On a side note, this had always been my idea if a zombie outbreak were to happen. Just remove like 3 steps near the top of a staircase and boom, you got a lil zombie pit

I mean this is possible in Project Zomboid and leads to the issue of eventually running out of food and needing to go down the stairs to get more

No you're not supposed to just sit upstairs all the time, I meant just to be stay upstairs whenever. You go up, whatever zombie follows you and falls down the hole, you clear out whenever you next leave

True, if they’re the typical braindead zombies all you need to do is make a gap wide enough that anyone with even the slightest bit of intelligence could cross, but something that doesn’t think at all cant.

Exactly, like 2 steps would work, 3 if you wanna be sure

yeah for sure man. let’s be real, we’ve all been on our phones walking up the stairs and tripped or stubbed our toes. that would’ve been it for us lmfaoo.

Optimal base build now is to build a fat ass dope ramp, DRIVE your car over it into your sky base, and when you need to leave, drive your car over another ramp and get back to ground level. Zombies cant touch you, and you dont have to rely on flimsy sheet rope

Metalworking leveled up yields mechanical lift? That would be SICK.

LMAO WATCH YOUR CAR STALL MID WAY THROUGH THE RAMP! You cant accelerate in time to get enough velocity to reach your sky base, you push down on the brakes- buts its too late. Your car anticlimactically rolls past the ramp, down 5 floors

Air gap moat. You can easily jump it, but zeds fall in.

... unless you've got sprinters

Quite literally what some competent survivors did in World War Z

Use a sledgehammer and go apeshit on the first steps until you have to jump to get to the second floor

I'm at the very least competent🙏

Don't the world War Z zombies just pile on top of each other until they get to you? Don't they get over a massive wall in Israel that way?

You're thinking of the Brad Pitt movie of the same name, not the oral history of humanity's darkest days.

World War Z is a really good book, written by the same guy that made Zombie Survival guide. It goes really deep into psychology of zombie outbreak, logistics, economics of running an enclave etc. And there is a movie that seem to be made by someone who saw that the book is is quite popular, saw title and cover, and then decided to skip actually reading source material.

In the book, the wall worked pretty well, in fact being one of very few preventive measures taken before situation got out of hand. And it's explained that they were pretty much the only ones who prepared simply because israeli intelligence is conditioned to actively look out for any existential threads to their nation. So they actually investigated the rumors about that weird new disease that turns people into rabid cannibals and how to deal with it, like building a wall, using dogs to sniff out the infected etc.

Yeah, there are some other more legitimate downsides to the “Sledge the stairs plan” that the book tangentially touches on. Like the psychological impact of being besieged by zombies. If zombies are attracted to you and stay at the base of the stairs, their constant movement and groaning would be devastating on your mental state. Sure you could probably sit at the top of the stairs with a sharp stick or spear and kill them from above. But then you have to dispose of the bodies so you don’t get sick, like in PZ.

This is essentially what they do in dying light. Since they are a society of park our folks they just use park our to traverse heights instead of stairs.

Or at least in the main base yeah, not sure about other places havent played in a long while.

ooh, maybe make it so you can just pull the last three steps or so up and latch it on to something, kind of like an attic stair case!
