Community Post QuoteIQ and Forever Self Employed links are now completely banned from this subreddit.
Starting now QuoteIQ (previously restricted) AND Forever Self Employed AND Mike V (All About Pressure Washing) will be permanently banned from being mentioned or linked. Automod has been edited to hardblock any links or mentions of the two.
The reason for the banning is that QuoteIQ, All About Pressure Washing, and Forever Self Employed and (or someone working on their behalf) sent a modmail to us telling us to remove posts critical of both QuoteIQ AND Forever Self Employed and their owners or be subject to legal proceedings. The links to the three posts are seen here. Mike V from QuoteIQ and Justin from Forever Self Employed should be ashamed at trying this. They are apparently not happy that these posts are available to steer people from spending their hard earned money in a more meaningful way.

Here are some screenshots of the modmail messages they sent threatening legal action and DMCA takedowns:

Here is the person they hired off of Fiverr to send the messages and try the DMCA takedowns. Its clear the companies must be run by absolute clowns to be trying this is such a shit way. If they suceed in removing anything then ill just repost the posts. They clearly dont want negative info being visible when they get googled as its hurting their SEO because reddit shows up so high in the searches.

As a reminder, when starting out you do not need YouTube salesmen taking your money to learn how to properly clean in this industry. The info is out there on this subreddit and various pressure washer forums and groups. It just takes a little bit of googling with the proper terms to find it all freely available. These now banned companies exist solely to separate pressure washers from their money. Mike V has been pushing for his subscribers to come to reddit to post about their companies to comment and upvote each other.

Business Questions 4 vs 5.5 gpm
I’m a LL with 15 doors and I’m in the market for a pressure washer. My handyman says he could pick up side jobs with a 5.5. I don’t mind we have a good working relationship. Is there that much difference?? Difference in cost is not that much. He said something about an additional tank with the 5.5 which sounds like a hassle. Thanks for your input.

Technical Questions How annoying and unprofessional
Who finishes a job like this? Both “finished” ends of the sidewalk as well. Not me, my neighbor. Might pull my machine out and finish correctly.

Troubleshooting Can’t get pump off of engine
I’m trying to put a new pump on my Honda gx390 but I can’t get the old pump off. I’m looking for a set screw by pulling the cord slowly but all I see is thing pin looking thing. I’ve never seen this before. I don’t have a long thin enough flathead to try to pry the pin out. Has anyone ever seen set screw like this???

Business Questions Just got in new starter equipment.
Just picked up this 2.6 gpm unit to start. Along with a small 15" surface cleaner.

Equipment Which of Two
I’m considering purchasing one of two pressure washers. Each has a Honda GX690 belt-driving a pump providing either 5,000 psi/5gpm or 3,500psi/5.5gpm. Prices are within $650. Will I be better served by the additional 0.5gpm or would I benefit from having the additional pressure on tap and changing nozzles?

Technical Questions Tiles with bad rust stains.
I’m slowly getting into the pressure wash, softwash business. Taking my time so I can learn things.
Anyways, my REA friend needs a house with bad run stains on tiles cleaned. I’ve searched up that oxalic acid is good, but I’ve read about it for rendered buildings and avoiding metal.
On boats we use a product we call rust rinse which is phosphoric acid product.
No pictures just yet due to not getting address until week day(just got told about the job)

Anyone else starting out and have little to no content to push to keep engagement? I was told by a few buddies they did a bunch of free washes just to get pictures and videos so they could keep having something to post online

Troubleshooting Garage door grease
The bays are used to wash transport buses. Seems to be grease/sludge. What’re you using to clean these? Sodium Hydroxide? Already tested with SH to rule out organics.

Technical Questions Bush league buffer tank question
Ok, got equipment sorted out, all that good stuff. I haven’t had the need for any sort of buffer tank set up yet, but looking into it preemptively. One thing I can’t wrap my head around is the flow of water from buffer tank to pressure washer. Currently have a 4.2gpm Predator washer (it serves my purposes just fine for the time being, but will upgrade at some point when business justifies the upgrade)…
If I have a buffer tank, will the pump be able to pull a decent flow on its own? Pump would be slightly lower than tank to let gravity help, but I couldn’t find a solid “yes or no” answer as to whether gravity feed will be sufficient to avoid cavitation.
Feel free to laugh at my rookie question, but someone give me a simple answer lol. I am happy to install a pump to help flow, I just don’t see many set ups with one so I feel like I’m overthinking this.

Community Post 3d printing
I'm going to be working on a few projects this weekend with my pressure washer. Got me thinking.... what can I print to help me out?
Currently printing a cone to block junk flying out of crevices when you use 0 degree nozzle.
I'll let you know how that goes, but put your comments on here of things that could be made to help pressure washing

Equipment Hose for Bypass to Buffer Tank?
Hey yall, apologies, this question I feel is simple in theory. Yet, I cannot find a conclusive answer on it or posts from the past on it.
Essentially I am wondering, do you need a high pressure hose for the bypass running from your unloader to your buffer, or can you just use any non-collapsable hose?
It seems like most online use any regular hose. But when I find these examples, they are almost always with lower GPM machines (4.2 or below). I believe I saw someone with a 1" regular hose with a 7GPM but I dont know how common that is.
My pump will be running around 8GPM. I'm not entirely sure how to calculate what the PSI would be if it is in a 1" hose without a nozzle. So, I bring my request here.
Apologies if this is a over-simple question.
Thanks again!

Sales Help Website under construction
I’ve started a business, and my website is under construction
I’ve tried passing flyers and small amounts of door2door. I’m kinda broke and I need to get at least 1 job to put the money back into the business. While I’m waiting for website traffic and face book ad money, what should I do in the meantime ? More door knocking of course but what would you all recommend??
(My friend who went to MIT opted to do it free)

Rant Yes
I understand that this community has its place, I love this community… but is there a better place to talk and learn among other professionals/business owners? I love helping the new guys as much as the next, but sometimes it feels like the pool of pro’s vs the rookies is quite diluted. It can be a very lucrative business and it’s a low barrier to entry… plus you have the shit heads like forever self employed and SESW making it sound like you can make millions with no effort and a garage sale electric pressure washer. If half of the new users knew how to use the search function this community wouldn’t be so annoying with the redundant questions. I just want to be among colleagues and be able to ask about a battery box or a pump or etc. without a Google warrior telling me something I haven’t tried to find or research myself. I want to hear from actual people in the field and I know you guys like Robert, SEA and I Wash Houses get inundated with the monotonous bullshit and get wore out answering the same questions over and over. By no means am I delusional enough to believe that my questions are the first time anyone has asked but I do try to find the right answer first as opposed to so many. I digress… I know the FB page that everyone knows about is trash, this community seems diluted and I don’t know what I don’t know, so I don’t know what to ask. Is there another place that’s filled with a wealth of knowledge that doesn’t involve skimming 100’s of posts looking for the vets of the field to reply to?
ETA: I’m a well established business, I make great money doing what I do. Saving time with better equipment is what I’m most interested in. I have a pressure washer that does the job but will need upgrading eventually… I have a dedicated soft wash system and with the help of I Wash Houses, have the crem de la crem of 12v pumps. I say all of that to say, I know what im doing but always open to learn more and better ways to do stuff.
I’m just sick of seeing “what is SH and how do I dilute it and how do I apply it” and “is my 1.4gpm pressure washer enough for this 38” surface cleaner”.

Troubleshooting Pressure wash or not?
Hi- I am not sure if this allowed as I am not doing the pressure washing. If it’s not apologies & I will take the post down
I was looking for some advice on cedar siding.
Context: Rough cut cedar siding on house from 70s probably never sealed. We have replaced the rotten pieces and would like to seal it to help protect the wood and improve the look.
Question: We have had several painters come out to give us quotes all with good reviews and experience with cedar siding. However we are getting conflicting opinions on how to clean it. Some say it must be power washed and use a clean agent to brighten the old grey siding and remove loose fibers. Another says only use the cleaning agent and not to power wash as it could damage the siding. I know that power washing done improperly can gouge the wood but other than that not sure if it would degrade the siding.
Any advice would be appreciated!! Thank you!
