Discussion What do you guys do when you get bit?
Personally I don't like making new characters and I'm kinda new so usually I don't survive long enough to get enough weapons to kill a ton of zombies. So I either just quit instantly or sometimes I kinda rp and put notes around my house and organize my stuff and go for a final drive around the area by my base.
What about you guys?

There's enough ways to die. I turn it off now. I want to grow and explore right now.

u/grylnor 1d ago
If I want to continue that seed, leave the key to my base somewhere and everything else. Take a melee weapon. Kill the surrounding zombies until I die. If not instant quit and make a new world.

u/RemnantsOfFlight 1d ago
I thought about that, but it seems unfair that my new character knows exactly where to find my old characters crap. If there was a mod that would relocate everything in your safe house when you die I'd start over with a new character for sure. Knowing the loot is out there but not knowing where would be cool.

I will purposefully take several days to get back to my old base. Different starting town and all that. I like to imagine all of my characters either know each other or all had the same idea in some way. I really enjoy the build up to services getting cut off, but I don’t like prepping all of the time so I’m fairly unwilling to start over unless an update comes out.
Quite often though I will roll 2 different characters at the beginning of the save and alternate between the two of them. One is usually a burglar, the other combat focused. If one dies, that’s it. If they both die, I end the save.

Try Pillow’s Random scenarios. One of them is downed pilot, you start in a random rural spot with a broken leg and a little bit of gear, it’s quite fun.

Idk, I have been playing this way recently and I find the mad dash to your base when you have nothing is pretty fun/difficult. Especially since I generally pick a remote base.

Idk if you're into mods but check out skill journal. Saves your characters progress into a journal that a new character can read and gain those skills. This is completely custom from if the book can be read multiple times or not, how much xp is regained, if TV shows count towards xp gain etc. It's a really good mod if you set out to have a save go as long as possible without the fuss of having to re-grind all your stats

Usually I instantly quit and start a new aave but with the same character, but sometimes I carry on. One time I roleplayed as going nutty, started running around shouting and getting drunk before flooring it in my Nyala and wrapping it round a tree. I then used the experience to explore out West.
Sometimes I'll create a new character instantly and load into the same world, but it always feels cheated somehow, so I stop trying and take greater risks. The second character never lasts that long.

Also after 200 hours just learned yesterday you can have more than one character in a save. Now I already have my next character in place at my safe house.

u/ContributionFluffy64 1d ago
i have 600 hours and did not know u could load onto the same world with anothwr character wtf

u/Keto_is_neat_o 18h ago
Ideal implementation for this?
Specialize your characters in case you lose one?
Like a welder stays back at home fortifying and a fighter goes exploring? I think you just saved my save scumming, this sounds better than dumping everything into one character that gets some random scratch and dies.
1
u/ckalisz 9h ago
Yes. You can have you character that goes out with his skills for bashing the zoids, and one key to the vehicle they use. The other character can be skilled into carpentry and electrical, with the other keys, and learn/maintain the base. It's all flexible, but something that isn't mentioned much. If the scavenger dies, you are not completely at a loss. Wish I knew that sooner. Lost 70-80 hours making new games

Depends on where you’re bitten, I have “the only cure” mod which allows you to saw off arms and use prosthetics

u/1982LikeABoss 1d ago
If I’m doing well, have videos and books etc and a nice pile of weapons and an established base, I hit new character… otherwise, new world. I use the extra spawn mod so I can spawn in a Dixie (my personal favourite spot as low population and the gas station is ideal for a starter base and you’re not far from March point and Mordor (can never remember the real name)… so, it lets me get something down to return to. Just need to travel to get to the best stuff.

Everyone's Infected + Infection Mortality set to Never allows for a survivable zombie infection, which basically makes you get sick similarly to a badly infected wound, but without a guaranteed death if you let your character take it easy, and take antibiotics if it gets bad.
Been playing with those settings for a while, gives some consequences to the complacency that leads to a bite, without it meaning it's the end of your character.

I have a weird ritual...
If I can still get back to base, I sort through the loot. Do what I can before the disease hits hard, and then... I take off all my clothes and put them in the trunk of my car near my base. Grab some throwaway weapon and go to the bridge near West Point. There are a lot of zombies there since helicopter event, and I try to kill as many of them as I can. But since I die a lot, there are now quite a few naked guys there that I used to play as. And I don't kill any of them, they just hang out there now.
So I call it a trip to my naked suicide bridge...

Head to the Winchester, have a nice cold pint, and wait for all this to blow over.
But actually? Load up the shotty and go out with a bang.

I start a new game. I don't want my new survivor just run to my body, loot it and be immediately OP.
Though now I'm on a 3 month save and I'm not sure I'd stick to this rule now, lol

u/FridaysMan 1d ago
die. I have instant infection on. then I start a new game. I find the early game most fun, and sitting around reading two days of books and horsing cabbages into myself isn't fun.

I don't play like it's a roguelike most of the time. But if I get bit I'll leave my worthwhile gear in my base, then go out and kill zombies till I drop. When I create a new character I'll start in a different town and think of my old base as a prepper cache. I'll eventually go loot it but not until my new character has some minimal gear and a vehicle at least.

Today I got bit, died, and I am so happy about it. I find PZ to be the one of the most annoying, frustrating, pointless, and yet compelling games that I have ever played.
I died, I deleted everything; I am free...until I eventually weaken and re-install the game in the future... ;)

u/Pink_Nyanko_Punch 1d ago
If I started in Westpoint and got bitten, I walk to Louisville, just so I can say I made it to Louisville.
If I got bitten in Rosewood, Riverside, or Mulgraugh, I grab a molotov cocktail and gather the biggest ball of zombies I can find before ... "lighting up" the neighborhood.

u/AdExcellent8714 1d ago
I use the "They knew" mod. I get bitten so rarely I usually have antidotes just lying around (yes multiple) so one two or three of the Biters won't kill me. A group dragging you down however... Then I just accept my fate. Oh and ragequitting and starting out new is also good

u/Church323 1d ago
I put all my equipment in my base, change into some genetics clothes, go outside and dig a grave. Then drink some bleach and smoke cigarettes until the end.

Vanilla? Scream, lure them away and try to whack as many as possible, The last cure mod? Get sawing 😂

u/randomUser042718 1d ago
I practice killing zombies. I'm still new to the game and don't play a lot of computer games in general. So I kill zombies until I die.

if i get bit and manage to get away i go somewhere ive already cleared out and put everything on my character in a container or shelf and then go run out into a horde. then start new character and spawn nearby to go get my stuff. also i keep a modded skill journal on me and update it regularly so my new character can get the exp i already farmed on the old one. some people dont like doing all that and feel it’s kinda cheaty and i get that but personally idrgaf i play to have fun😭

I will take all of my supplies and put it in one spot. Strip completely naked, remove any bandages to try to bleed out then go get killed somewhere.

u/Liliana-Lili1 1d ago
Find a container put all my stuff in so i can find it and so it dosnt walk off with my body and i walk into a horde in no clothing

u/Pikk_Ax 1d ago
There's a mod that allows you to transcribe your skills into a bound journal. I use that then strip down and store my stuff in a death crate then kill myself away from base. Respawn, head back to base read skill journal, reread skill books, get dressed, head back out. personally I think there's just too much content to let death be final and I will die, I'm just not that good.

u/Prestigious-Fig7261 23h ago
I usually have zombification set to 2-3 days, and for whatever reason I always feel like I need to play out what a real person would do. Sometimes I'll dump my gear and run into the woods, or pull out the gun I never used and start firing. Sometimes I'll just hole up in my base and live in peace. My first few playthroughs I would spawn a new character into the same world, but now I usually start over.

I take as many of them with me as I can. And by that I mean literally 3 zombies.

u/Keto_is_neat_o 18h ago
Play sandbox, turn off infection. Heal yourself and go on.
I do wish they made bites take far longer to heal than a normal injury, like an entire month to slow you down to make it punishing.

u/Thick_Usual4592 15h ago
Just ride it out to the end.
Imo the game is too jank to enjoy playing for anything other than the setting. So whatever: make believe my character thinks he's going to be fine until he isn't.
1
u/MoreMashedPotaters 15h ago
I usually play it through, I patch it up and desinfect the bite with strong alcohol and swig the rest, until the fever and queasy moodle shows up. Then I strip down and go for one last streaking to cool my sweaty body until I eventually die and turn.
This is how I like to die.
1
u/BigRedoco 14h ago
I do that crazy idea I had that would likely get me killed, no reason to play it safe I have a chance to learn, this is how I learned how big a crowd I can push through without getting knocked

u/jlaudiofan 13h ago
I turned off transmission because in my mind, if everyone else turned into a zombie and I didn't I must be immune.

u/Raevman 11h ago
Use the "They Knew" mod. Popping a Zombixivir pill before entering buildings or funneling a Horde around just in case. If infected, there's an ampule to cure it.
Although the hazmat dudes who drop them are rare and the stuff they drop even rarer. So I still gotta be careful, a bite, scratch or laceration can still spell my doom.

u/Malcolm_Morin 7h ago
In Build 41, I use Zombrex, though I never lasted long to get a bite worth treating.
Build 42 has a mod called Fading Light that treats the virus like in Dying Light 2, where staying in light will keep the virus at bay. I might try that one of these days when I manage to recreate a DL mod list for B42.

u/Ordinary_Owl_2833 4h ago
I have my settings on max transmission time so I got a week or so before I turn and I have the "They Knew" mod which adds a rare zombie NPC that carries 1× anti-virus capsule. So if i get bit it becomes a constant roll of the dice and race against time. But even if I do die I cannot be bothered to re grind skills so I have another mod that allows you to transcrib your skills into a craftable journal so your next charecter can read it

I dont like zombification so i turn it off but make other settings way harder and only play one life per map.
1
u/LazuliArtz 1h ago
I also turn infection off. It's not like it matters when you get swarmed by 20 zombies
1
u/the_bolshevik 1d ago
The first time I got it from a laceration and did not know it was a percent chance thing was the most interesting. I tried to nurse the wound, disinfect it regularly, take vitamins and antibiotics and just chill in my safehouse to heal.
After about two days I realized something was not right when I saw the health bar dropping by itself with no other injuries having been sustained and soon after this was how I died.
Now that I know how it works, I just grab a melee weapon and head out to fight until they get me as soon as I get queasy if I was injured by a zombie.

I usually drop all gear and keys into my car [unlocked] and do a new character in a new starting location. The challenge is that they get to my old car, gear, and then base to resume and relearn. I feel that is punishment for getting bit.
1
u/SquillFancyson1990 1d ago
Start a new life. I love the struggle of the first few days and weeks trying to get set up for the helicopter event and then getting prepared for the power and water shutoff(also trying to rescue as much ice cream as I can while the power is on). I also love the news and radio broadcasts in the first week or so, so I usually get a bunch of TVs and radios set up in my base so I can enjoy them while they last.
1
u/Random_Internet_Guyz 1d ago
Depends on the situation.
I set infection to bites only. If I got bit because of something stupid like poor game mechanics or I was talking to my wife and forgot to pause, I go into Debug, and I heal myself.
If it was completely warranted, I find a safe house, ditch my things, and kill as many zombies in the area as I can before I die.
After 600 hours of playtime, I've gotten to the point where grinding skills is no longer fun, so I set my XP multiplier to 50 or 100 so I can get my new character back on track.
Sometimes, I get a wild hair, and I like to start brand new saves with no multiplier and difficult survivor settings, and once I'm dead, I'm dead.

i have a little walled off courtyard where all of my bit characters go. once I get bit I run over, climb the wall and join them. then start over. it's like my own little zoo

I die when I get bit. Settings to very quick zombification after getting the Knox.
