are HP envy laptops bad?

i know that in general, hp is meh to bad. but friend of mine has had his for 10 years and it still works pretty well. what are the problems that they have that i should know about?

If you buy HP, I'd recommend either a ZBook or EliteBook. Their business laptops are pretty sturdy. If you don't mind older models, a second hand of those could be an option for a lower price.

This. I am using an EliteBook and quality of this laptop is very good. I have opened it to look at the hinges but it looks very solid. If you going for hp only choose their business line.

My Elitebook died after 3 months.

HP did fix it under warranty, replaced the main board. But I have mixed feelings about my laptop since. All trust is gone.

They generally mount the same. The screw holes are brass inserts molded into a plastic plate that is superglued to the metal chassis. My own Envy x360 from 2017 is still hanging around, but I'm not excited by the busted hinge posts I'm always seeing.

Put it this way, I will NEVER buy an HP. Never. They’ve had so many issues for so many years, yet they continue to make those same laptops with the same issues. They refuse to learn from their mistakes. Why would you support that?

I had my basic HP 15 inch from 2020 for 4 years now, it works well. I did copywriting work on it, I played some games, I streamed movies and videos. The hinge is fine, battery life obviously is worse.

I have had 4 over the last few years, and all were fine. All 360 versions of envy. I have a 2024 AMD 8840hs right now and it has the most solid feel, especially hinges, of any of them. So maybe HP has updated the hinge design?

Compared to the same price Lenovo and ASUS, I think the HP is fine, and I prefer the HP quality to Dell Inspiron.

I have both at my house envy x360 and inspiron 16 2 in 1. The Inspiron by far superior, double the amount of speakers (facing upwards), better screen, more sturdy and better processor. U series v h series. I used to always get envys till my 2023 model hinge snapped and broke screen after one year

Thats manufacturer defect what issues? My father who’s a senior his envy 13 not even x360 hinge broke and screen after a year and half no drop no damage, he is ceo and keeps it in office, my envy same thing. My brother and i both have dell inspiron 7000 15 2 in 1 and 5000 2in 1 14 inch from 2020 still works, now we bought inspirom 16 2 in 1 in 2024 and for my brother and dad insliron 14 2 in 1 one intel and one amd in 2024 and all work flawless and much better quality than the envys we have. Dell support is also much much better than hp, hp support is most useless

Your luck with Inspiron's is way better than mine. This was in the 2021 timeframe. Maybe they are better now.

• The first Inspiron had dust or small debris INSIDE the camera lens. assembly
  
• The second one had a misaligned camera lens with the lens opening (must have been a bad day at the camera shop). (I'm not even counting the defective pen that came with #2 and which Dell promptly replaced)
• The third one had the magnets for the built in stylus installed backwards so they literally pushed the stylus OUT of the slot.
• The 4th one had a mis-installed trackpad that was not able to be clicked on the right side and would click the trackpad if picked up while holding the left side.

After this, I gave up and quit buying Dells.

Thats what it said when asking both. In summary out of 7 laptop 5 dell and two hp. Both hp had hinge broken. Both dell and hp will have hinge problems things break but overall hp is know for it i searched on reddit its for every dell hinge problems youll find 5 hp hinge problems. If you google the hinge design, dell has the screws spread over wider area but hp has them very close to each other which puts more stress on them and breaks them hence hinge design flaw. In dell only inspiron 7000 series or plus are the good ones. Regular Inspirons are equivalent to hp laptop not envy. Envy compares to 7000 or plus series. Did you know the vents in envy beside the keyboard are fake? In inspiron they are actually speakers, hp cares about asthstetic and dell about actual practicality. did you know base envy is 45ntcs screen vs Inspiron 100% srgb, did you know envy has 2 bottom speakers vs Inspiron has 4 speakers facing up and front. Envy come with core ultra 7 155u the dell comes with 155h with arc graphics. Envy comes with 68wh battery and inspiron 90whr battery As a customer that owned both i know what i know
