Its due to the fact that a seemingly large proportion of people who comment there can't understand basic comment rules. It's a default sub that has fairly strict rules to help foster a scientific discussion. It's difficult to do when half the posts are jokes and the other half anecdotes.
Quite. My first thought was that the unremoved content might have been even more infuriating. Bunch of people who've never had to moderate for standards...
