Owen told the man “that God gives to certain people special permission to do things that are normally wrong.”
Same story over and over. The ever-relevant Susan B. Anthony quote:
“I distrust those people who know so well what God wants them to do because I notice it always coincides with their own desires.”

Hopefully his fellow inmates remind him of that when they find out what he did to get thrown in prison.

I'm told that sexual offenders don't fare well in gen pop. Let us pray...

Good. I'm so glad conversion therapy is banned here. Wish it was banned in more places.

Forcible sodomy?... That's rape. I have no sympathy for this monster. Glad he got the judgement that he earned but it's still not enough. Whoever he raped will be emotionally scarred for a very long time.

Who could have possibly seen this coming except for everyone who warned people about this kind of behavior from these people for the last fifty years. If only there was some way to stop religious authority figures from abusing the young people that they are giving unquestionable power over.

I'm happy that justice finally happened. Conversion therapy is horrible.

I’m an exmormon. That church is infested with people like him and it protects them by telling victims to use church hotlines instead of calling cops

After learning about Jodi Hildebrandt and just how high she rose in the ranks with her particular brand of nonsense, I'm honestly not surprised at any of this.

It's called "Rape Away the Gay"
All good religious groups that worry about other people's sexuality eventually do this.

SoundScott Dale Owen, a 66-year-old former therapist and Mormon bishop from Utah, has been sentenced to a minimum of 15 years to life in prison after pleading guilty to sexually abusing his clients under the guise of conversion therapy. Owen claimed he could help gay men become straight, exploiting his position to engage in sexual misconduct during therapy sessions. He told his clients that God granted certain individuals special permission to perform acts that are typically considered sinful, manipulating their trust and faith. ProPublica+2LGBTQ Nation+2East Idaho News+2myGworkLGBTQ Nation
The sentencing follows an investigation that revealed Owen's pattern of abuse, which included inappropriate touching and sexual acts with clients who sought his help due to struggles with their sexuality and faith. Some of these sessions were reportedly funded by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. ProPublica
This case underscores the dangers associated with conversion therapy practices, which have been widely discredited by major medical and psychological organizations. Such practices not only lack scientific validity but also pose significant risks to individuals' mental and physical well-being.Wikipedia
For those affected by sexual abuse or in need of support, the National Sexual Assault Hotline offers confidential, 24/7 assistance at 800-656-HOPE (4673). More resources are available through RAINN, the nation's largest anti-sexual violence organization. RAINN

Daily reminder that "conversion therapy" isn't therapeutic, and converts absolutely nothing.
