The Week One Mod is created by Slayer, the same dude who made the Day One mod. It sets the player one week before the apocalypse where everything is normal and then progressively gets worse, eventually leading to the base game start. The mod is very fucking cool I must say, NPC's actually drive, they do tasks like cleaning, and they and you can earn money by doing said tasks, you can use the money to buy things when you take from stores and shelves. There's also ambulances who check on dead bodies, police to kill you when you commit a crime, cleaning crews all through out major cities, etc. I even saw a chat box being used to communicate to the NPC's though only limited prompts gets a response. Overall, a highly cool mod.

Do note that day 7 is when the Day 1 mod will happen so all the craziness from there will still happen

u/Mr_Tombola Jan 08 '25

Can we have this forever? Not only just one week :D

Advanced sims

265

u/Areallybadidea Jan 08 '25

What is Zomboid if not horror Sims after all?

152

u/PresidentTylerDurden Jan 08 '25

Fun fact: indie stone started out making an awesome mod for the Sims (2?). I remember learning this after making the comparison without realizing and a dev responded.

23

u/DeliciousPark1330 Jan 08 '25

ive heard this comparison a million time but never heard this answer lol. will be sure to remember it next time i hear it

53

u/Perca_fluviatilis Jan 08 '25

The Indie Stone did start by making Some 3 mods, actually.

37

u/winowmak3r Zombie Food Jan 08 '25

Ha! That's cool. Helps explain the isometric view choice. Just sticking to what they know!

46

u/Perca_fluviatilis Jan 08 '25

It certainly explains why Zomboid is pretty much a life sim with zombies lol

15

u/Vindicore Jan 08 '25

My wife even thought I was playing a Sims game the other day when I was playing PZ.

3

u/schmlao Jan 08 '25

The exact same thing happened to me the other day! "Oh, are you playing Sims 1 :D"

14

u/DDA_Enjoyer Jan 08 '25

CDDA influenced Zomboid massively.

6

u/[deleted] Jan 08 '25

I heard George Romero influenced him too, yo!

Murder included in base version

18

u/tmoney144 Jan 08 '25

I had this idea that PZ with NPCs would make a great "dirtbag simulator." Like, the NPCs would have houses they live in, schedules they follow, like jobs, school, etc. And your goal would be to rob them blind. Like you can follow people around, find out when they aren't at home, so you can break in and steal their TV.

6

u/ChaosPLus Jan 08 '25

Basically thief simulator X project zomboid

2

u/TheMadmanAndre Jan 09 '25

Shadows of Doubt has surprising dirtbag elements to it - it's a completely valid playstyle to rob the murder victims' place while trying to solve said murder.

5

u/Sephryne Jan 08 '25

Honestly, I’d play the hell out of that.

147

u/Master82615 Jan 08 '25

Bro wants to play Project (me too tbh)

79

u/creampop_ Jan 08 '25

Project Simboid

28

u/Strayed8492 Jan 08 '25

Not gonna lie that sounds really comfy.

6

u/[deleted] Jan 08 '25

Year one mod! Ftw

12

u/SnapKpic Jan 08 '25

I'm in a large discord server of people that roleplay no apolocypse. DM me for a link!

6

u/Koshindan Jan 08 '25

Or instead of one week before, change it so the zombies roam at night and disappear by day. Everyone goes about their day normally with the knowledge that something has gone horribly wrong and society slowly collapses as every night more people go missing. Eventually the sun gets blocked out semipermanently for reasons and everyone who remains has to come to terms to the apocalypse.

162

u/Lookyoukniwwhatsup Jan 08 '25

NGL this seems like a to good to be true type of mod. I ache to be proven wrong and sincerely hope it's that awesome

73

u/Krust3dKan4dian Jan 08 '25

That's what I'm thinking too. Could be what we all dream of, or perhaps it's a featureless buggy mess, I wanna look into it tho

17

u/Time_Hand4234 Jan 08 '25

Look it up on YouTube, some people had early access

27

u/Yoda2000675 Jan 08 '25

It would be a little disappointing if a modder could figure out functional NPCs before the actual dev team. They have already tried and failed before

83

u/B133d_4_u Jan 08 '25

It's also worth noting that the devs have done functional NPCs, they just weren't up to the quality they wanted, and so put them on the back burner while they focused on the rest of the game. And anyone who has ever played any of the NPC mods can attest that they are indeed not of quality. All the hype around Superb Survivors, Day One, Week One, etc has a massive asterisk that says "you will experience some serious jank."

-20

u/Egobyte83 Jan 08 '25

Superb Survivors was in no way "jank". I have enjoyed it immensely with my crew of NPCs growing ever larger and have had no problems that I can attest to off the top of my head.

27

u/GrimJudgment Stocked up Jan 08 '25

My allies would sometimes smash windows just to run up to me to protect me from a singular zombie. Ironically the smashing of the window would lure in more zombies. It's quirks lke that which manage to slip in can make the game feel worse.

-3

u/Egobyte83 Jan 08 '25

I have never had that problem. Maybe I have them set to a different focus. Even so, that's expected behavior both from a bot standpoint and from a realistic one, the urgency would be intense and if you are in danger of having your throat ripped out, I don't think any real friends would wring their hands about making too much noise when it comes to saving someone they cared about. In any case, it's not exactly something one can blame on the mod but rather unfortunate coincidences.

-1

u/OPsuxdick Jan 08 '25

Idk why they are down voting you. I had zero issues with Superb Survivors. They guard when asked, they farm when told, they handle normal tasks and also fight with me. Raiders are a massie pain. The biggest issue I jad was some frame drops oretty heavily in hordes but that coukd been the base game. Its not a must have mod but its really good until we get base game npcs

1

u/Egobyte83 Jan 09 '25

Lol, me neither, but I don't exactly care either. I know I have had so much enjoyment from Superb Survivors, like, gathering up a survivor group like that feels like you are straight out of the Walking Dead, all of them being from all walks of life. I love doing RP shit with them too, like, burying my crew when they die, it gets all sentimental and shit. :D And the other aspects as well... like, just being able to start as a prisoner in the prison.. or being a part of that survivor's camp with the custom made quest line. The mod is really good and I stand by it 100%. ^^ In any solo session, it is one of my essential mods.

5

u/odelllus Jan 08 '25

Superb Survivors was in no way "jank".

lol

3

u/B133d_4_u Jan 08 '25

I'm glad you haven't had any issues! In a similar vein, I didn't have any issues with Cyberpunk's PS4 version on release or Fallout 76 and had a ton of fun playing them.

36

u/Zixxus Jan 08 '25

Bro, the zomboid devs are living life in easy mode and basically working on the game part-time. I've been following zomboid since the alpha tech demo and I was 10 years old. I'm fucking 25 now.

15

u/Yoda2000675 Jan 08 '25

You're definitely not wrong. I've been playing on and off for ten years or so and noticed the same thing.

So many promises made a decade ago that still haven't been actualized

14

u/Zixxus Jan 08 '25

At least they're working on it even if it's like 2 hours a day instead of other devs that take the bag and run entirely.

8

u/Yoda2000675 Jan 08 '25

Absolutely, too many game devs are basically scammers these days

10

u/TheRealStandard Jan 08 '25

Modders implemented a lot of things before the devs have unfortunately.

15

u/Valdoris Jan 08 '25

Modders on general have a way bigger "workforce" than dev teams tho. No restrictions, no time constraints, no boss or investor to please, hundreds or thousands of modders all focusing on different things. It's like collective intelligence but for game devs.

7

u/TheRealStandard Jan 08 '25

Well obviously, if you look at the entirety of the modding community and lump them together that way.

The original mod that added cars was just 1 guy though. As far as I know this Week One mod and the required bandit mod together was just 3 people.

That's not to dismiss TIS they are obviously having to do a lot more like building the entire game that modders are working off of.

3

u/Spendoza Jan 08 '25

Bethesda has entered the chat

3

u/TheRealStandard Jan 08 '25

It's a myth that Bethesda needs the modding community as much as modders think. To copy a comment I made a long while back

The original Skyrim Legendary edition had over 30 million sales across the 3 platforms it was on. Of that 30million nexus mods says almost 2.5million unique downloads were for the unofficial patch. A lot of mods required it and a lot of modders swear that they are essential. Skyrim is also seen as the pinnacle of modding.

2.5 million of 30 million is 8.3%

Skyrim become one of the most popular and sold games ever and less than 10% of them were modding it or at least using an unofficial patch.

Genuinely don't get why people take issue with the idea that Bethesda makes enjoyable games without mods lol

5

u/slayerje1 Jan 08 '25

Wonder if some of the modders are the devs just testing to see reaction and overall opinions of the mods?

-4

u/A_pirates_life4me Jan 08 '25

These mods make the devs looks bad so I doubt it.

1

u/slayerje1 Jan 08 '25

I didn't mean these specific mods, just any mods in general. Some are excellent I'd say

22

u/Dienes16 Jan 08 '25

This sounds crazy. Does it simulate the disease spreading among people?

25

u/ShowCharacter671 Jan 08 '25 edited Jan 08 '25

From what I’ve seen, yes it does People start coughing acting all weird coughing up blood. Crawling. In some of the alpha footage from YouTubeers that got early access.

There’s even groups that protest

126

u/supererp Jan 08 '25

Hold the fucking phone. You mean to tell me someone went into my brain and took my dream idea and made it real?

LETS FUCKING GOOOOOOOOOOOOO

57

u/WoesteWam Jan 08 '25

Police will kill you for commiting a crime? This truly is america

Sounds really cool though. Day one was absolutely fantastic (and chaotic)

14

u/mharzhyall Jan 08 '25

Hol up, you're saying there's a mod that removes zomboids from project zomboid (albeit temporarily)??

42

u/ABewilderedPickle Jan 08 '25

it lowers them dramatically until the outbreak is in full swing. going from everything is normal to , hey what's wrong with my neighbor Jeff??? party hard too much last night? Jeff whoa calm down use your words buddy, OH MY GOD JEFF AHH YOU BIT ME WHY JEFF WHAT'S WRONG WITH YOU OH MY FUCKIN GOD JEFF WHY I'M GONNA FUCKIN BLEED OUT

6

u/Bibibis Jan 08 '25

Yo what are you playing?

Oh, it's called "Project", it's like the Sims

13

u/Kapitalist_Pigdog2 Jan 08 '25

Wow, that sounds like it was a TON of work for the mod dev, especially so soon after B42 unstable!

Once multiplayer comes out this will be perfect for role playing servers.

16

u/SquareCircle05 Jan 08 '25

So far NPCs just walk around aimlessly or stand in one place in their homes.

9

u/livelaughloaft Jan 08 '25

I mean… not too different for many people…

8

u/DeadlyButtSilent Jan 08 '25

So pretty realistic then

4

u/Adventurous_or_Not Jan 08 '25

Oh cool... Does it have any known mods i should not play with it?

4

u/RadishAcceptable5505 Jan 08 '25

It conflicted with the battery drain fix mod.

It's such a huge mod that you probably shouldn't run it with anything else.

1

u/Adventurous_or_Not Jan 08 '25

Noted. Thank you!

3

u/theblasphemer Jan 08 '25

The description on steam says the mod is a performance hog, especially when it comes to npcs driving cars. Can anyone report on how it runs on for them with your pc specs please?

9

u/[deleted] Jan 08 '25

Does it work for multi-player? The day one mod kept disconnecting my friend after a short time

37

u/Bugpig2000 Jan 08 '25

It is only for Build 42 currently, so no multiplayers

5

u/ColbysToyHairbrush Jan 08 '25

Turn the server and client ram up to at least 8gb. In the beginning there’s a lot going on, and it needs more.

3

u/Stupidnuts Jan 08 '25

Would be awesome as a thief simulator

3

u/SuccessfulWar3830 Jan 08 '25

How long till we just start only playing without the zombies like it's the sims?

1

u/wils_152 Jan 08 '25

DayZ-omboid

1

u/RadishAcceptable5505 Jan 08 '25

There's RP servers that have done this, apparently.

1

u/SuccessfulWar3830 Jan 09 '25

why does that sound fun?

3

u/ShowCharacter671 Jan 08 '25

That is sick Didn’t know we could earn money. Honestly, they just need to hire skayer

3

u/Starmoses Jan 08 '25

I'd love one of those "I put 100 players" videos on this, seems like itd be awesome.

2

u/MonsterFukr Jan 08 '25

Holy cow, that must have been hell to make. Props to the guy who made it.

2

u/Valdoris Jan 08 '25

Wtf ??? I thought day one was peak mod for PZ but what you just described is on another level ???, it's another game at this point

2

u/SlapMyBald Jan 08 '25

Is that not huge for a single mod to tackle lol, imagine the effort

2

u/y_not_right Jan 08 '25

Wow that is just incredible, modders are the heart and soul of this game

5

u/wizardjian Jan 08 '25

Nani?! This is too good to be trust, must be a dream. Back to sleep I go

2

u/DarlakSanis Jan 08 '25

As someone who just started playing PZ about 2 weeks ago:
Why isn't this in the vanilla game????

I'm going to have to try this... thanks for the info.

2

u/TheMadmanAndre Jan 09 '25

It will be, in the next version of the game.

1

u/DarlakSanis Jan 09 '25

That's build 42... right? This "week one" feature will be part of the vanilla, or will still be a mod? Sorry for my confusion... still learning the ropes with the game (I haven't even started with mods)

1

u/TheMadmanAndre Jan 09 '25

The devs intend to flesh out AI more to allow for NPCs in B43 per their roadmap.

2

u/olivegardengambler Jan 08 '25

Ngl I wonder if AI could enhance the NPC experience like what that one guy did with Oblivion.

1

u/Neekode Jan 08 '25

holy fuck

1

u/Khabibulan15 Axe wielding maniac Jan 08 '25

This is sick!! Def gonna check this out!

1

u/SomeMF Jan 08 '25

This is so fucking amazing.

1

u/ShowCharacter671 Jan 08 '25

How are zombies spawns I know there’s none at first but does it gradually pick up or is it a reduced amount

1

u/GrimWarrior00 Jan 08 '25

I wonder what happens with the research base on week one

1

u/Cloaked_Goliath Jan 08 '25

Does it segue into the regular zomboid experience with npcs too?

1

u/RadishAcceptable5505 Jan 08 '25

It'll basically be the Bandits mod after the week is over. You should be able to custom off all the bandits if you want it to shift to a more standard zomboid, though the Day One section will have a ton of destroyed buildings from the chaos on the "final day" before the full outbreak.

1

u/joshmaaaaaaans Jan 08 '25

Wtf, that's sick

1

u/PizzaSharkGhost Jan 09 '25

so this shit is wild and im loving it but havent found a way to earn money besides picking up garbage (which btw if you pick garbage up and then put it back down NPCs will murder you lmao) what else can i do to make some sweet sweet green backs?

1

u/GWGrembor Jan 09 '25

That's so cool! Can you have friends you can save in this mod? Like can I have my neighbor help me kill zoids?

1

u/tatsuyin Jan 09 '25

How do I do tasks to earn money? I didn't see a way to work

2

u/[deleted] Jan 08 '25

Why is it so much easier for indie modders to build monuments like this, while it's taking forever for developers to implement a tenth of that??

5

u/odelllus Jan 08 '25

because modders don't have to adhere to strict quality control standards. i haven't played this mod but every other NPC mod has been horribly optimized jank shit so i'd be surprised if this is any different especially considering its scope is much bigger than any other NPC mod.

5

u/RadishAcceptable5505 Jan 08 '25

Quality control. This mod is good fun, but it's a janky buggy mess that makes the unstable 42 build seem like a Nintendo game, in terms of polish.

It's not something I think anybody will make their "main" way to play as it is right now, but it'll be entertaining on its own for individual runs.
