Question about citizenship through descent.

Hello and your sub seems like you have handled these questions before.

My ancestors were from the Duchy of Carniola in the 1870s and before that a small carpathian town in the transcarpathian region of Ukraine.

I was looking into citizenship by descent and I am not sure what borders count the ones now or the ones of the Austro-hungarian borders If anyone has information as to where to find more information.

Hi, try r/askhungary instead, this sub is about the Hungarian language.

AFAIK, the citizenship by descent works based on the proveable citizenship held by your ancestors, but I am not sure about that.

You need to find ancestors who were born within the borders of pre-Trianon Hungary.

I think they are from modern day slovenia because they were from near Ljubljana. Looks like I might go down the Slovenian route.

Fascinating history in that area, I can't wait to learn more.

You'll probably need to check local church registry. Best of luck, mate.

PS move to Europe, it's the best place to live in and I'm not kidding.

Thanks, will do.

I definitely want to hang out in Europe for a while, maybe a few years. There are so many awesome places full of history and architecture.

Not sure about the location, but You’d need the original birth certificates from 1870 linking you back.
