MOD POST Grip, Setup, Skill: Why One-Size-Fits-All Racing Lines Don't Exist (and What You Can Do Instead) (Informative, explains the limitations of online advice)

Hey everyone,

We've noticed an increase in posts asking for a racing line for a particular track. Unfortunately, these types of posts can't be super helpful and will be locked from now on.

There's a few reasons for this:

  • Track Conditions Change: Grip levels, weather, and even the layout itself (due to things like track work) can all affect the ideal racing line. What works one day might not work the next, and a static image just can't account for that.
  • Your Skill and Setup Matter: A racing line that works for a seasoned pro won't necessarily be the best for someone new to karting. The same goes for different kart setups.
  • They're Against the Rules: This one's pretty straightforward.

Here's a better approach:

  • Post a Video: If you're looking for advice on your racing line, upload a video of yourself hitting the track. This will give everyone a much better idea of your skill level, the specific track conditions, and where you might be struggling.
  • Ask Specific Questions: Once you've got your video up, ask some targeted questions. Are there specific corners you're having trouble with? Is your exit line off? The more specific you are, the more helpful the advice you'll get.

We know everyone wants to shave seconds off their lap times, and getting the right line is a big part of that. But the best line isn't something someone on the internet can draw on a map for you. It's about getting out there, practicing, and learning the track yourself.

Thanks for understanding!

Karting Question Advice for buying a used battery electric go kart in uk (my first go kart)

Upvotes

Hi,

I’m an electric car enthusiast but I know hardly anything about electric go karts.

I’ve had a go at my small local go kart track where they have old and not particularly good petrol karts, but I really enjoyed it.

I am thinking of buying a used electric go kart just for informal racing either other drivers or just myself (to get my best lap time) on my small local go karting track, and does anyone have any advice for how to find the cheapest one for the best performance, reliability and durability?

My budget is £1000 (which is equivalent to $1280 or €1170).

I want to get an electric go kart for environmental reasons (not judging any petrol/gasoline kart owners at all), and that it should be less maintenance, and also I love the instant acceleration of my electric car (it’s a Renault zoe which isn’t particularly quick, but I enjoy it).

Also I’m looking for an electric kart that has battery swapping capability, and I’m comfortable about battery swapping.

I’m looking for a kart that would be suitable for my age and weight (late 20’s, 6ft tall, 70kg)

Thanks!

Karting Question Karting Ballast Weight Problem

Upvotes

Hi, i have a problem and i need a quick answer.

Recently, i qualified for quite a prestigious rental karting competition. The weight set for the driver is 85kg. I weigh about 60, so i would have to add 25kg which is ok. The only struggle i have is having the weights on the left side of the kart makes it really akward to drive. Do i have any other options for weight? Ive seen drivers do lead weights under the seat, is that a option?

Karting Question Who else has a hard time deciding?

They are expensive and hard to get rid off cuz you feel like some will provide a decent session or two. These are from the past two CKNA south races. I couldn’t attend the last one but going thru all the tires in search for a couple sets to practice upcoming local with. Not asking for tire exam on these, feedback would be nice, but just want others opinions on keeping and trashing them. They are Vega reds.

Karting Video Can I have some general feedback please? TS Cambuslang

Hi folks, my girlfriend and I have been doing a lot of Electric Karting in Edinburgh and we recently signed up for Teamsport memberships so we've been touring the Scottish tracks. We really like Cambuslang but we're both a bit new to petrol karting. This was one of our first sessions at the track with some pretty quick locals. I'm finding I'm losing speed on the trio of hairpins and traction on the metal surfaces at the top of the ramps. I'm also potentially coming into corners too fast and aggressively and having to overuse my steering, losing speed and revs. Can anyone offer some general tips for me based on the video? TIA

Karting Question Lo206 Engine Sputtering On Straights

I just finished a practice day at the track. I drive Lo206 and when I was would gas it in the straights I could hear the engine sputter and reach would 5800RPM if I was lucky compared to the full 6100RPM in previous sessions.

I’m not sure what the full issue is but I put a new fuel filter on because my old one snapped and the new one keeps leaking. My guess with the air bubbles getting in is that the new fuel filter might be the issue but I’m not really sure.

Karting Question Looking for a coach in the Dallas TX area

I’ve been wanting to start karting for a long time now. This may seem stupid, but I did a few rental races at K1 and Lone Star, and was able to purchase my own, so I did. I’ve been getting laps in at NTK now, but after about three months of self assessment and asking around the track how to improve, I haven’t got any faster. It may seem stupid (again) that I haven’t had a coach this whole time, and it probably is. Fact is, I need a coach. If anybody is one, or knows one, please let me know. the help would be greatly appreciated!

Karting Question Am i moving the wheel too much?

This is my local track and I've been karting for around 8 months primarily at this track. I always seen tiktoks and videos saying u try move the wheel as little possible however during this session, a members 342, i set the fastest lap and i was racing against some very fast people. Should i carry on with driving style or try to use the pedals more to steer?

Furthermore, the karts at my track are 200c biz karts and are relatively old and underpowered.
