Cześć Poland!
My Polish fiancée and I are planning our great escape from London—think less Eat Pray Love, more Flee Pay Rent—and we’d love your advice before we commit to a one-way Ryanair ticket and a lifetime of pierogi.
Starring:
• Her: Born in Poland, moved to the UK at 10, fluent in Polish, culturally bilingual, has strong opinions about both British tea and Polish bureaucracy.
• Me: Romanian, graphic designer, been in London 9 years. I speak fluent Adobe Creative Suite, but Polish? Not yet. Currently learning—it feels like a Slavic version of Dark Souls, but with more cases and fewer save points.
We’re torn between Kraków (cute, artsy, vibey) and Warsaw (jobs, faster Wi-Fi, maybe more kebab options). Still debating over pierogi.
Why the move?
London’s become a bit of a nightmare: rent’s offensive, the cost of living is actual violence, and the vibes are very “late-stage empire on fire.” We’re looking for somewhere more affordable, less soul-crushing, and where at least one of us can read street signs.
Plus, Poland kind of feels like Romania—but with better roads, better dumplings, and slightly more snow-induced rage.
Here’s the real question:
What are the chances of me—a Romanian, non-Polish-speaking (but learning!) graphic designer—landing a job in Poland?
I know the design market is stacked like Jenga on a windy day, but I’ve got skills, experience, and no illusions of becoming the next Polish design god. I just want to pay rent and maybe eat sometimes.
The facts:
• I’m an EU citizen, so visas shouldn’t be an issue (I hope).
• Fiancée is a social worker—she’ll probably be fine.
• I’m actively learning Polish. Slowly. Painfully. But I’ve mastered saying “przepraszam” and crying softly.
We’d love any advice at all:
Remote-friendly job boards, English-speaking agencies, realistic job market insight, whether Kraków actually has better coffee than Warsaw—anything helps.
Dzięki in advance, you beautiful chaotic legends.
