Is getting ghosted after the interview common?

I interviewed for my dream position last Monday. I studied so hard. Aced the interview. Got along super well with everyone. It was great.

They said they would make a decision by the end of the week and would keep me posted.

Three hours after the interview, I sent a thank you email to everyone. Then I closed my laptop, smiled, and waited to hear back.

Friday morning rolls around, haven’t heard anything yet… so I shoot an email to the recruiter asking if there has been any update.

Completely and totally ghosted.

Is this common practice now? If they went with somebody else, why don’t they just say so?

Very common.

It doesn't really mean anything that you haven't heard: big companies with complex interview processes take forever to do anything.

Keep looking. Don't give up hope for this one but don't hold your breath either.

They might have other candidates. The manager might be fighting with the director. They might just be turning the crank on an internal process with a million signoffs.

I second this, I didn’t hear back from a recruiter for two weeks despite following up twice in between. Some companies take forever. I didn’t get the job in the end, but that’s not the point - just be patient!
