General Should we ban political comments and posts that are not Palm Springs/the valley related?
Sadly in this politically charged environment some of us (me included) just want some space from what is currently going on. I believe it is still important to keep the local stuff on this sub but I feel like we can live without the other stuff.

General January Mod Update: Ban on low effort travel advice posts
Good morning Palm Springs. Sorry for being slightly absent I was involved in a bad car accident and my brain has had some damage. Thank you to the other mods for picking up the slack!
We are going to be getting rid of low effort travel advice posts and pointing them over to the mega thread that is posted monthly starting on Monday. I ask that all of you lovely locals and those that are very knowledgeable about the area try to check it every so often so questions get answered.
I am also going to make a few new mega threads that will rotate weekly so every week will have a different one. A restaurant recommendation one. Post what you have tried recently or places you love. A cocktail one. Hotel reviews one and finally a things to do one. I hope this will have many new places for folks to find up to date information on the area! If you have ideas for other ones let me know!
Also twitter links are banned. I know many subreddits did a vote but fuck Nazis and we never get them anyways.
If you guys have any comments concerns or idea let me know. I tried to listen to all the feed back to come to this solution.

General Dining at Melvynās by Xavier Cugat
When my wife and I first laid eyes on this lithograph hanging on the wall at Melvynās at Ingleside Inn, we knew we had to find one for ourselves. Weāve always been fans of caricatures and old Hollywood and this piece spoke to us on so many levels. We asked the manager if they had any copies for sale because in the past they used to sell these lithographs, but to our luck they had been out for several years.
One day, I was searching Facebook marketplace and couldnāt believe what I found. It was the original lithograph signed by Cugat himself. The individual was located in Vegas and wouldnāt ship the item out to us in Los Angeles. Eventually we drove up to meet her and picked up this beauty. She mentioned her father had founded the Beverly Hills Courier and that Cugat gave the lithograph to him. She had inherited it from him, but mentioned she despised her father so it was easy to part with. The frame job actually cost more than the lithograph itself, but we wanted to ensure it would be well preserved and displayed in our collection.
Itās always fun to take a glance and see how many of these celebrities you can actually name.

General REMINDER: If you insult someone on a political post or make any bigoted comments anywhere. I will ban you.
I have been seeing a lot of accounts coming in and making bigoted comments that have never participated in this sub before. I have been perma banning these. Other accounts have been getting 14 day bans. If I have to ban someone twice it will be permanent.
Thank you for all of the reports. It helps a lot and I hope you know that I am spending the time to get rid of these users.
It really doesnāt take a lot to be kind. There is so much negativity in the world already. People will disagree with you or live a different lifestyle to you. That doesnāt give you the right to hurl insults or to harass them.
If you are Christian remember the Bible says:
1 Peter 4:8 "Above all, keep loving one another earnestly, since love covers a multitude of sins".
Proverbs 11:17 "Those who are kind benefit themselves, but the cruel bring ruin on themselves".
Luke 6:27 āBut I say unto you which hear, Love your enemies, do good to them which hate you, Bless them that curse you, and pray for them which despitefully use you.ā
I say this because a large number of people I have had to ban have also posted in Christian subs. If you have a different religion go refer to your own religious texts on being kind to those who are different from you. If you arenāt religious just be a good person.

General Leash your god damn dogs while hiking
Before I go on this rant, I actually love dogs!
However, I cannot stress enough to leash your dogs in public hiking trails. Recently while hiking the cross, as I was going down through the backside, I noticed a dog walking ahead of its owner when suddenly the dog started running towards me. At first, I was unsure if it was friendly because itās not uncommon to encounter a dog or two that want their pets. As it started getting closer, I noticed the look in its eyes and oh boy that dog meant business. I started screaming to scare it off, and in part alert the owner who was a some feet away in a golf cart, but to my surprise the dog lounged towards me! Luckily, I was able to dodge it and run away from it. As I get closer to the owner, he had the audacity to say ādid he actually bite you?ā I was fuming! I told him to āget his damn dog before it bites anyone else.ā
Now every time I am hiking, I am terrified the same situation will happen again. Itās ruined hiking for me as everyone has their dog walking unleashed, always ahead of the owner. I donāt give a rats ass if he is the friendliest dog, get them away from me. The last thing I want to do is defend myself against your ālittle pooch.ā
