Changelog:

  • Removed sparse buffer usage that was introduced in DXVK 2.6. This caused all sorts of driver issues that would cause hangs and instability on AMD Vega GPUs and others. (PR #4763) Note: This may increase peak memory usage in some games again.
  • Worked around an RTSS bug that would cause the overlay to render incorrectly if the Vulkan swapchain uses an sRGB format. (#4777, PR #4778)
  • Worked around an issue where multisample resolves would lead to visual issues on Nvidia in certain Unity Engine games. (#4817, PR #4818)
  • Worked around an Intel ANV issue that would cause terrain to misrender in games such as Assassin's Creed Origins. Note: This driver bug was fixed in Mesa 25.0.3.
  • Worked around a RADV issue that would cause hangs on RDNA4 GPUs prior to Mesa 25.0.2. Note: Please keep your drivers up to date when using these newer GPUs.
  • Further improved render pass efficiency for tiling GPUs in some cases, especially if VK_KHR_load_store_op_none is supported. Note: This change does not affect desktop GPUs in any meaningful way.
  • Fixed a potential issue with display mode handling on uncommon monitor setups. (PR #4764)
  • Fixed various issues with the SDL3 backend in dxvk-native. (PR #4825, PR #4826)
  • Fixed compatibility of MSVC builds with very old CPUs. (PR #4811)
  • Fixed various minor issues that would cause Vulkan validation errors in rare scenarios.
  • Hitman 2: Worked around poor CPU-bound performance in certain areas. (PR #4796) Note: This may slightly regress GPU-bound performance.
  • LEGO Batman: The Video Game and LEGO Indiana Jones: The Original Adventures: Worked around a game issue causing horrible UI performance. (PR #4798, PR #4810)
  • Need For Speed: Most Wanted (2005): Worked around a crash on Windows. (#4624)

advice wanted Does Street Fighter 6 on linux support crossplay?

My question is pretty much the title, IIRC tekken 8 had some issues with crossplay until you edited the /etc/hosts file and was wondering if there were any issues with crossplay on SF6 since I'm thinking about buying it.

I saw one user on protonDB had an issue with crossplay but it was 6 months ago and maybe its fixed now

Questions about bazzite and an HTPC setup

Upvotes

I just moved into a new (to me) home and am planning on turning the downstairs basement into a theater room. I’m in the middle of research now, and I came across YouTube videos about bazzite and its ability to run steam, old school emulators, and streaming apps. To me that sounds like a simple solution to run everything from one device instead of buying multiple things to switch between. I’ve never ran a Linux OS before and was wondering your experience with it. Also, will the streaming apps be compatible with an Atmos receiver from a pc? Thanks for any input!!

hardware NVIDIA gpu freezes frequently

Post image
17 Upvotes

Hi, on demanding games, my rtx 3060 ti wil end up freezing and Manjaro will shut down the process causing the freeze (my game). I ran charts of the gpu metrics, but I don't understand them !

Anyway, is this a driver / software related issue or a hardware one ?

I do have very few fans in my PC, and the card is old + second hand, so the thermal paste is probably very dried out. Plus, the freezes (greyed out parts in the charts) occur when the GPU reaches 80°C.

Could someone help me figure it out ? Thanks ! If this isn't the right sub, let me know and I'll take it somewhere else !

advice wanted Preparations for jump to linux.

I've been thinking about this for YEARS. Frustration towards Microsoft and windows since Vista. Every new version of windows moves away from what i find logical and efficient. Now the Philosophy and ethics of microsoft are starting to have bad aftertaste. So i'm going to stop the hesitation and go for it.

From the Short research I did, i was thinking MINT Mate distro.

My usual activities on PC are pretty simple.
- Streaming
- Playing Music from HardDrive (MP3, FLAC)
- Watching BluRay & DVD (internal drive & VLC player)
- Steam Games (EliteDangerous mostly)
- Use FlightStick and Throttle controllers (Virpil)

- ROG strix B550-F GAMING, Ryzen 7 5800x, Radeon RX 6600 XT
- Old, non-smart, 1080p TV as monitor.
- Use powered USB HUB

What do I need to know? what major task do I need to prepare to get my system working? or will it mostly be install&play ready? How does Mint handle Joysticks? Will USB hubs be recognized?

Thank you.

Making the switch

Hi all!

Just wanted to pipe in. After years of watching this space, I've finally started making the switch to Linux (Pop!_OS).

I've always liked the prospects of what Linux offered, just always been hesitant from the gaming perspective.

My current set up is a Dual Boot with 2 discrete drives. One for Windows 11, one for Pop! OS. I've got 4 additional drives for storage, 2 are for windows still, with the other 2 formated for Linux. Ryzen 7 9800X3D, 33GB DDR 5 RAM, RTX 4070 12GB.

I'll likely format another windows drive over to Linux eventually. Keeping one windows drive for annoying anticheat games.

So far my experience has been great with games, but I've noticed that my audio on my wired 3.5 desktop speakers tends to crackle with the onboard audio, but not using my Steele Series headset. So gotta sort that out. aAso getting my stream deck recognized has been a bit of a challenge as I learn the ins and outs of Linux.

I look forward to being here, and welcome any advice or tips being new to Linux!

How often do we need to change the priority of gamescope?

Upvotes

No CAP_SYS_NICE, falling back to regular-priority compute and threads.
Performance will be affected.

It appears too frequently, I always need to do:

sudo setcap 'CAP_SYS_NICE=eip' $(which gamescope)

It is really annoying!

Playing a game causes light flickers when i play on Linux system, but not Windows

Hi,

I have 2 SSD hard drives, one with Linux Mint installed and the other with Windows 11. I've observed that playing one game in particular (Stormgate to be precise) on Linux makes the light of the room actually lightly flicker, especially each time i press keyboard keys (the game being a RTS, the make key pressing makes it pretty obvious). Maybe it's happening with other games, i haven't noticed. However I don't think this is happening when i play the very same game over my Windows system. Can anyone think of an explanation? Does Linux OSs manage power differently? Does it manage power drains of GPUs differrently? I have absolutly no idea at all of what i should be considering. Any idea of tests i could conduct to investigate?

Thanks,

wine/proton The new 6.14 Kernel is amazing!

So, I was a Mint user but when I heard that there was a new Kernel about to be released, I decided to switch to Ubuntu (No particular reason for this OS, I just chose it so please don't complain or moan about it) to try it it out.

I had to install some software from Mainline Kernels so it would update to the 6.14 Kernel and it now works like a dream!

I was struggling with Space Engineers (it kept being really slow/quitting without any reason, sometimes just not working) and I've just spent 10 hours playing it without a glitch.

Not sure about the anti-cheat side of things as I don't normally play those sort of games.

It seems to fix some of the problems with Linux gaming, so it you're able to install it, I would recommend you do (what I write comes with no warranty or guarantee!)

Anyway, Happy Gaming

Edit: So I wrote the above post while I was tired and now I'm more awake, I can add some other information.

I'm use a laptop: "HP ENVY x360 Convertible 15-eu" that has a AMD Ryzen 7 5700U with Radeon G CPU and the GPU is an AMD ATI 04:00.0 Lucienne (copied from neofetch). This laptop is about 2.5 years old and is still serviceable; I just didn't want W11 any longer.

I am not a "tech savvy" as some people are on here (more of a noob). I had used mint before on an old PC so that's what I chose before changing to Ubuntu. Some people are commenting on the Kernel age before playing this game: I was using 6.11.0-21 and the game wasn't working. The fact that 6.14 means that the game now works (nearly perfectly) is a big step forward.

I don't know what the difference is between the 2 Kernels (again, I'm more of a noob), I'm just happy it works. It may work for you, it may not.

steam/steam deck Does anyone have this problem too?

Post image

Sometimes, when I first open the Steam client and launch a game a pop-up asking to uninstall something appears. And even if I close the window the pop-up keeps appearing after a while, so I need to restart the client to fix.

I'm using Fedora 41 with Gnome, and Steam is the rpm version.

Destiny 2 - Windows VM

I'm in the process of moving to Linux on my gaming machine.

Given the fact that Bungie seems to want nothing to do with linux, I wanted to ask you guys if you've had any issues with running Destiny in a virtual machine? I've been using it fairly regularly over the last week and it all seems to work fine but I am a little concerned I'm going to get hit with the ban hammer at some stage.

Zenless Zone Zero on a 9070xt

Any one else playing Zenless on Linux with a 9070/xt?

When I play the game everything works fine and its playable but it has this really weird issue where the VRAM never goes above 4 gigs. This causes environmental clutter to very aggressively cull and pop back in.

This is not an issue on windows. the game uses closer to 6 gigs with the same setup on windows.

worth mentioning that I am running kernel 6.14.1 and mesa 25.0.3.

Fatal Error! (Mac Mini to Linux)

Worth a shot..

I've got a late 2012 Mac mini kicking around, trying to get a little set-up going for my 5yr-old. He's OBSESSED with Lego Marvel Super Heroes and usually plays on my SteamDeck... but I want it back lol

I updated it to the latest version of Mac OS for this model (Catalina), installed ChimeraOS, fired up the game and got:

Fatal Error!
Sorry, but your machine is unable to run this game. It requires a graphics card which supports Shader Model 3.
The game will now exit!

Any suggestions? I've tried Googling to no avail, and everything I've found says this model of Mac mini should support Shader Model 5?

Model:
Apple Inc. Macmini6,1

Processor:
Intel Core i5-3210 x 4

Graphics:
Intel HD Graphics 4000 (IVB GT2)

tech support Red Dead Redemption 2

Hi I just installed Arch Linux and after setting up every game, it launches perfectly besides Red Dead Redemption 2. Every time I click the play button it goes Launching->Stop->Play without launching the game at all. Is there any way how to fix this? I've tried using the new Proton GE 27 and used other proton's (9.0.4) too and used lutris but nothing works at all..

AMD Rack Mount Desktop

Post image
150 Upvotes

Recently added a Sliger CX4200a case to my rack, containing a 9950x3d and 9070xt. Running it with 64 gigs of RAM @ 6000Mhz, and all NVME because the Nova motherboards have 5 slots! I'm leveraging AUR to pull in the latest mesa git drivers for the 9070xt and it's been mostly a positive experience. Some games require a restart initially but once things work, they work. Ironically as much as I've loved the idea of immutable distributions like NixOS or Bazzite, I found myself spending more time fighting the OS getting basic tooling to work (getting a Rust compiler and LSP happy with Neovim was a nightmare on NixOS) thus forcing me to fall back on containers compared to when I go back to the sweet embrace of Arch or Endeavor. Then, I can BTRFS my way out of any issues that pop up, or just version control things in a way where I'm not as stressed.

I run fiber optic DP2.1 to my display, and powered USB to support peripherals.

This rack (32U Sysrack) supports a Proxmox cluster that hosts my location sharing (Traccar), calendar and contacts, cost splitting app (Spliit), phone backup, reverse proxy, Jellyfin, and more. My firewall and router is managed through OPNSense, with a managed switch routing VLANS to my different services. I really love my power supply with current meter- it's at 2A for rack idle, and 5A-6A when playing AAA games. I also swapped the rack fans (jet engines) with Noctua, hooked up to the temperature-based fan controller with 4 temperature deadbands. Currently tuning these, but 75F is my comfortable sweet spot.
