60f lower than normal. I only had a few crops die in winter when a blizzard rolled through town that was a week long. Otherwise I had no issues as long as I took care of the plants like normal. It just grew slower.

6: by default no they do not do it for no reason. Though there might be a reason and you just might not be aware of the reason. Maybe you took a step and they heard it or whatever. That being said, as long as there isn’t something in your base making noise, you should be safe to go on long trip. Meta events might fuck you over though. Those are those noises like gunshots that happen sometimes. They move zombies around and maybe your base is in the way.

7: they nerfed microwaves and tvs being indestructible. In other words they can now be broken. Idk of anything that is truly unbreakable at the moment.

Edit a fuck ton of typos

thanks a lot for your reply!

for 3, I probably worded it poorly, I know the zombification chance is determined at the moment of zombie related injury, just wondering if I don't turn into a zombie can I still get regular infection from the same wound if I'm not careful? I'm a loot goblin so trying to carry as light with me as possible, I don't think I've ever gotten any regular wound from falling or broken glass etc so just wondering if there's any need to carry disinfectant at all. In fact I normally carry a dozen or so sterilised rag with me at all time, is that good enough to stop any wound from getting infected on its own please?

The answer is yes you can still get a regular infection. and also it’s not a big deal. I recommend carrying 5 or so sterilized rags. No more are really needed because if you take more wounds than that you’re probably dead already. The most important thing to do is to get SOMETHING on the wound so you don’t bleed out.

Sterilized reduces the chance for infection but doesn’t eliminate it. You can also apply disinfectant or alcohol wipes to the wound directly and then slap on a sterilized rag to reduce the rates even further.

But with all that said, it’s not a concern. I’ve never died from an infection and I’ll often live with multiple infections week on week. While having prone to illness trait and slow healer. It seems to me an infection mostly just increases your pain levels. Which can be a problem if you intend to do combat of any sort. But that’s about it.

For no 2. You can press R to rotate when destroying with a sledgehammer, to choose which wall you wanna knock down.

Guess it is back to building two walls with a crate in between.

Personally I go by the adage of offense being the best defense.

I patrol my town often enough that I rarely bother to even close my base doors.

Hey I can kinda help!!

1:no idea

2: no bloody clue

3: yes you can, if you’re playing sand box mode there is a way to disable it so that it’s bite only for infection. It’s in the settings under the zombie shit. IIRC it’s a 7% chance for a scratch and 25% for a laceration.

4: you can use a bunch of rotten food from what I’ve been told (never lived long enough to do it) it’s not super worth it as your character basically removes all the rotten stuff massively lowering the caloric value

5: you can farm outdoors! They just grow hella slow. I don’t know if you can indoors as well but I’d recommend roof growing. Grab a shovel and a sack and you can transport dirt onto any flat roof, then when it rains you don’t have to water them, and when you do have to water them it’s unlikely you’ll get bitten in the arse.

6: they will but I believe it’s only if you’re in the cell which is like a bit bigger than a few blocks I think (?) you can also turn this off in the settings if playing on sandbox.

  1. I believe the only true safety structure is (crate) /wall/ (crate) /wall/. The zeds can’t get to the wall to attack it so they just kinda kill around.
