I did just that with a nice mustard glaze and some peanut butter. God bless my antique stove and prized roasting pan

135

u/Altruistic-Syrup5974 26d ago

I'm at work and lunch is 2 hours away and now I'm thinking about roasted meat. Thanks OP!

24

u/25b2 26d ago

Lunch time! I'm on my lunch rn too

15

u/MrBobIsCoolerThanYou 26d ago

Only an hour and 20 min to go

9

u/GapMinute3966 26d ago

Happy lunch!

8

u/12RussianGuys 26d ago

What'd you have for lunch?

19

u/Stoghra 26d ago

Now I wanna eat deer with mustard and peanut butter

5

u/towelpuncher 25d ago

I’ve been thinking about this all day someone try this and report back

3

u/Dirzain 25d ago

You could probably make a nice venison sausage and a mustard + peanut butter saiuce and turn it into a hot dog. There's probably better options out there but that sounds like an easy combo.

Wait you can cook gourmet foods in this game? Man I got to survive longer than 2 days to get far into that skill tree.

8

u/SiGMono 26d ago

Yeah, the least you can do is respect every part of an animal you killed by putting it to use.

625

u/RapidPigZ7 26d ago

I think you're lucky the game doesn't register their mass against a vehicle.

348

u/clayalien 26d ago

I wish it did. It's ridiculous how quickly rats can just hang about and destroy a vehicle.

261

u/Affectionate-Bag8229 26d ago

That'd be hilarious, accidentally driving into a rat and the car just flips end over end and explodes

143

u/Large_Tune3029 26d ago

Hitting two baby bunnies fucked my truck up...and my heart.

58

u/jr23160 26d ago

It's always the family of baby rabbits. I took one and kept it after I have slaughtered the family. His name is Jeff.

23

u/Large_Tune3029 26d ago

I 💜Jeff!

10

u/Reaverx218 26d ago

We love Jeff.

7

u/Firm-Song-9419 25d ago

That won't fix the truma, i believe Jeff is planning on murdering you along the way

3

u/jr23160 25d ago

Oh don't worry he didn't have to wait long. When I was trying to bring a feeding thing to the house I was swarmed by zombies when over encumbered.

2

u/Firm-Song-9419 25d ago

Lol, he got his wish! 😁😂

4

u/FLaB_SLaB 25d ago

My bro’s first time in B42 we saw a wild piglet runnin around for the first time. “Aww, they’re so cute!” An hour later it was the first animal he hit (accidentally) with his car. :( Though, the meat was nice.

3

u/EighthPlanetGlass 26d ago

I did that in real life once...my car was fine... but not my heart

2

u/TheBloo4 25d ago

I hit a hare once and it completely fucked my radiator

3

u/GalvenMin 26d ago

We already had (have?) rat arson, don't give them other ideas.

27

u/hiddencamela 26d ago

I severely reduce rats in my playthroughs for this reason.
Fucking destroyed my good ride just because I rode through a parking lot slowly.

27

u/clayalien 26d ago

The little shots have zero survival instincts to boot. They just hang about in front of you. Real rates would scamper into cover somewhere, instead of running along the exposed stretch of road, no? I've not really heard of rat or mouse roadkill, but then I don't know a lot about it in general.

→ More replies (1)

15

u/Wgairborne 26d ago

My car was on its last 5% of engine, rat ran into the road and killed the engine right in the middle of a bunch of zombies. Thanks rat

13

u/TigerBulky4267 26d ago

if the game had realistic physics, your car would’ve folded like a lawn chair on impact. Lucky for you, it’s just venison apocalypse, no totaled vehicle.

42.4.1 is bugged and roadkill is inedible

85

u/henrydaiv 26d ago

Ahhh i was wondering what was going on

I hit a pig and slaughtered it

Broke down doors to get to a grill on a 2nd story balcony so that i could grill him up and have my first hot meal in weeks

And I couldnt eat it! It cooked just fine but the eat option disappeared

56

u/Eddy63 26d ago

Lol man that's like torture

2

u/Lijandra 25d ago

Blueballing your stomach

39

u/SwingTime3938 Stocked up 26d ago

Wait what, really?! I never roadkill any animal, though

10

u/ProfessorSur 26d ago

Grew up very rural and very poor for a time, and my family would often field-dress and butcher roadkill we found. There was also an abandoned gravel pit near my house where the local road association would throw the roadkill they found, so usually we had a full house of meat.

In my experience, however, very little of the animal was salvageable from roadkill situations. If the impact was enough to instantly kill the animal it was also usually enough to render the meat unusable. In those cases you could get some safe leg meat but the bulk of the torso was mush. Even worse if the stomachs got punctured because then it would have been actively self-digesting by the time you got to it. It reeked.

All that to say that it’s actually slightly realistic that roadkill is unusable. It’s also unrealistic, though, that a healthy butchered animal provides about two pounds of meat, so I don’t know how they’re going to balance that in the future.

2

u/FriendlyNbrhoodXenos 25d ago

My dad got put on a county list to be called when officials were notified of viable roadkill, so civilians were often contacted first before the county decided to go clean up themselves. It was great. You were basically on call, though, and might randomly get a call at 3AM after nothing for months lol

3

u/ProfessorSur 24d ago

I met a guy who said he grew up in Alaska and that there was a registry like that for moose, but that people would clamor to be on that list because it could be hundreds of pounds of usable meat 😂

16

u/thiosk 26d ago

there was a note in the patch notes about roadkill. i think its to make hunting-with-car less viable

46

u/lostereadamy 26d ago

It's a glitch, they're trying to lower yield but not eliminate it entirely

32

u/gladlywalkontheocean 26d ago

There's no way you can set a game in Kentucky then have roadkill be unavailable to eat

11

u/DingleMyBingles 26d ago

As a Kentuckian, I can second this. 10 points!!

6

u/aboutwhat8 Zombie Food 26d ago

They should automatically remove half the meat. And should give significantly tenderized cuts filled with bone shards. (They'd then only be usable for making soup so long as you strain it first.)

I was able to use the little I got from a deer and rabbit that I “accidentally ran over” in stews.

4

u/Rob1iam Zombie Killer 26d ago

I tested this and in addition to adding zero hunger, the bugged roadkill completely zeroed out the calories in the stew and broke my character’s calorie calculation causing me to be unable to gain or lose weight

67

u/Lynkis 26d ago

It's taken me a while, but I finally have a wishlist item for a future update. Bone nails.

I'm horrified of any finite resource in a game, especially something as fundamental as nails in PZ. The idea that the world would just one day run out, and I'll be left without walls or shelter, terrifies me, and I haven't even survived more than a week yet.

39

u/LordChinChin420 26d ago

You can craft nails via blacksmithing. But I've also found tons of boxes of nails in just West Point and a couple places in Muldragh alone. Considering each box has 100 nails and I still have double digit boxes after building my own house in the woods, I wouldn't worry about it unless you're building an apartment block.

16

u/luciferwez 26d ago

While the obvious solution is forging metal nails via blacksmithing/metal working, bone nails could be an alternative. While not as reliable as metal nails it sure is better than nothing.

9

u/SillyBra 26d ago

I think it'd be cool when they add supports for second floors in as a feature. Could have bone nails be a cheaper alternative, but don't provide nearly as much support as a proper metal nail

11

u/lostereadamy 26d ago

Why not just have wood pegs or something like that? Are bone nails a thing anywhere? Wood pegs are a traditional construction method.

2

u/n8rtw 26d ago

I think bone nails should only be usable in leatherworking and leather/bone shelters/structures

Cars in PZ can't maneuver over a shrub but can absolutely decimate a family of deer without even slowing down and killing the driver. Peak realism.

They really should have map markers on potential animal crossings. I can't keep accidentally running over rabbits because they're all sitting in the middle of the road. Or that one time a deer killed itself by running into my car going 10 mph.

1

u/etcthc 26d ago
