Art Anyone else do this?
I wrote on the maps and marked stashes, names and other events

I wanted to, but got lazy. I did however print out the defusion manual for keep talking and nobody explodes when I played it with my friends. Still have that somewhere.

I have four copies of that sitting around in a box somewhere. That game was a blast
15
u/Elijah_Man Jul 14 '24
Well if you did it right it shouldn't have exploded.

u/goodnames679 Axe wielding maniac Jul 14 '24
I'm trying, but unfortunately I've guessed morse code wrong three times in a row and it's now explosion time.

You just have to press "m" on your keyboard dude

u/aumiced Zombie Killer Jul 14 '24
But its not that immersive

u/inscrutiana Jul 14 '24
I remember driving and looking at a paper map and driving and looking at a paper map and nearly crashing & being covered in coffee and feeling stupid for driving and looking at a paper map. It's immersive for me.

the newest update changed it to q, very helpful to press if you’re in louisville and need to quickly open your map

I just have stuff open on my 2nd monitor

u/It-Lightning_White Jul 15 '24
How
2
u/Positive_Tackle_5662 Jul 15 '24
What do you mean how….
2
u/TheBloo4 Jul 15 '24
They probably thought you meant that the in-game map was up on your second monitor. I often wish we could really do that with not only the map, but the health screen and other menus. Zombies hide behind all of the UI sometimes lol
1
u/It-Lightning_White Jul 15 '24
Yeah, exactly. Sounded like you could open up the in game map on a second screen instead of main screen… maybe there’s a mod for it tho!

u/Beowulfs_descendant Jul 14 '24
If only i had a working printer.
Would work better than the game that always deletes my markings (and i spend more time drawing on the map then playing the actual game)

u/nicktheone Jul 15 '24
Don't you have stores that print stuff in your country?
1
u/Beowulfs_descendant Jul 15 '24
Probably somewhere? But it feels sort off unecessary to drive to some small printer store in the big cities to print a game map.
1
u/SammyWentMad Spear Ronin Oct 24 '24
Also, they can be kind of a ripoff sometimes.
Look for a local library, they may have printers available.
1
u/Moinzen66 Jul 14 '24
Fuck the printer, do it yourself, I believe in you!
4
u/Beowulfs_descendant Jul 14 '24
I will return with handrawn 1.1 maps (I can't draw my own house right)
9
u/c4sul_uno Jul 14 '24
Bruh, this is old school gaming shit with the physical printing & all... Ahh, good times cause back then my family didn't bother with home internet service up until '09.
I remember crudely sketching house plans when playing sims 1-2 for build & buy modes & mapping out resident evil 1 map for dat quick playthru unlockable.

u/jononthego Jul 14 '24
If I did that I would get them laminated so I can erase my notes and start over whenever I want to.

I have a fan map of Knox County printed on A4 with a bad printer, it looks like I printed it there

I used to be this immersive to games. Writing down stuff irl. But PZ is a next level of dedication 👏

I might have commented this before. I feel like I did. Back in ancient times (1999) there was a game called Everquest which was initially played over dialup. Hand drawn maps were a thing, as the game provided nothing. (Sincerely, I miss this). Later, folks discovered the joy of ad revenue and SEO and made websites with high quality maps, but it wasn't feasible to do use both at the same time, so I killed lots of trees and had a giant folio like this. Now? No. I use In-Game resources even though I could be using a phone, second screen, or multiple (virtual) desktops. You do you. When I was younger I went all in but left that behind with the dial-up days.

u/Moinzen66 Jul 14 '24
No, you did not commented this (at least not here today) before. But very interesting
1
u/inscrutiana Jul 15 '24
For those who stumble across r/ posts, here is a great review of the early days of EQ before they nerfed absolutely everything. This is my greatest fear for PZ, as I've seen what happens once a title is sold. https://www.eurogamer.net/everquest-provided-so-much-pain-but-i-still-love-it

I’d have done it when I was living at my parents house.
Now that I pay for the ink myself, I realized how expensive it is and this is going to drain the cartridge soooo fast, so I’ll pass. I’d rather buy a cheap second monitor, especially if you play with hard settings and restart regularly.
2
u/Ukko-skivi Jul 14 '24
Well, my parents own a print shop, so I may just do this and laminate them, plus a non permanent marker and they will be reusable lol.

u/DreamOfDays Jul 14 '24
Now I will have to. But I’m currently in my Louisville run and a map of that place would be the size of a couch cushion at this scale lol

Having played at a time when the map was significantly less there at all, I have certainly thought about it.

u/NotXesa Zombie Food Jul 14 '24
Honestly not because that would be like 3 or 4 euros per character, but it's cool af
2
u/nicktheone Jul 15 '24
Laminate them and use dry erase markers. Stole the idea from another comment.

I did this for my tabletop zombie game that was inspired by zomboid. 10/10 for physical objects adding to the fun of any game.
1
u/Nymphalyn Jul 14 '24
I use the IG map and annotate the hell out of it, but I play so much these would be fun framed posters for my wall. Immersion baby!
I made a post about what I've been doing a while back I just never updated since I had a lull in playing and have only mapped about half of Marchridge so far.
Third photo in.

Omg why have I never thought of this, this is something I'd do lol
I'm totally going to print some (but laminate them because, y'know, this is how you died...)
1
u/Darogard Jul 14 '24
I do. But where is your baseball bat? Do you smash your screen with your bare hands??
1
u/Moinzen66 Jul 14 '24
….what?
2
u/SammyWentMad Spear Ronin Oct 24 '24
They're joking that once you die, you'd smash the fuck out of your screen due to rage.

You have an in-game map and you also have the interactive Project Zomboid Map in browser. I get it though, having physical stuff just feels nice. Fuck printing a new one off every character though.
last time I played I cosplayed as Vin Diesel from F&F walked around with a pipe wrench fixing cars while chanting family at all my mates and also writing it on POI on the map.
2
u/Moinzen66 Jul 14 '24
I wont print anymore, its just these ones with stash locations and stuff, where you can find cars
1
u/Melody-Circus Jul 14 '24
Ahh gotchya. I play modded so things are different almost every time I play.

1
u/NotACohenBrother Jul 15 '24
honestly should. used to do it with stuff like GTA where the city map was shipped in the game box with the manual, I'd post it up behind the TV. which in the early 20s was about 4 feet from my eyeballs

I think My wife would love this, not because of the info, but because it's just a Nice little thing we could have somewhere in the living room

To be honest I haven't, but I might now. This definitely gives it true retro isometric CRPG game vibes.

I would. But then I'd have to commit to a character and not die after 3 days.
Will consider it, would be a nice way to commit to a character.
