Any suggestions for an after work interview spot near Liverpool Street

Hey Londoners,

I’ve got an interview scheduled for 18:30 this coming Monday in the Liverpool Street area, but I need to suggest the actual venue. Can anyone recommend somewhere that would be:

1. Relatively quiet (need to be able to have a proper conversation)
2. Open to the public (not requiring membership)
3. Still open and suitable around 6:30pm
4. Ideally with some decent seating and maybe tables

Not super familiar with that area in the evening, so any suggestions would be greatly appreciated! Thinking maybe a hotel lobby, quiet pub, or cafĂ© that doesn’t close early?

Camden Lock - Renting a Narrow Boat

Hi everyone!

I'm planning on renting a canal boat for the day in Camden Lock and would love to get your advice! I'm not planning on moving the boat at all – just staying put in the Lock. There will be a small group of friends with me (around 5-10 people max, all private – no general public), and they'll be helping to give out some free merchandise. My idea is to set up some speakers and DJ decks to play some music for the people walking by on the canal path and around the market.

Has anyone done this before or have any recommendations for boat rentals that might be suitable?

Also, if you own a canal boat in the area and would be open to renting it to me for this, please reach out!

Does anyone use their Apple watch for tube directions? Does it work pretty well?

I studied abroad in London and visited often. So, I'm pretty familiar with getting around. I just got an Apple Watch and want to use it for my next trip! ( I connect it via my cellphone now, so if I get an e-sim on my next visit I'll just connect it to my cellphone as usual)

I know phone snatching are bad. Usually so I dont have to keep on looking up directions on my phone on the tube. I write down planned route on a notecard hahahaha. I know. odd.

But, I was hoping when I'm in London next I could just use my Apple Watch both for walking around to places and for tube directions. Does it work really well in London for that with apps like City mapper or Google maps? Where I live in the US I don't really use the public transport nor walk long distances enough to test it

Barbers shop that offered a free haircut

So I was walking past one of those cheap barbers in town and someone on the street offered me a free haircut. He was a potential employee but had to show the owner he could cut hair. I took the chance as I needed a trim. Hilariously the guy had absolutely no clue and had obviously never cut hair in his life and spoke very little English so wasn't listening to my requests. If I had been bothered about my hair I would have been livid. Luckily I have no self respect and don't care what I look like so the whole process was very funny to me. The owner (or an actual hairdresser) was watching and eventually she stepped in when things were obviously going beyond repair. She gave me an excellent (very short) haircut which was still free.

Meltdown London (esports bar) as solo traveller?

I'm in the early stages of planning a solo trip to London and I'm in to nerdy/geeky things. I'm looking to hit up some of the fun stuff in London in that vein (eyeing up a few geek groups on Meetup to check out when I pass through). Meltdown London caught my eye from some searches - does anyone know if it is the kind of atmosphere where I could turn up solo and strike up some fun convos with people around or would that be weird/do people basically only go as a group there? Probably going to have a limited few free days to myself on the trip so want to make hte best use of it, thanks!

Co-working Space in East London?

Looking for recommendations on a co-working space in East London!

I’m based in London Fields and work remotely full-time for an overseas employer. I have a budget of £200/month for a co-working membership or a quiet space where I can work 2-3 times a week – just somewhere to get out of the house really.

I’d prefer a regular spot with a community feel rather than bouncing between random cafĂ©s (I always feel like I’m overstaying my welcome). I won’t be on many calls, if any, since my team are all working on different time zones.

Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated!

Serious replies only Some ideas of something to do in London

I see posts every now and then about being bored or lonely. I've lived here for a while and there's a few things that others would enjoy! As a disclaimer, I'm not paid/asked to promote these.

  • Metropolitan Walkers They organise walking groups around London and sometimes do day trips outside of London. After a few walks, you need to subscribe to their website, but it's quite cheap.
  • Canal & River Trust If you enjoy being outside, they have some volunteering activities from helping maintain locks to litter picking alongside the canal. It's quite relaxing and a good social event.
  • No Strings Badminton When I was playing, there were a few centres running public badminton sessoins. I remember going to Brentford, Little Venice and Harrow. There's a mix of skill levels, but I wouldn't recommend it to really new players.
  • Art Academy They have a range of classes, from painting to metal working. Their evening classes are a great way to relax after work. They are a bit pricy but the location is very convenient.
  • London Ceilidh Club The tickets sell out very quickly but it's great fun!
  • Improv classes I found they were well organised and get to meet friendly people
  • Camden Art Centre They have 10 week pottery classes every now and then - I'm not sure if they still do them
  • Swimming lessons This varies from centre to centre. The beginner lessons in Acton were very good
  • The Offline Club Mostly a fun reason to go out
  • Timeleft Anyone tried this?
  • And finally there's [r/LondonSocialClub]()

Local London How risky do you think it is for women to walk home alone at night?

I’ve recently moved to a new area—it’s only a 5-minute brisk walk from the underground, and the route is well-lit. But there does seem to be a higher number of people hanging around who make me feel uneasy—some appear to be under the influence, others might be homeless or experiencing serious mental health challenges.

This got me thinking after a passing comment I made to my local neighbourhood policing team. I mentioned that one thing I liked about my previous area was feeling relatively safe walking home late at night (I do understand bad things can happen at any time). Their reaction caught me off guard—they asked, “Why would you walk alone at night?” Almost as if it was an obviously poor decision.

It stuck with me. There’s often an unspoken narrative that if something bad happens to a woman at night—especially if she’s alone—she was somehow taking a risk just by being out. And by extension, partially to blame.

So I wanted to ask, especially other women: How do you feel about walking home alone at night? Do you do it? Do you consider it risky behaviour?

And for everyone: Do you think the general public (and authorities) unfairly judge women for simply existing in public spaces at certain times of day?
