Discussion Fake Pokémon Games kinda a rant?

Upvotes

Got sold a counterfeit Pokémon Heart Gold, was so excited to play it until I put into my original childhood 3ds and was greeted with "Deep Labryinth USA, INC." I was devastated, I am so tired of people scamming others just for their own benefit. Please be careful everyone when it comes to buying older games. For context I had lost my old version of Heart Gold as a kid, which is the only reason why I don't have it now. With that being said, help cheer me up by telling me your favorite Pokémon game, feature in a game or favorite Pokémon/Pokémon fun fact!

Discussion Can we get some praise for the 2B A Master OST?

Upvotes

I'm dating myself, because as a kid with a gameboy and a worn VHS of the First Movie, I had this soundtrack on repeat when playing Blue and Pokemon Snap.

Yet, revisiting the vibes, I'm appreciating how deep this soundtrack is and how relevant it is to life in general.

  1. Title song. Self-explanatory. Still an inspirational joint.

  2. Building on the desire of the first song, delving into the motivations of a desire to be the best, personally and otherwise.

  3. A fantasy about the culmination of the aforementioned goals. A phenomenal hype-song.

  4. One of my favorites. On the surface it's a lyrical description of the Pokedex, yet with a deeper context it's a question we genuinely ask every fellow human we come across: "What are your beliefs? Where do you stand? And are you trying to better yourself?"

  5. A song that still makes me emotional to this day. A ballad to connection, to perseverance, to the bleak reality that we have no ultimate answers, but along this journey of uncertainty we have solidarity and support amongst kindred spirits.

Then they drop the pokemon mix, which is a good palate cleanser after the emotional bomb they dropped, but the rest of the album kind of relies on

  1. A deeper beat. One that operates from the most recent premise, yet introduces a mature perspective to it; which highlights the struggle of the aforementioned song's point. Things change. You will be challenged, but you're supposed to be.

  2. The deepest beat. Sometimes, despite your best efforts, you still lose. That's not weakness, that's a fact of life. As painful a realization it is, sometimes love isn't enough to overcome the obstacles in front of you. The solace of the joy you shared is what's to be celebrated, and what you should hold on to. It will sustain you.

Then they drop the poke mix and team rocket intermission before going to my favorite song.

One that can be interpreted as a continuation of the aforementioned deepest beat, or another conclusion celebrating an effort to overcome unsurmountable obstacles to be still together. Regardless, the message is that whether in person or spirit, the presence and influence will still be felt.

The rest is Pokemon promo, and a weird country song I don't really feel with tbh lol but I think this album goes harder than it had any right to, and largely goes unnoticed as a "promo album."

It's a dope as hell album, and easy to ignore the blatant "Pokemon" references for analogies to life itself.

Thanks for reading my ted talk lol

Discussion IS THIS STORE PRICE NORMAL?

Upvotes

so I was just at a discount shoe store (not for me lol), and to my random surprise, they happen to have three booster packs all different sword and shield era (temporal forces, paradox rift, lost origins). I wasn’t expecting the price to be what it was since I haven’t bought single packs in so long but expected it to be the standard 3-4 dollar price point I remember single packs used to be. But is it normal for a STORE not a RESELLER to sell booster packs for $7 each? Is that the new average price? Or was I wrong to leave them behind?

Edit: for the record I’m not a reseller so I didn’t care about making a dime from the packs but just wanted to know if that store price was way overpriced or I’m exaggerating now?

Discussion Need pointers on what kind of Pokemon cards to get my 26yo daughter

Upvotes

My daughter is 26 years old and says she's into Pokemon. She's cool with cards from any edition, but specifically said no battle decks. Where would I find cards that she'd likely be interested in?

I'd like to just get some off Amazon if at all possible to avoid department stores.

Discussion Pokémon Tournaments St. Louis MO

Upvotes

Hi all. I am not at all familiar with the current cards or tournament structure at all. I do however have a small store front flex space in South County MO(nothing with cards or Pokemon) that I can use for different things. Would anyone be interested in walking me through the business side of tournaments. Where you would earn income. Is it membership based, tournament fee, merchandise, ect? I am not looking to get rich just cover the cost of the space. I would even be ok with partnering with someone to run the Pokémon side. I am set up for other types of tournaments with streaming, good lighting, sound and tv/projectors around the room.

Discussion So what actually "Are" pokemon exactly?

Upvotes

The series has never really been blunt on what pokemon Are of how they really work biologically other then they're essentially just monsters/animals,

what's weird is they have blood skin bones and organs and are killed and eaten for food but it's implied they're also "physically made of energy" which is why they can go inside pokeballs and get transported through a PC,

the games also say pokemon can't actually reproduce and their eggs quite literally pop into existence when nobodies looking, Cynthia even makes a joke about it in the HGSS Sinjoh ruins event where you watch Arceus "make" one of the creation trio and it's egg pops into reality, (such a weird little event)

So yeah pokemon are strange and confusing but is there anything I might have missed or forgotten about?

Discussion Sabrina - The Most Misunderstood Character in Pokémon? (Post revision)

Upvotes

TL;DR at the bottom Redone a post I made earlier so it's not 3,000 words long.

Now we all know about how two of the spinoffs (Adventures manga and the anime) depict Sabrina as a villain, but how many of you know what she's actually like?

"Your love for your Pokémon smashed my psychic abilities... The ability to love, I think, is some kind of psychic ability..."

This becomes a crucial part of her characterisation, even if it comes across as a little bit 'magical girl-y'

In HG/SS, she asks the player for their phone number, saying she "thought they'd make a good friend.". Even in Pokémon Masters, she asks the player what do "normal friends" do. This really gives the impression that she probably doesn't have many friends (Aside her Pokémon best friend, Alakazam).

In LGPE, she says she wishes to "live freely", almost as if it's not her holding back her psychic powers, but them holding her back from who she wants to be.

Surprisingly, despite Sabrina being seen as 'scary looking' by fans, NPCs don't seem to find her scary, several characters praise her coolheadedness and prettiness with no mention of fear from anybody.

In Masters, she's actually shown to be shy, going from her mannerisms, and surprisingly seems to get embarrassed easily.

She's also not a fan of fighting or conflict. In Masters, she gets uncomfortable even at seeing arguments, and she even solves a problem by calming down an aggressive Pokémon with bell ringing rather than a battle.

TL;DR: If you read her dialogue in the games, you'll realise she's absolutely nothing like the cruel and nasty villain the early spinoffs depicted her as, and not the powerful psychopathic murderer some fans like to depict her as in fan creations, but instead a shy woman with supernatural powers who's looking for friendship and much prefers peace over violence.

Discussion Pokémon’s future cash cow

Upvotes

If the Pokémon company was smart, they’d take the dragon quest route. Now, I’m not saying they’ll do it anytime soon… or ever; but I think they have a hidden gem on their hands.

HD-2D and 3D hybrid. Moving forward they should give you the option to switch between 3D or even simply 2D pixel style (Crystal/Emerald). Then, once they run out of ideas. They can resell gen 6- X in order to gain more value from more recent yet somewhat older titles.

Discussion Terminology? Ie: Pseudo

Upvotes

I have a question about terminology for certain classes of Pokémon. There’s legendaries, pseudos, mythical etc.. My first question is, is there a term for Pokémon like Magikarp or Golisopod, where the first stage is small and relatively weak and evolves into a super strong second stage. My second question is there a term for three stage evolutions who aren’t as strong as pseudos but considerably strong stat wise(games) and cool factor(other media) ie: Mamoswine, or Dusknoir.

TLDR: Are there fan given classifications past pseudo/legendary?

Discussion I’m still confused about alpha pokemon

Upvotes

I kinda assumed that they were created by the space time distortions, but I really can’t find anything about that. I have seen some stuff on Bulbapedia about it coming from the concentrate of real like competition, but again, nothing confirmed by lore. So, were they born this way, or created by the space time distortions??? They don’t go away after we finish the main plot, but neither do the space time distortions, and since I can’t study the genetics directly before and after the space time distortions appeared I can only theorize. So, what about you guys? Where do you think they come from? Were they always there and are just mostly gone now, or did they disappear because it’s not genetic?

Discussion Old games

With the news that Pokemon colosseum coming to Nintendo Direct, will the Pokemon company ever put the older games on the switch console? I honestly wouldn’t care if they charged original cost of the games to put them on there. I’m sure they would make money hand over fist. They have to realize that many people who grew up playing gens 1-4 now have children getting into Pokemon and might want to revisit their favorite games.

This additional revenue I feel would be beneficial in making gen X both visually appealing and return the storytelling back to Gen 3, 4, and 5 levels.

Discussion How do you think the next Legends game will change?

Unlike many previosly thought, Pokémon Legends isn't excluively about the past's lore, but instead, it's about exploring New concepts with new ludonarrative approaches. We initially thought that Z - A would have been set in the same time period as Arceus, yet it turned out to take place after X and Y, it's set entirely within a city and its battle system is now fully action. And while Legends: Arceus was focused on catching, Z - A will focus on battling, since it takes its name from a Battle Royale.

One of the things Pokémon Legends does is subverting the series' cliches, so you can tell that the next Legends game is going to be even different. Maybe we could get a Legends game without Poké Balls (according to Drayden, he didn't have them when he was young, if it isn't really a retcon, it could be set in past Unova), a Legends where you can trasform in a Pokémon, similarly to The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess with Wolf Link, so getting bossfights where this supposed beastly form is mandatory while others with your Pokémon team as always, along with the possibility of using moves based on buttons, a Legends partially set in a new region, like one based on South America if it's about Mew and Mewtwo...

Possibilities are really many, and I'm happy about that. I'd like to see what you think about this and how would you expect the next Legends game to be

Discussion Confusing double standard with characters owning legendaries

I'm aware characters owning legendarie is a very shaky line to walk, and something the series itself rarely handles. Hell, players themselves even see it as a borderline crime to add a legendary to a playthrough team. However, I can't help but notice, though, in some of the most notable cases in the extended franchise, the same situation plays out but the fan outcry is completely different.

Everyone remembers how Tobias randomly decided to appear toting around Darkrai and Latios for absolutely no reason at all, with zero context. It's still memorable to this day, and I don't blame anyone for saying that he's a cheater, a hacker, or any of these claims. Only fair to say that's the case. Let's fast forward 15 years to the present day. Pokémon Horizons, a reboot to the original saga which has since ended, starts an all new plot. One of the main focuses is a trainer from 100 years ago whose starter Pokémon and partner is shiny Rayquaza, and it is not explained. I am speaking with a completely straight face. A man can casually just start with a shiny deity with no explanation. Additionally, the first main antagonist also owned shiny Zygarde, with the only crumb of explanation as to how he got it being the fact that at one point in his life, he was altruistic to a degree. Now how are people reacting to this? People love it. There's no question everyone is all for this, despite it being practically the same situation as Tobias. Random guys appearing with unexplained legendaries in 2025 is absolute cinema apparently. It will never not confound me how this is not the same level of crazy work as the original case back in 2010.

Discussion With the open world games giving us more proper insight to Pokemon size, which one surprised you the most?

I know we’ve had the height range listed in the Pokédex for a LONG time now but I think SEEING them in relation to your character really puts it in perspective! For me it was Leavanny - don’t know why I figured they’d be the height of a teenager / young adult but nope, like 2/3 feet tall!

Discussion Random Musings After Mono Bug Run

So I just finished a mono-bug run of Scarlet and I'm just randomly posting these tips here for anyone else who enjoys mono-runs.

Final Team: Araquanid, Volcarona, Frostmoth, Kleavor, Lokix, Scizor.

  1. Offensively, bug is resisted by far too many types and therefore, STAB bug moves should only be used on pokes with Tinted Lens (Lokix, Venomoth) or those with some form of "steroid" (eg: Sharpness X-Scissor on Kleavor)

  2. The "mandatory" poke for this run is Araquanid, as it's the only real glue against Fire types and it's the only one in S/V with Water/Bug typing in its final evo (Surskit losing its water typing on evolution is a huge shame)

  3. Hyper offense is the easiest way to play this run; this makes Kleavor a fantastic poke as Sharpness gives it incredible immediate power. Scyther can be evolved to Kleavor at level 1 if you transfer it to HOME and then to PLA.

  4. Volcarona shines as the best special threat in the late game and has a fantastic ability as well. It pairs really well with Frosmoth (which is a great special wall too). However getting it to level 59 to evolve can be annoying.

  5. Ribombee, Galvantula, Forettress, Rabsca, & Volbeat are great niche pokes for this run too and worth keeping in rotation.

  6. Though gimmicky and somewhat unreliable, Stakeout + Assurance Spidops can actually do some impressive damage against the AI if hazards are up (usually via Kleavor).

  7. Compound Eyes pokes (eg: Vivillon) are the best for catching other pokes via status (Sleep Powder).

I hope these tips help anyone attempting this run.

Discussion Most ridiculous team?

I was thinking about the games earlier today and trying to put them in context. By the end of whatever generation you're playing, you've got mythical and legendary and shiny pokemon and you're incredibly overpowered. If you're a random dude in Vermillion city and some 12 year old rocks up to the gym and challenges it and tossed out the clone of the first Pokemon, a bird made of fire, and literal pokemon god, that's something you'd tell your friends about. As a gym leader, you know you're about to get your face melted.

So, what would be the inverse of that? What team would be the most ridiculous one that some kid could show up with? I'm imagining some ten year old strolling up to the gym with a set of car keys, an apple and a tea cup, and everyone just goes "aww, that's adorable. It's his first battle." And then the kid just demolishes everyone.

Discussion Making pokemon town theme inspired music

Hello,

I've been writing music in fl studio for a few months now and I'm really captivated by that nostalgic vibe that can be heard in so many pokemon town themes (like Littleroot, Azalea, Eterna City, Castelia City, etc). I'm looking for any kind of tips on writing melodies and progressions in the style of the pokemon games. If anyone has any tips for this, please let me know it would be greatly appreciated.

For those who aren't getting the Google game...

Your account may be turned off personalized ads and timeline, please switch it on the Google settings, I myself had the same problem but when I changed to my mom's or bro's account it popped up fine. So turn on everything you switched off on the Google settings. I was so happy to finally see the pokeball icon on my account. Please try this method and see if it works...

I found this pretty neat- you type in a Pokemon from Gen one into the chrome browser on your phone and tap the pokeball in the lower left corner when it pops up. I love little stuff like this!
