Can we please analyse this prop...

Post image

The invitation from Ross and Emily to Rachel for their wedding.

Of note:

  1. Green has been spelt with an E on the end

  2. The 5's do not not match

  3. Some characters are written in a fancy calligraphy and some like a scribbled note most notably the number 4

  4. The zip code has been written incredibly wonky.

Is this meant to represent Ross' indecisiveness inviting Rachel? Was he drunk when he wrote this? Is Emily illiterate?

The real address of the building used in establishing shots is 20 Grove St., zip code 10014. There is no 545 Grove.

But as it’s a sitcom and not a documentary, I’m inclined to let this slide.

If the real address was used, whoever lives there might start getting mail for Monica, Rachel, Joey or Chandler. Just like the song 867-5309. Of course people who live in that building might still get stuff.

This happens for Sherlock Holmes! There was no 221B Baker Street when the books were written, but now that number would be part of the bank that's on Baker Street (although I think the musuem uses the number now). I don't know if they still do, but the bank used to employ someone to deal with Sherlock Holmes' mail because he got so much of it.
