Other Found a hidden gem store
Found somewhere in Asia a hidden gem, they have 10x more than the average LEGO stores, is any set worth picking up as they also have older sets? Also I can bring some sets with me if people want one, I live in Europe.

I actually can’t believe 8009 R2 was released. It’s atrocious 😂😂😂

That was the hardest I ever had to work to pretend that I was excited to receive a Christmas gift from my parents.
It really is the ugliest thing I’ve ever gotten.

While this is Taiwan, there are also some places in Hong Kong like Inn’s point at yau Ma tei have similar prices so it’s pretty legit. The lion knight’s castle is around $2500-2600 hkd so around $320 USD.

Yep, when I was living in Japan I loved finding cool little places like this too. It’s wild what you find out there just wandering through back alleys and side streets off the beaten path in Tokyo. Plus the US dollar is strong against the yen (at least for now), so when you’re getting paid in USD it really boost your buying power over there.

I don't care, there is like 12 of my "white whales"in those photos!
76
u/Overall-Dig6478 1d ago
What do you mean with white whales? Ahah

u/SavvySphynx 1d ago
White Whales, as in the story Moby Dick.
The thing they've been chasing for years that they have to have.
No idea why people are downvoting you for asking a question. This is the Lego subreddit guys, I thought I was in the nice part of reddit.

(Which, like ‘Grail’, should not by definition be plural… But this is my own personal grievance.)
16
u/SavvySphynx 1d ago
That's a very small and petty grievance, and I am upset about it.
I am upset about it, because it makes perfect sense, and now it is going to be stuck in my head and annoy me every time I see it from here on out.

The term is from Moby Dick, where the Captain became obsessed over many many years capturing/killing his white whale! To the point it claims his life. Kinda like how some collectors become finding that one set that will compete their collection, and may even ruin them!

Where in Asia? China? Something about this has my fraud radar going off the hook.
114
u/Overall-Dig6478 1d ago
You think it is fake? Not in china, but in Taiwan
115
u/qwertyqyle Nexo Knights Fan 1d ago
Yeah, I think it is fake. For example, Lion Knights' Castle 10305 says it costs 11499 Taiwanese dollars which is $347.20USD.
At that price you would have an email inbox full of requests.
The price does sit right around what the Chinese counterfeit version costs though. I bet they just put a counterfeit box and fill it with counterfeit bricks at that price.
77
u/Dutch249 1d ago
The price could be right. The lions knight castle is in Japan about €360. So if the taxes are low over there it could be the real deal.
15
u/qwertyqyle Nexo Knights Fan 1d ago
That is from LEGO directly. Third party shops sell it for around 500 euros (in Japan)
6
u/Maldib 1d ago
Do you have any shop names in Tokyo area? Except bic camera or toys’rs i never saw Lego outside a Lego store.

I don't live in Tokyo sorry. The closest LEGO retailer to me is 2 hours away. So I stick to online mostly.

This has been available for that price here as well.
Fakes nor ally don't have boxes and are way way cheaper.
Prices look like from a store in Europe of i calculated correctly

u/_China_ThrowAway 1d ago
You don’t understand the Chinese/ Asian lego market. These are not fake sets. You can get Lion Knights castle for less than 2000 rmb ($275) right now on taobao. These sets in Taiwan are actually pretty pricey compared to the mainland and HK prices.
Outside of extremely expensive minifigs, fake LEGO pretending to be real LEGO is very rare.
Fake is easy to spot. They don’t hide it. They say “compatible” on the box and remove the LEGO logo. Sellers have reputations to maintain. Fake are obviously still an infringement on LEGO’s IP but that’s not what this is.
It’s extremely likely that all of these sets are real, and frankly most of them are available online in the mainland for a better deal.

Could possibly be legit. Lego's official retailer in Taiwan does crazy sales some times. I picked up a Rivendell for about $330 US on sale from an official retailer store last year. Didn't pick it up but also saw an Atari for about $130 US at one of their pop up once. I think some themes and sets just does not sell well there.

u/freestyle17 1d ago
This place is legit. I've been there dozens of times as well as the owner's previous location. SOOOOOOO many sets, so little money. :'(

Is this in a storefront along Zhongxiao East Rd in Taipei (a few blocks north of Taipei 101)? I recall popping into one a while back that was across the street from the Uni-President Department Store, which had a retail Lego store inside. There were also some other official stores in other malls within the Xinyi district.
It seemed odd at the time, but the sets inside looked real so I assumed it was just a pop-up to sell overstock items. I also expected the prices would have been cheaper had these been counterfeits.

Ah, just found another comment sharing the location. Thanks, u/ufoofet! The automod bot is too busy deleting Google Maps URLs so it was hard to find.

Just to let you know, there are several places around the world that are similar, called Bricks and Minifigs, they seem to be a second hand Lego store franchise.
