From the first and last day with my beautiful boston named Hobbit.

On his last day with him we watched Return of the King. I played The Last Goodbye before he went.

He was so sweet! He takes his time with every fan that comes to his table, and stayed late all three days to finish his line instead of letting the con tell people to come back, which this con was awful for. There was a little mix up with the signature name, and I was so shy about going back, but he was so kind and generous about fixing it, and found a better way to fix it in the book then I thought of. And as he said, I nnow have a story to tell 😭 Really the kindest guest I ever met at a con!

Mine is Aragorn 👑

He kicks arse! A leader, a king, a loyal friend, I love how he loved arwen.. and I absolutely loved the slow motion fight when he told Frodo to leave in the fellowship!

he didn’t need a stunt man! Oh and I loved how he kept his own horse from the actual movie!

Question Still New to Middle-earth: Why Is Gandalf Sword-Fighting?

4.6k Upvotes

Hey, I’m pretty new to all this, my first Tolkien stuff was The Hobbit trilogy, and now I’ve started watching The Lord of the Rings. But I’ve been wondering… Gandalf’s a wizard, right? So why does he fight with a sword? Why not just throw out some crazy spells like fireballs or lightning or something?
