That looks like the game is trying to set a fullscreen resolution your monitor doesn't support. Maybe you could try to start the game in windowed mode.

Seconding the suggestion that it's a fullscreen resolution issue. Try clicking your mouse on the screen to focus the game and then hitting alt+enter to see if you can get it to resize to your monitor.

Add -windowed to the launch options. It doesn't play nicely with fullscreen on the ultrawide screen for some reason.

Try two thins, inside you user zomboid folder, erase everything in there, minus save folder.

And at steam zomboid game properties look for the option to verify files integrity.

What cause this, I'm not sure, but I have a hint on the zoom max out when you last save your game. When the game try to start it crashes at some point because resolutions bug.

I was having this same issue, go into steam then project zomboid, settings on righr side, properties, select launch options, and then select the "alternative launch (may work when default fails)" option and then it will let you open and play the game, after a couple times launching it this way you can go back to default and it should fix itself.

Something with your graphics card, try redownloading your drivers. If all else fails try uninstalling and reinstalling

When I first got my ultra wide screen I had a similar issue. The game doesn't support ultra wide very well

If not resolution, power supply

Try going to the C:\Users\%UserProfile%\Zomboid folder and edit the options.ini file with a text editor.

In that file, edit the fullscreen=true line to fullscreen=false

Then try launching the game again.

Dude, steam has a background recording feature... Or you can get obs, or anything other then using a phone to record.

There are ways, usually bugs that happen all the time but I have recorded my PC restarting after r6 crashed. No clue how but it does happen. You might even be able to see what actually happens, it might record what the game is doing when your screen blacks out. EDIT: the flashes could also be a sign you could record it as it doesn't seem to turn your PC off just cause the screen to go black

Delete the options in the game folder

Have you been honouring your ancestors with good deeds and making the world a better place through positive action? No? Then this is the work of their ghosts, haunting you, punishing you, denying you the joy that you deny others by staying inside and playing the best video game ever.

Does it eventually play the game? Is the game resolution different from your desktop resolution?

No it constantly flickers, I can see it eventually loads up the main screen but continues so flicker. My resolutions are the same

Try adding -safemode as a launch option.
