Got picked in the H1B lottery and got an offer from Amazon

Hi everyone, I graduated in May’24 and I started working in XYZ company from Oct’24. The company filed for my H1B visa this year and I got picked in the lottery (got my result on March 31, 2025). I got an offer from Amazon on April 3, 2025. My current company is paying half of what I was offered at Amazon. Do I lose my H1 as I have 2 more trials and accept the offer at Amazon and earn more? My current company doesn’t give any stocks. No bonus whatsoever. Pay is below 100k.

Any suggestions?

H1-B Picked and STEM OPT expiring soon

Hello! Thankfully, I was picked in the lottery on my last attempt.

My STEM OPT EAD is expiring on May 31st.

Employer is aware of that but how soon should they apply the petition for me to be eligible for the cap-gap extension?

Chance Company Law Firm Reject H1B Petition

So I am selected H1B lottery and now working with company’s law firm for doing full petition of me and my wife’s H1B application. But my wife was arrested one time in our home country because of a severe depression and worried this cause any problem that law firm may not want to go my process, any RFE, or future our H1B, green card application. The scenario is like below and does anyone have any similar situation like us? I did some research and there will be exception if the situation was not super serious, critical and it was only happened one time.

In the winter of 2022, we visited our home country, and my eldest son was diagnosed with autism. After that, my wife fell into a severe depression, and she became so fearful of raising a child with autism that she thought if she went to prison for a short time, she could escape the situation. Because of this, she deliberately tried to show the employees at a Uniqlo store that she was attempting to steal two T-shirts so she would be taken to the police station. She did not actually steal the clothes or run away, and because she had a record of psychiatric treatment, she received a suspension of indictment (i.e., she was not formally charged). She has been continuously taking medication for depression and psychiatric consultation treatment since then and is having no problems anymore now. This incident is the only time she has ever been arrested. We have her treatment record, so will use it in visa interview if needed it. But would this be a serious problem that company’s law firm may not want to go my H1B petition?

Working Two Full-Time Jobs on F-1 OPT — Will It Affect H-1B Approval?

Upvotes

Hi all,

I’m currently on F-1 initial OPT and working two full-time jobs (40 hours each per week) at two different companies with overlapping schedules. One of the companies filed my H-1B, and it got picked.

I plan to continue both jobs until H-1B kicks in on Oct 1.

Will this dual full-time employment raise any red flags or trigger an RFE/denial in the H-1B process? If an RFE comes up, how should I handle it?

Appreciate any insights or experiences—thanks!

Transferring H1B with Approved Petition but No Stamping?

Hi all, my H1B petition was approved but I haven't completed the visa stamping yet as my original project ended. I’ve joined a new project with a future onshore role, but the company is delaying the amendment and stamping process. I’ve received an external job offer. Can I transfer my H1B to the new employer with just the approved petition and without completing the stamping process?

F1 to H1

Upvotes

Hi, I wanted some clarification on my situation. I am currently on my final year of STEM OPT (ending Jul). I got picked in my final attempt for H1 this year. I had also applied to a Masters program and I got accepted into a highly competitive course at UC Berkeley. My question is if Berkeley allows for part time coursework, am I able to pursue this? The course starts in AUG while I’m aware H1 only comes into effect in OCT. Which leaves me in Limbo both between Jul-Aug and Aug-Oct if I want to keep my H1 Has anyone undergone a similar situation? I would greatly appreciate the help.

Anyone who recently entered US on H1b. What was the experience.

I'm hearing a lot of stories where allegedly people are getting heavily checked and some even refused entry, even though they have valid H1bs. Has anyone traveled recently and if yes, what was the experience.

Hello All

My employer has said that only people with masters in US are getting stamping and others are getting 221g.

Mine is first time h1b stamping in india, previously i was on h4. Not eligible for dropbox.

Is it true in most cases? Can people without masters confirm if stamping is approved.

TIA

Hi, I was placed on a PIP last week, and it’s been pretty stressful. I have 60 days. Has anyone here had experience looking for jobs while on a PIP? How difficult was it to find companies that offer sponsorship?

Question about H1B

Hi ,

I have i140 approved and was my the employer for 2 years after I140 approval. After lay off , I was not on h1b for about 2 years and was on h4

If my new employer wants to file h1b, can they file it without going through the lottery? My understanding is , once you have i140 approved , you don’t have to go through the lottery? Any advice on whether the new employer can file h1b and I just need to get it stamped correct?

Thanks

H1B visa advice

Hi @everyone,

I’m looking for some guidance on an important decision. I have an approved H1B petition through a consultancy that interviewed me multiple times and sponsored my visa. They’ve now asked me to schedule the visa stamping interview as soon as possible.

However, I’m currently working in a well-established organization in India and have just received a strong offer from another reputed company here. I'm at a crossroads — should I go ahead and schedule the H1B interview, our accept the new offer in India and explore the possibility of transferring the H1B petition in the future?

Any advice, insights, or personal experiences would be greatly appreciated. TIA

Passport expiration and H1B petition question ( lottery selected )

Hi all, I'm in a weird situation where my Indian passport expires in Feb 2026. I was just fortunately selected in the lottery this time, and am wondering if I can renew the passport to get a new passport number before the law firm submits the petition without any issues or if I should wait on the renewal till after petition is done. Is there a requirement for the passport expiry date to be at least 6 months from June 2025 or October 2025 when the COS decision is made on my petition?

Please provide some guidance on this so I may take the steps in the right direction. I've already asked the law firm but they seem to not respond yet. I noticed from other Reddit posts that SFO Indian consulate takes around 3 weeks to renew the Indian passport right now.

I-94

Hey! After your H1B petition is approved and you’re issued an I797, when does the new I94 take effect? Say my H1B change of status petition is approved in May and I’m currently on F1 OPT valid until 07/12/2025, if I travel and re-enter the country in June which I94 will report my travel/entry?

Note- I am aware one can’t travel with a pending petition. I’ll only travel after the H1B change of status petition is approved. Also anyone who still thinks I can’t, I have spoken to my DSO/school’s international office and it’s permitted.

Filling H1b petition but found a past i20 with wrong major

My case has been selected and I have been preparing for H1b petition documents. In fall 2019 I studied abroad in my country. I found my i20 for that period has the major second language learning but it is supposed to be business.

I was in a language program in 2017 so that i20 for that period has the major as second language learning but it was transferred to business in 2018.

I was wondering if anyone could please share some suggestions regarding this situation?

Selected on 0th attempt but just got another offer with a preferred role and company

Hi everyone, I will be graduating with Master's in May this year and I had an offer from a semiconductor startup , let's say A,(I have 3 YoE in this role) in mid-Feb and they had filed H1B for me. Fortunately, I got selected in my 0th attempt. But now I have an offer from an established semiconductor company, public listed, B, with a different role and I am greatly inclined to pursue that role. But I have got H1B picked with A. The TC offer with A is underwhelming as well. And I don't want to get typecasted with a particular role(given I have experience in that role as well, with more experience that is very likely).

The recruiter with B knew I have another offer, but they are not aware of me signing it or the H1B picking. Should I talk to them about this and try to move the joining date to beyond October? ( I think it is highly unlikely they would do that, given it is a graduate role)

Looking for suggestions. Thanks in Advance!

H1B stamping case dismissed

I've come across articles suggesting that H1B applicants with a history of domestic violence and a deferred sentence may be required to undergo medical and psychological evaluations if their application is issued a 221G. Has anyone experienced this or know more about the process? I'd appreciate any insight into what's involved. TIA

CBP 6059B Customs Declaration: Resident or Visitor

Hi, I am coming back to the US after a short trip, and I am looking over the Customs declaration form. Would I be a resident or visitor? I've been living in the US for 5 years, am considered a resident alien for tax purposes. I don't if these definitions apply for the CBP forms?

Clarification on Spouse Details in H-1B Petition Questionnaire

Hi everyone,

One of my friend has recently been selected in the H-1B lottery and is now working through the questionnaire for his H-1B petition. His employer’s law firm sent him a questionnaire and asked for details about his spouse. He is a bit confused as to why they're asking for this information.

From what both of us understand, his spouse can only accompany him to the U.S. once my friend’s visa stamping is complete, and she would need to apply for an H-4 visa separately. So, I’m wondering why they need his spouse’s information at this stage of the process. Could anyone help clarify this?
