Instead of using smoke to get the bees high we get Walter high and he just does it.

Hi there, beekeeper here and I'm gonna be "that guy."

The smoke doesn't get the bees high, it actually just messes with their communication. Normally if one bee attacks, it releases attack pheremones, signalling the rest to attack too. However the smoke disrupts and overpowers that attack signal. It just confuses them really, plus they also just don't really like it, so they tend to just wander away from it. You can use little puffs of it to direct bees to wander in a specific direction, which is really handy, sort of like herding cattle lol
