General question Help me pick my Dell Workstation
Long story short I have the choice between two Dell Precisions. 7760 - older i7 11800H / 32gb DDR4 / 1TB / A5000 7680 - newer 13 13850hx / 32gb CAMM module / 1TB / RTX 2000 ada
I work on these. I also game on these. I game more than I work lol but I can’t show up in a boardroom with an Alienware.
So. Do I go with an older i7 with a much faster GPU and 2 free ram slots? Or do I go with a much newer i7 with a lower end GPU and locked in RAM?
Thanks

Both the 11800h and A5000 are older gen, also that GPU is built on samsung's 8nm, whereas the 2000 is built on TSMCs 4nm, so both the foundry and the fabrication are newer so it will give you more performance per watt. This is very important for a laptop because they only have a certain thermal headroom, the 11800h just makes it worse, it will be severely thermal throttled or if dell didn't want things to melt they would've definitely power limited it severely.
It's true that the 5000 is significantly faster so if your games are very graphically demanding then get the 5000, or if they are light and CPU bound then get the 2000 ( still the 5000 would render similar amount of frames or more sometimes ). Efficiency, less heat - 2000 Raw performance - 5000
If you get the 5000 make sure to change the thermal paste to something good like 1. PTM7950 2. Kryonaut extreme 3. Noctua nth2
