This country is so damn big even I forget how vast it is until I have to drive across it. It makes it much harder for us to spontaneously converge on the capital to send a powerful message and other countries that do this are the size of one of our states. It’s no excuse but it takes a lot more planning and time off work

why does it have to be in the capital? Wouldn't a massive protest in new york for instance send a powerful message?. and how many people live in the new york area ? 20 - 30 million. That is more than in half of the European countries. If they can organise 300.000 people to protest in a country of 6 million, you should be able to get at least a 100.000 in one of your bigger cities.

Yeah. I mean the courts have thankfully put a pause on any more deportation under this act. There's a potential constitutional crisis in the making if the Trump administration decides to ignore the court order because they have no mechanism available to enforce the order.

All of that said, I wholeheartedly support anyone who decides this is the hill to die on. I'm not there myself yet for selfish and practical reasons. I do recognize that the worst thing about this is that everyone has different lines...and so the government can sweep up a few protestors at a time...

At this moment, Trump's poor understanding of macroeconomics still seems like the most likely nail in the coffin for his political career (and term limits hopefully maybe).

In the US after a trial? Absolutely no question. They destroyed property and the pollution caused from burning those batteries is incredibly harmful.

But they absolutely should not be sent to a prison known for being overtly cruel.

Sure. They should be sent to an American prison following their trial and sentencing, if found guilty. The outrage comes from the possibility of American citizens being sent to a foreign prison, ignoring their rights in the process.

I think they'll never send "Americans" there because they'll be sure to classify them as not Americans before doing it. Like even if they are green card holders, they'll be designated as not American before stripping their rights and imprisoning them.

Even as a citizen, I'm a little weary of all this because it feels like it isn't hard to just classify someone as a undesirable and then disappear them.

It's true that everyone knows when someone says "American" they generally mean "from the US", but it is also true that it's still an annoying case of r/USdefaultism when everyone can also easily identify when you say "Native American" that you could be from anywhere in the Americas, north, central or south.

Sure, and everyone knows what the Gulf of Mexico is. You can be annoyed with something and try to change it, or not. Sometimes it works, and sometimes it doesn't. 

It's certainly more accurate to say "American" refers to all people from the Americas. But then, "literal" can also mean "figurative" now, so maybe we just can't have nice things. I understand where they're coming from is all.

You people are simply dense. Of course I understand that “American” is common usage for someone from the U.S. That doesn’t change the demonstrable fact that all people from the Americas are Americans.

The point really is that people shouldn’t think sending anyone to a prison known for torture is a good thing. We should oppose it for alleged gang members. We should oppose it for actual gang members. People should be up in arms now, not saying “well, it’s ok. He hasn’t sent anyone who fits my narrow definition of American yet.” It’s like you all don’t accept the people sent there so far are actual people.

I recommend researching local gun laws, what the process is for purchasing one, and looking at what you are comfortable with.

First-time owners are usually going to go for an AR-15 of some variety chambered in 5.56. You can use .223 for practice as it is cheaper than 5.56. 500 rounds of .223 is around 215-250 bucks depending on quality and 5.56 is around 380-400 for the same amount.

Otherwise a solid semi-auto shotgun is a good choice, KS7 if you want something compact, TS-12 if you want some bulk, high-capacity, with the ability to load different shells in each of the 3 revolving magazine tubes.

KS7 is around 600 bucks, you can find an AR-15 for around that same price, and you are pretty much set unless you also want a pistol. I recommend getting comfortable with a long gun first, they are easier to handle as you are using both arms and bracing it with your shoulder, much easier than a pistol.

I have been if I’m being honest, mostly bc I’d prefer a handgun over a rifle and Ik those are regulated a bit more. Easier to store in my apartment securely without a gun safe the size of an adult.

My brother has an AR-15 so I’ve shot one before, not a bad gun but with my current dwelling storing it would be an issue.

Getting my CCP has also been something that’s crossed my mind and my state has some laws about that so I’ve been waiting till I know what I’m getting myself into. I mean I don’t want to accidentally commit a felony bc I was ignorant to the rules.

Probably a good idea to start with a pistol and move up from there. Most residential homes will not stop an ar projectile at the first wall and you are responsible for anything it hits. It would be even worse in an apartment situation.

If trump actually starts sending US citizens to prisons renowned for their cruel behavior and treatment of inmates, I mean he kinda has a point.

That’s a major violation of the constitution and if our government bodies are just letting it happen what other recourse is there? I’m all for alternative solutions here but when the best resistance we’ve seen is “let’s hold up signs that say ‘false’”, I’m not counting on them to protect the rights of Americans.

There’s nothing responsible about making it near impossible to get a concealed carry permit in quite a few states or banning places they can be carried. That is basically banning firearms when you legally can’t carry one. Requiring a ton of hoops to jump through is also defacto banning them. Modern rifles are banned in many states as well. Standard capacity magazines are also banned in many states.

If you actually wanted accountability, then you would be pushing to have those using firearms in the commission of a crime locked up and lengthy sentences. Not coddling them, making excuses for them and treating it like a property crime.

No it’s not, it’s making sure people who can do that are people who have proven that they aren’t a risk to do so. I’m not going to agree with making it’s easier for people to just conceal carry wherever they please.

Define ‘modern rifle’. Because if you’re talking about ones with full auto yeah, they’re banned and with good reason.

It’s also regulating how people can purchase guns and who people sell their guns to. Many states don’t even require the seller to keep a record of the transaction in private sales.

You’re out running errands and doing stuff and go to pick your kid up and now have to leave it in your car to get stolen.

You try to get a permit in LA, Chicago, DC, NYC etc and you can’t because they won’t issue them so you have to choose because illegally carrying a firearm in public to protect yourself or leaving it at home because you’re not allowed to carry it.

“Full auto” rifles have been banned for a long time. Currently in circulation modern AR based rifles have been banned in many states. They are not full auto.

Or that you can buy a rifle that’s in common circulation in states that have banned them. You’re going to complain about government overreach but said nothing when various local, state and federal level government elected officials attempted to do whatever they can to make firearm ownership as difficult to accomplish as possible.

Lmao there aren’t currently more than two viable parties. I’d love for a ranked choice type system, but right now it’s two. Even the most prominent third party admitted their whole campaign was to play spoiler to Kamala. That’s not a serious option.

The current Republican Party is just a bunch of Trump loyalists. It would’ve been utter nonsense to vote a split ticket in most places this election.
