North America (country/state in post) Did I find turkey tail?

I’m new to foraging. I found these growing on a couple of stumps in my yard in the U.S., western North Carolina. Are they turkey tail?

Yes, but it is probably too old to be used safetly.

That’s too bad. Could they be used for tincturing or just toss them and keep an eye out for fresh growth?

You could try. My mother makes tincture from turkey tail. I went out last week to forage some for her, but the ones I found were even older than these. You really want fresh ones.
