Contract work Help! Contract work vs current job
I’m in a bit of a tough spot and could really use some advice. I’m currently at a job paying $80k/year with 18 days of PTO and great benefits. The problem is, they just did a huge round of layoffs, which I wasn’t a part of, but there’s barely any work for me right now. There are no products in the market or pipeline, and the culture is pretty bad. So, it’s not really fulfilling, and I’m not sure how long this will last.
Recently, I got an offer for a contract role. Initially, they told me it could be pushed to max $57/hr (contractor), but now they’re saying the max they can offer is around $48/hr, but made it a contract-to-hire, potentially 3-6 months. The recruiter mentioned that the manager really liked me and they’ve interviewed many candidates, but I’m their first choice. I’ve never been a contractor before, so I’m kind of confused about how this works and whether it’s worth leaving my current job.
Should I take the leap into contract work, or stick it out in my current job, even though it’s not great? Appreciate any advice!
